It just occurred to me that in two weeks we begin the final summer season of the `00s. Time flies. So, anyway...the question has to be asked: what was the best summer season?

08 gave us some amazing films in a good decade though it doesnt come close to the years 1980 to 1990 for hit films of all genres, i dont think that time will ever be equaled actually.

2008. Seriously how many summer blockbuster seasons have given us two, as opposed to just one if we're lucky, films (TDK, WALL-E) that many considered amongst the best of the entire year plus a whole host of flawed but generally better than expected fare (IRON MAN, WANTED, MAMMA MIA, TROPIC THUNDER etc). If anything this summer was the first one this decade, for me, that felt like the best 80s/90s blockbusters where there was entertainment in everything.

summer 2008, from what I've heard from spill.com, was like this generation's 1982. Or is it 1981. Just a year with big and good summer movies. Summer 2009 looks..okay. For sure Im looking forward to some of the movies, but it's summer 2006 all over again (lacked any good movies)

Funny enough, I think 2007 was the year with the best Fall movies.

2009 will be pretty mediocre but with a few great gems like Star Trek.

X2, Matrix Reloaded, Finding Nemo, Hulk, 28 Days Later, Terminator 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: CBP, S.W.A.T., and Bad Boys II...**** just got real that summer.

In order of best to worst:

1. 2008 (The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Wall-E, Tropic Thunder...need I continue?)
2. 2003 (X2 and Pirates of the Caribbean)
3. 2007 (Transformers)
4. 2005 (Revenge of the Sith and Batman Begins)
5. 2006 (Pirates 2, X3, Superman Returns...it wasn't a bad summer but it could have been better.)
6. 2002 (Spider-Man and Attack of the Clones made that summer less boring.)
7. 2004 (Spider-Man 2 was the only real standout from that summer.)
8. 2001 (Pearl Harbor, Jurassic Park III, Planet of the Apes...crap, crap, crap. Shrek was the best summer movie that year.)
9. 2000 (Aside from Gladiator and X-Men, there was nothing. It was a lame summer movie season that gave us crap like Nutty Professor 2.)

2002 because that was the first year I ever went to a midnight showing of something. Which was Spider-Man. No other movie had me hyped up so much that I was ever like, I'm gonna go see this **** at 12am.
