This may seem slightly naiive since I have yet to watch any of the clips released on the internet but I've recently seen a Hancock trailer which looks like it has some sort of killer final fight scene with someone getting a truck smashed over them with storms going on and what not.

Now considering we are talking about the Hulk, marvel's heavy weight slugger, are there any concerns that hancock may provide a more epic final confrontation than the long awaited hulk/abomination act.

I already feel that perhaps it may be impossible for the hulk to emulate some raw feats of strength shown by supes in supes returns (lifting a kryptonite city/continent and throwing it into space while having kryptonite lodged inside him) but now I am feeling slihgtly worried that the hulk may be further overshadowed and won't be the fight scene to remember for all time or even over the summer.

What are your views on this?

This thread would probably be more useful after both films have been released but we might as well get the ball rolling on this one.

If you actually watched the Street Fight clip, this thread wouldn't exist.

Well my opening gauntlett does highlight my intent to keep as spoiler free as i can until thursday

Just watch that one clip man, it's only a couple seconds of what was confirmed to be the most kicka$$ part of the movie. And it will give you confidence on what people are saying is the most improved aspect over Ang Lee's movie.

I heard the strange plot for that film and well... Hulk will be easier to digest. And probobly beat the action.

What is the best of all time of all summer or the best of all time is up to each one to decide and not my problem. I just want it to rock. And it looks like it will.

wow....just wow...now we are comparing something we see against something we haven't even seen...:whatever:

unfortunately ultimatefan, the hulk comes with a tag line that isn't so easy to digest

this film early advertising suggested the big pay off was going to be the final fight. When a character known for being the strongest one there is doesn't come across as that way with other slugger movies out, it may not do justice to it's reputation.

I mean ultimately I feel 50% of a fight should pay attention to the motivations and struggles of the characters involved rather than beautiful slugging and direction but taking the context of the film out for repetitive viewing options (as is highlighted for the film's sell), then the actual scale of the carnage is important.

Maybe hancock's marketing has gone more far out to show its fight on a bigger scale in order to entice people to come and watch it while the hulk is being relatively conservative.

Without wanting to spoil myself, i guess only time will tell...

Hancock will be your typical Will Smith snark affair. I'm putting my money on the Hulk because Hancock just doesn't interest me at all. I haven't been interested in any of his movies since Men In Black #1.

Who knows, maybe what was show would be the money shot and the rest will pale in comparison.

I'm just comparing things based on what the tv spots show for both on a fair-by-fair analysis and han*****' final showdown comes across as more epic even though I can't tell who he's up against.

tanker slam>car boxing gloves.

I'm in no way bias, I just don't want hulk's climax to be overshadowed considering the close release dates of the films.

One of the reviews said the final battle in TIH out does the final battle in transformers, so I think it's going to be pretty hard to beat :oldrazz:.

None ot that matters if Hancock ultimately sucks, and all signs point to it. I barely seen any signs of promise from that movie so far, it seems clearly to me like Smith´s new Wild Wild West. And I don´t care for the tag line, I know what my expectations are and what it´s gonna take for it to fullfill them, which I´ll only elaborate on once I seen the movie.

Here is a review from the Hancock screening, Spoilers contained...

As a Sat afternoon rental, it's okay, I suppose. As a July 4 tentpole in the middle of the summer of 2008, I will say that not for one minute did I not wish I was watching Iron Man, TDK, TiH, or Hellboy 2, and several times I actually wished I was watching Superman Returns or Spider-Man 3 instead. And that should tell you a lot.

This is not a movie for superhero fans, or even action fans. It's pretty much a one-note gag: Will Smith, beloved movie star, plays Hancock, super-powered a-hole. So everything's a gag. Hancock foils a robbery while drunk. Hancock hangs in a dive bar and meets a groupie (note to directors: WE GET IT. SUPERPOWERS MEAN SUPER SEX. THANK YOU; PLEASE MOVE ON). Hancock encounters a mouthy pre-teen. Hancock goes into therapy. Hancock plays basketball. Hancock cusses old lady out. D!ck jokes, as$ jokes, and the usual "costumes are stupid/gay" riffs. All way inappropriate for this kind of material, but perfect for audiences who don't really get superheroes.

Am I making myself clear? I caught Bruno rolling his eyes about five minutes in, but that may be due to him bursting a blood vessel from wishing so hard for TiH while we were in line.

Jason Bateman was the best thing about the film; witty and deadpan as usual. Charlize Theron was looking as hot as I've ever seen her. Hancock's takeoffs and landings were pretty cool even though his flight scenes weren't very convincing.

But once you get past the gags, the movie really falls apart under its own internal logic. The entire premise is based on a gigantic plot contrivance that doesn't even work in the context of the film, and by the end (which drags on forever, btw), there are a lot of unresolved common-sense questions left over.

Action is weak, as are the FX. Note that Hancock's powers are flight, super-speed, invulnerability, and super-strength, so there's nothing you haven't seen before. And the movie has no true supervillain. So if it's enough for you in 2008 to see a guy in shorts and Converse tossing cars around, then you may really dig it. That whale he throws in the trailer? It really doesn't get much more action-packed than that. There is a brief battle scene, but it's very small potatoes compared to Transformers, Iron Man, and the stuff we're seeing in the TiH trailer.

Casual audiences will enjoy because it's a Will Smith July 4 film and it has a lot of jokes. For once, though, superhero fans will have other options, so if even one of you cats actually pays to see this and comes back talking about how brilliant a use of the genre is, you will be hunted down and forced to watch it and My Super-Ex Girlfriend until you either come to your senses or your eyeballs de-molecularize Lost Ark style.

[Personal note: the next time I see a PG-13 movie with a sex scene that features two very attractive people who somehow never take their clothes off in private during intercourse, I'm going to call a congressional hearing. It's okay to show stupid sex scenes, but no nudity? Chicken***** editing.]

Ouch. Now, after that kind of response to it by a casual movie fans that went in open minded, this film will not be a threat. Especially after Incredible Hulk hits.

Heh, and how his friend was mad they weren't seeing TIH. Brilliant. I didn't think Hancock would pose much of a threat, anyway. And yes, November Rain needs to see the Street Fight clip soon.

alright, we're going of topic here because people have started discussing the films in general rather than concentrating on their fight scenes

I'm not concerned if the film is good or bad at this moment. Infact if it's bad it's worse for the hulk. If han*****' only redeeming feature is some epic fight at the end, then that's what's going to stick in people's memories since it comes out after.

That's not necessarily true. It also revolves around the smoothness of the plot and its characters. Will Smith's done enough movies that are similar to his role as Han**** or whatever, so we're expecting the same with it. His characters have almost the same personality when it comes to action flicks: Lone fighter, some comedy, blah blah blah.

Ed Norton brings something new with TIH, I think. Whether their action scenes are absolutely amazing or not we won't find out in a couple of weeks.

I'm just saying essentially Hancock is a Parody flick, it's not serious and sounds like it's another attempt at mockery of the Genre. It's like My Super Ex-girlfriend, Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans. But it's fault is it tries to be serious, and thats where audiences turned on it.

Incredible Hulk is the real deal. I've seen many reviews saying the same, damn, thing. "This is the Hulk movie we wanted to see in 2003".

Now, November, watch that one clip we all are recommending, then come back and talk about Hancock tossing a whale if you can remember it.

If you actually watched the Street Fight clip, this thread wouldn't exist.
Precisely. That scene alone gives a good idea of how much destruction will be wrought upon NYC. Not to mention that every review so far has said we get plenty of "Hulk smash."

Yerp and they rave about the final battle, can't wait! :woot:.

I'm talking purely about the quality and epicness of the final fight.

a really good final fight in a bad film stands out more than a good final fight in a good film.

for example, spidey 1's final fight doesn't get much notice these days but everyone remembers the burly brawl since it was the only redeeming feature with reloaded.

If these clips provide as much confidence as you are all assuring me they do, then I'll take your word for it and let the thread die.

Come early july, I may be back to hunt some of you down if they don't deliver relative to some tanker smashing action....

*promises*

;)

To quote Will smith...

"AW, HELL NO!"
