We can say the same thing about Angelina Jolie playing Mairane Pearl. For respect for the actual person they could of got bi-racial woman. But the producers (including Angelina) thought she was right for the part.
Obviously she was going for the illusion that she was the person. That's the point, she wasn't Angelina playing Mairane, she was supposed to be Mairane.
Now when Keanu played a Hindu, that was a different story.
If the actor can pull off the illusion that they are the character, then fine. I just don't see many Hispanic actors wanting to act and be in makeup to hide the fact that they are Hispanic just to play Superman.

You don't think an hispanic actor would want to play Superman because he would have to wear makeup.
