Cop handcuffs teen over sex with daughter

He's a father, he finds out some irk has been up in his daugher and you want him to do some do gooder sit down talk? that's just not the real world man.

It's not about being naive, if he doesn't know for sure anything is going on then what can he do or say? but when he knows for sure he is going to react and not simply brush it off.

I have never once justified what he did. I think it was dumb in modern day USA to try anything like he did as lawsuits are like a sport.

By the above quote is why I am thinking you are defending his actions.

The fathers most likely don't know, I doubt most are "Hey honey, got your condoms with you?" No, It's not something that fathers just accept about their underage daughters, I can assure you.
Many fathers prefer the safe sex talk over the assualting the boyfriend method.

Things must have changed since the 90s.

I dated a girl where the father acted oblivious, and another that both parents flat out told us they knew and that the didn't want grandkids just yet.

He didn't assault him, he cuffed him and scared him.

Correct. The child was not assaulted. I believe the only arguments were really have is the cops choice of "teaching," and the two kids dumbassness.

The posters who are parents will understand the policeman.

The posters who are teenagers will not.

I'm sure there's more to the story than just handcuffs especially since I can only imagine how pissed that cop must have been...cops can be just as bad as gang members where they all stick together and have each other's backs. That may sound a little lame but I cant help but view it like that sometimes.

Surprised you didn't catch some heat for this from the "cops can do no wrong" crowd...

Most fathers prefer the safe sex talk over the false imprisonment of the boyfriend.

Most fathers who aren't cops probably would have smacked him upside the head, they wouldn't give their daughters condom advice.

They're probably waiting for all of the COPS CAN DO NO RIGHT crowd to finish.

I'm a parent and I agree with Lee. I don't have any daughters, but I can certainly understand why that cop did it, although his method was rather misguided. However, I think his superior should just give the cop a suspension, but allow him to keep his job.

Again most fathers don't assult their daughter's boyfriends when they discover sexual conduct.

It is a matter of personal self-restraint.

I think it's better to scrutinize police abuses too much than not at all.

A healthy democracy depends on it.

It depends on how young their daughter is, and it's funny how you mention self restraint, if the underage boy had shown some then the father wouldn't need to do anything.

A healthy democracy depends on it.

It also depends on an intelligent and well informed electorate and yet....

I expect better self-control from a trained police officer than a horny teenager.

What a grand generalization.

Maybe you should read through this thread again....the posters who are parents are saying they understand his actions (but don't necassrrily approve of them)...and the teens are shouting foul the loudest.

I never said a thing about the cops not needing to be scrutinized...I was referencing the posters who always expect and say the worst about them and never give any cops the credit for doing anything right.

Democracy will never be perfect due to the limitations of the common man but I prefer those limitations not be grave enough to doom us all to a relentless police state.
