Yeah, even Daniel Cerone said NBC seems to be fully behind this show.
They'll be fully behind it right up to the point where they cancel it. (I hope they don't).

How many fall-debut network TV shows, in all of history, had production shut down and planned episodes shelved (remember, NBC ordered back up scripts past the initial 13 before the show even aired), then managed to get renewed?Just because it did doesn't mean cancelled. NBC will hand in its decision in January
You must be a Supernatural fan.
I think NBC knows what it bought and recognises its never going to achieve mass audiences. It's too dark and violent and gory. And it goes out at 10pm, and there is a specific audience that want this sort of show at this time. None of us really knows what NBC's expectations are, so we shouldn't just treat it the same as any other show because few shows are quite like what this one is going for.
I personally think they'll go with a second season and that their expectations are lower than for other shows. If NBC are really behind it then they'll make the second season and then 'hopefully' by word of mouth and decent episodes and reviews the viewers will start to increase more obviously. I feel the show has a lot of potential, I can't think of any other before it that really has this sort of concept going outside of maybe X Files, which dealt with paranormal activity in broader sense but that show was a monster hit none the less.

I'll give you a hint: none. Ever. Only shows that were intended/announced to be a short order in the first place (ala Sleepy Hollow) have returned after not getting a back nine order in the fall.
And please, don't bring up spring shows like Hannibal. The circumstances for spring shows are entirely different and continuing to mention them in this context just shows your lack of knowledge on how TV renewals/cancellations work.
It's interesting how producers of the show don't know this and do not come to the same conclusion. Apparently, people at NBC don't know about their own policy of not renewing the show after cutting several episodes either or they would announce that the show is canceled.
You should call them and tell them how things work. Hell, they'll probably give you a job, which is something we'll all benefit from, as you'll be too busy to come here and annoy people in that case.

NBC so enthusiastic about eps 7-9 of #Constantine they're sending all 3 out to reviewers this week. #Hellblazers #SaveConstantine
From Today's Thanksgiving Parade:

“It’s not dead, at all, it’s solidly in contention for a second season of NBC, which is still supporting it,” he said. “Constantine got caught in the midst of a change that is happening at the networks. It gets big numbers on DVR and online views, but it is sort of a tweener that doesn’t fit the traditional viewing box at the big networks. It’s not State of Affairs, it’s just not that kind of show, but NBC likes it. It’s frustrating what happened because creatively we’ve really started to hit our stride and people are responding to that. If I were a betting man, I would say there’s an excellent chance for a second season.”
I thought this is why you were done with network TV David Goyer!
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...-brothers-mind-tricks-to-the-contrary/333558/Constantine has been canceled. NBC opted to not pick up the back 9 episode order for the rookie drama. In recent memory, every Fall premiere rookie show intended for a full season that was ended after 13 or fewer episodes (in a non WGA strike season) was canceled. Against that reality, the PR Jedi at Warner Brothers have mounted an impressive (most impressive) mind tricks campaign that has maintained the delusions of many of Constantine's desperate fans in their internet echo chamber.
Here's a sample of the mind tricks in the Constantine fan echo chamber:
- "It has the full support of the network!" - Like all shows still on the air, always.
- "It's still in production!" - Canceled rookie shows typically produce their entire 13 episode orders. This season, only Selfie & Manhattan Love Story won't produce 13 episodes.
- "The stars were in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade!" - Show promotion continues until ads are no longer being sold.
TVbytheNumbers are claiming that Constantine is definitely cancelled, despite all reports to the contrary:

They certainly make valid points, but boy will they have egg on their face if NBC go for a last minute renewal.
