The Dark Knight Rises Continuity in TDKR

No matter what befalls Gotham...people will always want falafel.

The one in TDK is just after Alfred reads Rachel's letter to Bruce, and then brings it in on a breakfast tray. Bruce is sitting in his bat costume brooding over Rachel's death.

That scene in TDK is one of my favorites. It all comes together so well. The cinematography, the acting, the visuals and the dialogue.

Brilliant but underrated scene. Bale shines.

Hi, new member here. I've always wondered about the continuity of the appearance of Gotham. In the first two films (especially Dark Knight) the City looks very Chicago, and the addiction of significant New York, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles landmarks seems to make Gotham feel radically different. I can't help but wonder if this will cause any problems visually. I know it bugged me when the Monorail was gone and Wayne Enterprises was changed in TDK.

So guys, do you think?

( in TDKR, Kyle says the same thing to Bruce)

eh, not really.

A storm actually happened in BB, I think that's what Batman meant when talking to Gordon. I don't think there is a connection here.

I really don't think Batman was warning Gordon about an actual rainstorm coming. Had to have meant him shaking things up. That's what I think Selina means in TDKR to Bruce.

Only thing I'm wondering is if she knows about Bane taking down the rich people of Gotham and is working with him in that regard.

Yeah I dont think there is a connection either, but I thought it was worth pointing out

:-)

References to Batman Begins in The Dark Knight:

-Scarecrow reappears (first Batman villain to appear in 2 films in single franchise).

-Batman starts out with the same suit he used in previous film (another Batfranchise first).

-Rachel Dawes becomes the first Batman film love interest to return to a follow-up film (albeit a different actor).

-New D.A. in the form of Harvey Dent after D.A. Finch was murdered in Batman Begins.

-Carmine Falcone mentioned being locked in Arkham Asylum.

-Wayne Manor is still burnt down and "it will be nice when [it's] rebuilt".

-We see a direct continuing of the investigation of the The Joker, the villain and threat we learned about at the end of Batman Begins, "I'll look into it".

- Same Batmobile.

- Continuing Jim Gordon's rise through the GCPD.

The Dark Knight Rises will have many ties not only to The Dark Knight but to Batman Begins as well.

- The effect of Harvey Dent's life and death.

- The effect of Batman taking responsibility for Harvey Dent's murder's as Two-face.

- Ra's al Ghul and the League of Shadows.

- Possible inclusion of Talia al Ghul.

And more that we don't know about...

References to Batman Begins in The Dark Knight:

There are quite a bit more than that. There are indirect references to Ra's Al Ghul's ideology ("Criminals aren't complicated, Alfred.") and to the Waynes ("... first legitimate ray of light in Gotham in decades."). Not to mention specific scenes and shots that are homages to scenes and shots in Begins.

Batman Begins
"I never said thank you".

"And you'll never have to".

The Dark Knight
"Thank you".

"You don't have to thank me..."

The scene where Alfred speaks to Bruce after his parents' death in Batman Begins and then when he speaks to him after Rachel's in The Dark Knight.

But in terms of concrete references, yeah, there are plenty.

HappyJack...
Are you sure that your avatar isnt the rumoured sex scene between Bruce Wayne and Catwoman? It sure looks like Bruce is just giving it to her something fierce...

-Carmine Falcone mentioned being locked in Arkham Asylum.
It's weird, I know that line is in there but I never thought about it too much. Now that I think about it, that's awesome. Yeah, Dent says "With Carmine Falcone in Arkham..." That's kind of cool that Dent mentioned Arkham.

This is so strange. I knew about this line, but it never really hit me until now. That's a direct reference to Begins. Really blatant. Why is my mind only now just processing this? The line never really dug in until now.

Lol, happy to let it sink in lol.

I would have personally loved to see Dent in Batman Begins as an A.D.A. or hear about him in a mention, but at least we'll see his life and death play a large part in the final chapter of the trilogy.

And yeah, sometimes, small, direct references to the previous films are awesome to hear...no matter how small...

In BB, Batman tells Gordon :

" The storm is coming "

Mmm....

I read this as: Kyle trained with LoS & perhaps left similar to how Wayne did. Or was she there when Wayne was being trained?

bah..

I the context of the trilogy it will be nice that they decided not to rebuild Manor and Cave to TDK, now it will make the middle film more unique and the return of the manor in TDKR will seem more logical.

It's great they took the chance of making Bruce live in a city penthouse like he did in the 70s in the comics.

With that said i can't wait to see wayne manor and the batcave again. :D

" At nightfall, this city will be mine ? "

Nightfall ..... Knightfall

Easter egg or coincidence ?

So was "two-faced" in Batman Begins during Bruce's birthday party. Still fun coincidences though. Especially in retrospect.

Ra's admitted himself he was on a suicide mission. "My fate lies with the rest of Gotham". He knew there was no way he was getting off that train alive. Hell he smashed the brakes for good measure.

According to IMDb, the quote says "fight", not "fate".

I knew I'd seen it before so I had to check today and lo and behold it's actually there. I don't know if it's been brought up before but during the establishing shot of Wayne Enterprises at the beginning of the movie where Lau is talking to the board you can see the three track monorail system around the building on both sides. Pretty cool small bit of continuity.

Followed by Alfred saying "Very well" when Bruce says nothing and begins to walk away and Bruce calls him back. Both scenes where Bruce is grieving for the loss of someone, too.

That was a neat touch.

which is why the shot of the silver platter in the TDKR trailer strikes me as a bad omen where Alfred is concerned.
