Constantine General Discussion Thread

I hope they constantly kill off his supporting characters like in the Hellblazer comics and I hope he remains a anti-hero.

The fact Constantine is morally grey at times is part of what makes him interesting. He is one of the most complex and fully fleshed out comic characters ever.

NBC Chairman Comments on the Tone of DC Comics Adaptation Constantine
by Eric Goldman

This past week, NBC ordered a TV pilot for Constantine, a potential ongoing series based on the DC Comics/Vertigo character. At the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, I asked NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt what the approach was – would it mainly tap into the character’s supernatural/horror elements, or work to incorporate more of the DC Comics universe?

Said Greenblatt, “I don’t know the DC comic very well, but there is dark, interesting stuff in it, but it’s also got some witty banter.” David Goyer (Man of Steel) and Daniel Cerone (Dexter, The Mentalist) are executive producing Constantine and Greenblatt added, “It’s a fun tone, although the supernatural stuff is scary.”

If Constantine gets picked up to series, NBC will be the third network with DC Comics-based series on the air, following The CW with Arrow (and likely The Flash and possibly Hourman) and FOX, who have Gotham coming up. All are produced by Warner Bros., but doing crossovers across networks is a rare (though not unprecedented) thing.

I asked Greenblatt if Constantine could ever crossover with those other DC/Warner Bros. shows and he replied, “Cross-network is really hard. It’s hard enough to do it within your network. I think let us see how the pilot goes before we answer that question!”

remaining optomistic I wish fx would have produced this

It applies to either, soooo.... calm your ****.

I haven't read all the thread.... is there any chance of Swamp Thing?

He better be blonde, British, smoking, sarcastic, and wearing a tan trenchcoat. That all is a must. What are the odds he will be a Brit?

They cast so many non-Americans on American TV these days, I don't see why not. We've got Jonny Lee Miller going full Brit on Elementary, so hopefully...

He wouldn't have been a bad choice either. But Ewan McGregor would be fantastic. On the side note I'm hoping for a sequel to Trainspotting sometime too.

Guaranteed this is just NBC's attempt at making another Sleepy Hollow or Elementary. Constantine will have a female sidekick, and they will have quirky cases of the week involving the supernatural. Don't get your expectations up for this.

But it's David Goyer don't you think he would try to be truthful to the source material? This is the guy that gave us TDK trilogy.

This will have to go through studio notes, network notes, producer notes, and probably more before you see it on the screen. They have to hit the four quadrants, and in order to do that you have to sacrifice a lot of what makes Hellblazer so good. If they are able to do as good a job as Bryan Fuller does on Hannibal, it will be an absolute miracle. However, assuming that sticks around, NBC will want a show that goods better advertising money, which will ruin Constantine.

He'll smoke e-cigs. :o

Or be on a nicotine patch.

Hopefully Chas is like he is in the comics and not like the movie version.

Considering those are two of the best shows on television right now, I don't see how that would be all that terrible. The Constantine movie was essentially that with Rachel Weisz.

I hope this show does well, don't get me wrong, I do. I just hope it sticks to the material before it became a DC comic. Cause I want another magical hero to have their own show and include the magical side of the DCU.

I liked the Constantine movie, if it did something like that I don't think it'll be that bad.

What the ****ing kind of nonsense is this? :lmao:

If he looks like Constantine most people will just say its ripping off Supernatural and Castiel....

I'm not sure anything that can be categorized as "most people" know what Supernatural is...

Neil Marshall (The Descent) is set to direct NBC’s drama pilot Constantine, from Warner Bros TV. Based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond. The project was written by Daniel Cerone from a story by him and David S. Goyer. In TV, Marshall recently helmed the opening as well as the third episode of Michael Bay’s Starz pirate drama Black Sails and an episode from the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones.
Off to a GREAT start. I approve.

This guy... I don't think they'd get him if they were watering anything down.
