Comic Con Trailer Description

I'm not a die-hard Thor fan, so I say this as an outsider;

That trailer looks absolutely, epically, mind-blowingly... awful. I cannot believe how bad that looks considering I was excited about the film beforehand.

Now, before you jump in. I'm not saying this just to trash or to troll or to be contrarian or whatever people call it when someone says something negative, I'm saying this because I watched the trailer with 5 other people who were not die-hard Thor fans, but who love comic book movies, and they all thought the movie looked appalling. Like, really really bad.

This is why I'm saying all this:
Does anyone else think that this film will have zero appeal to a movie-going audience outside of its fanbase?

Because, as a MASSIVE fan of comic books and comic book movies (I'm posting on this forum.... go figure), but not a Thor fan, having seen that trailer, I can now say that I have zero interest in that movie AT ALL. It looks like Fantastic Four 2.
I say wait awhile longer. There are several people who went the opposite direction, from not liking what they saw in the pics and loving the Trailer.
To ME being an artist, I love it. I love how they've combined the different Thor's and related Marvel Myth that goes with him. I understand what you're saying protoctista. Still tho it is hard to please everyone all the time lol. Wanting to like it is something I can't MAKE you do. I hope you stick around and see it anyway.

If that's Feore, he could be Ymir, in which case It looks like they mixed the comic version of ymir with the movie alien of the same name:

What ever happened to Joesph Gatt? He was hired late in the game and he never really said what for.

Believe me, I really DO want to like it. And I guess I'll wait a while longer and give it another chance; but it's hard to see how it can come back from that in my estimation. Obviously I'll be binging on humble pie if I turn out to be wrong.

like the above person mentioned. this is just a thrown together for comic-con. it's not the official trailer. most of the film is still in post production for the effects. wait until christmas for the real trailer.
good movies have appeal. look at avatar. people were saying way before it was released that it would be a letdown and not make back it's budget. look how that turned out. a lot of people know of thor....maybe not marvel's version but whats been passed down from legend. i would worry more about the green lantern film. blade is more well known to the general movie going audience then him and blade is only a third tier character in the marvel universe while GL is a top dog at DC. thor will be fine. a healthy domestic gross for it would be around $280-$300m....and it will make that.

OMG OMG OMG absolutely fantastic trailer!
My only complain is the delivery of the "you're an old fool" line
But this is a very minor complain. The trailer is just....
awesome

Like I said Hang around, see if it does change.

I think it would be easier for me to lift Mjolnir from that plinth than to try and pry my jaw from the floor. AMAZING

Very interesting trailer. As always, I'll wait until the finished film but one thing that did catch my eye is Rene Russo. Either I missed this announcement or I just forgot. Either way, it's wonderful to see her in a film again. And she looks gorgeous.

There's some gravitas to this trailer but the look of the costumes look completely 80's fantasy style.

And as always, it's always great to have a little Portman in your film.

YES she's Frigga in Thor.

seeing the trailer... the action looks pretty bland...

but everything else about the movie looks fantastic! from the cast, acting, and the dark tone of it all.

I'm not a big THOR fan either. I've only just started the 2007 arc. My excitement for the project was based solely on Kenneth Branagh's involvement and the really brilliant casting decisions Marvel made.

Also, Chris Hemsworth is attractive, so that was a plus.

I just watched the trailer and the freakin' thing looked awesome! I mean... mind-blowing awesome. There was something retro-looking about the sets and the way the costumes looked, but somehow, it works for me here. I didn't ever get pulled out of the action or the footage itself. I didn't think it was cheesy looking. But I did think it worked perfectly with the whole look and approach Marvel was going for.

I can't wait for it now!

Welcome aboard Suzanne! Any questions let us know, there are quite a few knowledgeable Thor fans here. Glad you like the Trailer!

just wait till they cut a trailer with mjolnir shooting lightning and thor conjuring a storm or opening a portal or flying. wait till they show some magic. right now they just showed the characters and locations. the real trailer will have the effects. the only effects here was the cg asgard and destroyer armor.

*Faints due to the high levels of badassery* :D may seems soo far away :(

How cool does that slo-mo shot of Hemsworth in the rain @3:09 looks awesome. Hell his whole break-in to the complex looks awesome.

Thanks! I think seeing Renee Russo in a movie after so long, looking like she just stepped right out of Major League got my inner nostalgic 80's/90's fangirl squeeing. I had no idea she was in this project.

Branagh's looking at Kirby's Thor for the background, right? I'm really looking for the best/most recommended Thor arcs at the moment. Just finisehd Brubaker's Cap series, so definitely looking for more reading.

But all in all... this just looked epic. F'n epic!!

Kenneth used SEVERAL ideas from several story lines. the more I watch the more I see.
My personal THREE runs are Ages of Thunder (adaptaions of ACTUAL myth), Blood Oath, And the entire Reginning arc up to now.

lol gonna have to try that.

To each their own, but I have no idea how anyone can say the movie looks bad from that trailer. Of course a lot of FX are unfinished and stuff, but the story looks incredible, and I´m by no means a big Thor fanboy. The banishment of a fallen God who has brought war and destruction to his kingdom. forsaken by his father, betrayed by his brother, thrown down to learn humility and prove his worth, the commanding, majestic voice and presence of Anthony Hopkins, the badass Chris Hemsworth, the wonders of Asgard... Seriously I dunno what´s the deal with some people.
