Constantine General Discussion Thread - Part 1

If NBC cancel it.....The producers and WB should move it to CW or TNT, if that is not possible (as the show requires bigger budget than Arrow.) they should take it to Netflix.

How other supernatural themed shows are doing much better than Constantine ? I find it odd.

How shows like Supernatural (which I stopped watching after season one) and Grimm are able to attract viewers while Constantine is finding it difficult ?

Supernatural is on CW which requires far less high ratings for its shows then NBC does.

I think Constantine's main problem is that it feels derivative as Supernatural, Sleepy Hollow and a number of other shows in a similar vein have already done this stuff before.

Constantine doesn't go into the unique edgy material of the Hellblazer stories and it doesn't have the quality production values of something like Penny Dreadful or Hannibal which make it stand out from the pack.

While I do think the people behind the show are passionate fans of the source material and the network saw potential in the stories overall it seems like they aimed for something that turned out to be middle of the road.

Which is ironic considering the fact that Constantine first appeared in Vertigo's Hellblazer comics and shows like Supernatural lifted many stories from Hellblazer comics.

Now, just because Supernatural was aired earlier... to some viewers, watching Constantine feels like they have seen it all before.

Not all of it.

Rainbow Snake
Rosacarnis and the hellspawn
The 3rd Place
Actually going to hell to try save a family member's soul (whilst fail). With Sam and Dean, Hell either spits either one back out after three months and neither one can't be arsed about retrieving Adam as if he was Cousin Oliver or Seven

I could go on. If anything, SPN cherrypicked the basics; most of which are John's attire and Garth Ennis's run as far as succubuses, angels, the gun, and the devil goes plus overusing the same demon (*in my Tommy Wiseau voice* Oh Hi, Crowley)sans tricking the blighter into drinking holly water evisioned as whine

i'm saying a big **** no to CW.i think i've seen someone suggest syfy before. if people think the show is too censored/cheesy now....

it'd be better off on netflix or HBO.

I doubt CW would pick up Constantine as it is similar to Supernatural and doesn't have a hot young abercrombie cast of actors.

I don't see Netflix or HBO picking it up as it isn't the kind of critically acclaimed high quality content they have built their reputations on.

Syfy seems like the more likely option.

Another solid option may be BBC America which is partly owned by AMC.

Plus the show's leans more towards Hellblazer than the New 52 (which Arrow and the Flash lean more towards) coupled with Supernatural, which the execs have an inability to let go of they NBC does for all things Dick Wolf.

Then there's Netflix's Defenders deal with Marvel. HBO in a pre-Michael Lombardo athmosphere, it'd be right at home just like Spawn. Sad thing is HBO is under the Time Warner banner as DC and Cinemax is. So much for the corporate synergy that's often boasted.

More than likely. Plus they dont seem to shy away from bloodshed, sex and swearing now compared to the last decade.

BBCAmerica would be a good look. Ouside of Orphan Black and Intruders, they need more shows that aren't repeats of Top Gear, Gordon Ramsey, Star Trek: TNG, Graham Norton, and multuple Doctor Who marathons. God know BBCA is in dire need of a daytime schedule makeover.

Then there's FX. They could have the show air in the summer or the spring after AHS. Or Starz even.

I wouldn't count Syfy out. The Almighty Johnsons is always rated TV-MA and Ascension shows plenty of bareskin (going by the premire alone)

What's the word on the Live+3 numbers?
Other shows get mentions about how that boots the overall numbers.

How has that been for Constantine, most importantly the numbers for the latest episode coming off hiatus?

For the last 8 episodes, they've been fairly consistent and the demos have been hovering between 1.5 and 1.9 . Got 6.2M for the pilot, stayed consistent over 4.5M mark for most of the episodes; the 5th episode earned 5.5M

Looking back at The Darkness Beneath's L+3 numbers. last fridays's episode may see it having 4.7-4.8M in L+3s

i'm still mad that they refuse to pronounce constantine the right way.

small nitpick that i'm sure has been brought up, but i'm bringing it up again.

Saw this in the THR Supergirl announcement:

Supergirl — which still needs an official series order — could give all five of the broadcast networks superhero-themed series on the air next season, with DC properties on four of the five. Fox has Batman story Gotham — which like Supergirl started with a series commitment; NBC has Hellblazer take Constantine, which will end after 13 episodes; CW has already renewed Flash and Arrow; and ABC, via Disney's deal with Marvel, has Agents of SHIELD and bridge series Agent Carter. For its part, Netflix also has four Marvel series and a mini, starting with Daredevil.

Has this been decided? I hope not!

They probably mean that the season will end after 13 episodes.

as a response (if it ends up getting cancelled, which it didn't seem to me what the article implied since it's already known the season ends at 13 eps ) , i point to my avatar.

In its second week in a new, earlier time period, “Constantine” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew week to week by 0.1 of a point or +13% in adult 18-49 rating (0.9 vs. 0.8) and increased +14% in total viewers (3.479 million vs. 3.064 million.

“Constantine” delivered its most-watched episode since Nov. 21 (3.541 million at 10 p.m.).

“Constantine” will add substantial audience via time-shifting, having increased so far this season by an average of +79% in 18-49 rating (from a 0.98 to a 1.75) and more than 1.8 million viewers overall (3.4 million to 5.3 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

That time shifted L+3/7 number has to impress NBC, has to.
Are they able to track how that affects the Demo?

With this show I think it is just best to assume the worst. I expect it to get canceled, but i would surprised and happy if it doesn't.

^^^^
So a fairly large range from modest increase to an almost 80% gain.
I'll split the difference and hope NBC does as well and count that as a solid +

Seems like they're screening Episodes 12 and 13 for College students to bring awareness to the show.
