Closure on the Spidey Marriage

Not that I really want it to happen, but if Marvel was THAT desperate for a Gwen thing, there is a Gwen clone wandering around since about 1996 or so that hasn't done much. It'd make more sense than a HOM thing, as horrible as that sounds. I wouldn't like it, though.

Like I put at the top, hopefully not happening. I could deal with the backlash of Peter's emotions, but not a revival of Gwen.

not particularly. Didn't we already have this discussion?:oldrazz: I find him and US Agent are just copy cat's of original and better characters. I like the color scheme better, not particularly fond of red and gold, but otherwise Tony is much better.

I was joking with you:woot:

So who is going to replace JMS on ASM?

I'm starting to think that Dan Slott may indeed be the one replacing him.

As I've said over in the Spider-Man forums, either way it all goes I basically win. I've wanted to see Pete and MJ split for quite a long time now and, this is if it does happen, I'll be a pretty happy man. Marvel has already given me the unmasking that I've wanted with Spider-Man, it's a high possibility that they could give me a Spidey minus MJ.

But, honestly, we'll just have to see what happens in the next issue of Amazing Spider-Man before we go jumping the gun. Because, lets face it, there's a huge 3 to 4 month gap in between the next issue of ASM and One More Day. There's a whole lot of story to go in between.

What exactly is with the hate on them being together?

I don't necessarily have hatred toward it, though some days it seems like that. I just never thought that Peter Parker should have gotten married in the first place. With all the "I might endanger the person I love" stuff we were going through it just never made much sense. And he got married to MJ which I never understood either. It was almost like they said, "Well, we need to do something with Spider-Man. Hey, lets have him get married".

Yeah, but Peter should get some happyness.
His parents were killed, then he is bullied most of his life, then his uncle is killed, then he is sort of forced into the super hero life, then Captain Stacey and Gwen Stacey are killed, I think Aunt May has died a few times, and Peter almost got divorced and thought MJ was dead once already. He should be able to be happy for once.
I don't like how some stories show that since someone is a super hero that it means they grow up to be unahppy, alone, and bitter. Like halping people and saving people leads you to nothing but a wasted life. I can see them doing that with Batman, like in Batman Beyond and other stories, where Bruce ends up very bitter and alone. But I don't think Spider-Man would be like that.

It just seems like another, "Lets see what horrible thing we can put Peter through"

I don't know what they are planning but I hope they don't destroy the marriage, maybe just cement it or something. But if they do split them up, even if they kill her off, they can also change it back later when a different person is running Marvel or a different writer has a great idea.

So if MJ comes out and says that their marriage was never legal, that the ceremony was all an act they can split up without it being a divorce, right?:whatever:

That's an annulment... It's pretty much a Retcon for marriage.

I see what you're saying about him getting some happiness. But those things you've listed, his tragedies throughout his life...well, I've gone through some of the same tragedies. I'm not getting a hot supermodel wife or even a shred of happiness in my life. And I'm not even a superhero, I'm not even a regular hero.

Yeah, it's a comic book and it's not real life. But if people want Peter Parker to continue being the "everyman" than you're going to be getting these types of situations where he's faced with more tragedy because fate isn't going to sit around and go, "Hmmm, well...he's really been through a lot of loss and heartache I think I'll just leave him alone for the rest of his life". It unfortunately does not work that way.

I know someone at Marvel, and I don't know if he's just messing with me but...

I was told they ARE going to kill MJ and bring back Gwen. Via Dr. Strange. How exactly, I don't know.

He was dead on about the Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker's "dad" thing way before that happened. He told me the entire story way before the clone story even happened. So I actually believe this. I hate it, but I believe it.

Seriously. There is no controversy. They've been married 20 years. Dating for longer. Even if it was a stunt, that was 20 YEARS AGO. God, let Spidey be. Is it really necessary to keep ****ing with him just so he can go have coffee with Debra Whitman?

No kidding. MJ has her own fan club, her own book(s) her own comic book. She is as loved as Lois Lane if not more. Marvel is so fricken stupid sometimes.

What's sad is that a part of me doesn't mind as long it retcons Sin Past back to hell.:csad:

Nail on the head.

SpideyInATree explained it best. Read his post.

You do know some people stay married for 50 years and still get divorced, or sometimes people are married for 20,30,40 years and one of them tragically die. If MJ dies well it's real life and thats how the cookie crumbles. Also they havent been married for that long since only about 10-15 years have passed in the MU. You think I wanted my dad to die when I was 15 years old? No I didn't, but it's life and sometimes life isnt fair, even if you have had the hardest life out of anybody on the world, life does not discriminate.

Yes, thats it.:whatever:

I could swear I've seen you make exceptions about change a couple of times. You have even been a little accepting of it in regards to the Mar-Vell thing.

I agree. I said this once, but it is worth repeating; it is incredibly shallow and short sighted if modern Spider-Man writers cannot figure out a way to give Peter any sort of civilian social life without it being with an alternate romantic interest. Peter can't go out with co-workers or friends without trying to pork some girl? Young married people never have fun? Sheesh. I've seen Lois & Clark have more fun. They've taken the Cambellian stereotypes of heroes (that any family life is the death knell for a heroic story) that was used to analyze Greek mythology and lived up to them to extremes.

On the other hand,
Capt. Marvel has been dead about that long, and hasn't had a good selling solo in even longer, yet he has been resurrected via some contrived crap at the most random, bizarre time. Go figure.

Who sees their marriage as a flaw? Why does Marvel make up facts? It seems Joey Q is maybe the only one who's ever seen it as a flaw. They've been married for a while, and I think as of this time everyone just sorta accepts it. It's just as much a part of Peter's life as his job at the Bugle was. I mean seriously, **** Joey Q. He's the the goddam president. Making decisons that will afeect others based on his own personal opinions.
