Huh... didn't see that coming. Series order, too? Wow. They must really have something here.

Kinda like Gotham Central but not quite. I'd give it a look.

This has potential but I don't have much faith in network dramas. I would be super psyched about this if HBO or AMC picked this up. I've never seen the Mentalist. Is it any good?

This could be cool, if they try to distinguish the series as something more than a response to Whedon's SHIELD series.

I can't see the tone resembling Agents of SHIELD at all.

If it's just a Gotham-themed procedural like all the other procedurals on TV...not too hyped.

Go read Gotham Central.

Batman's world is far removed from the Avengers world.

That's akin to saying people confuse Tolkien with Martin.

I hope the show lasts.

This is GREAT news....BUT....wouldn't it be more interesting to examine Jim Gordon and the Gotham police force after Batman has arrived in Gotham? We could see the effect that this vigilante has had on their careers and their lives and you wouldn't even have to show Batman. He could be this ominous force that the Police dept. either resents or aspires to. I mean, focusing on a young Jim Gordon's career....how would that really differ from any other cop show without that special element to it?

The biggest bummer about this for me is that Batman hasn't started his career yet, or at least hasn't met Gordon. Kind of limits what they can do with the show or what characters they can use. I think something closer to Gotham Central would work better and you could still use Gordon as a major character. Batman hardly appeared in that but he was still established.

I do kind of hope this is in continuity with Superman/Batman or whatever the **** that movie is going to be titled. If Affleck's Batman on film is more DC Universe-centric, then this could be more Gotham-based than we might see in the films.

Just a hope, but...

Like others have mentioned, a post-Batman GCPD procedural would have made me positively giddy; Batman serving as an overlying presence, rather than a character. I'm intrigued nonetheless though.

The last live action show in the Bat-verse was Birds of Prey, wasn't it?

One thing I think alot of people forget about the creator of The Mentalist...

He also created Rome.

Well there was that rumour from Think Mcfly Think about a gotham police tv series. I remember them also mentioning it tying into Nolan's series. But things can change as that was a while back.

Should be interesting to see who they cast and what direction they go. Especially in terms of villains for the series if it takes place early in Gordon's career. You would hope that the riddler and penguin are an option since they aren't really "out there" villains.

kinda wish it was on AMC or some cable televsion channel

but i like that Fox let The Following push its limits as far as it can go, so i hope the same applies to this show

Eh, sounds like squandered potential. Like almost everyone else in here has said, if this was a Gotham Central-like series, I'd be ecstatic. But a pre-Batman Gotham is simply a massive loss in potential. Dent, Sionis, Maroni, Falcone, Thorne, plus countless villains we know they will try to shoe-horn in like Scarecrow, Riddler, and Mad Hatter will be much better emphasized in a post-Batman world.

Of course, this is nothing short of a response to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The cat is out of the bag. DC Comics, try to at least be grandiose competition, not straggling behind.

I don't really get how this is a response to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. DC has been doing the live action tv thing for years now.

Eh,not impressed with the "fringe shows" craze going on these days.(Agent Carter,SHIELD,etc) What's next? Perry White: One man's rise to the top of the Planet.

Not everything is about Agents of ****ing SHIELD. :o
