Cops on stakeout see 12-year-old kid running with a toy gun, and shoot him dead

There is a difference between shooting to stun/ and shooting to kill. The cop in question obviously went for the latter and should be punished for it.

I'm starting to suspect that you are lying about being from a family of cops as any cop knows there is no such thing as shoot to stun especially with an armed suspect. No police academy or agency in the country advocates anything less then two shots to center mass for an armed suspect.

Tennessee v. Garner lays out the policy for police shooting fleeing suspects and they can do so if the suspect is a threat to society (i.e. a suspect fleeing with a gun drawn).

Not when the officer is not sure if the victim has a gun or not. Especially shooting to kill.

I am not cop. I know many cops and there are many in my family. I was once pressured to be a cop but refused as I was aware of the s**t that cops sometime pull.

Did they say why they couldn't show a picture of the gun in question?

Really, unless they give a hell of a good reason, it's definately fodder that this guy tremendously f**ked up and the cops are trying to cover it up.

But, I can't really say until they show that gun.

HE CLEARLY HAD A GUN! IT IS ESTABLISHED IN THE ARTICLE THAT THE OFFICER SAW A GUN. GRANTED, A TOY ONE, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH! ALSO IT IS ALWAYS SHOOT TO KILL! THERE IS NO SUCH THING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AS SHOOT TO STUN! IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THIS YOUR ISSUE IS NOT WITH A "DIRTY COP" BUT POLICE TRAINING!

Like talking to a wall. I feel like I've said this stuff ten times.

My guess is because the investigation is on going and releasing a photograph could taint it.

Here's one. Me and my friend were once eating pizza by the lake and two cops approached us, guns drawn, and accused us of fighting in a nearby alley. My friend having pizza sauce on his mouth, was reported as having a bloody mouth. When I spoke up, the cops claimed that we were lying to them. They grabbed a few empty beer cans that where lying around in the park (that were obviously there for years) and accused us of being drunk too. If it wasn't for my connections we could have been been shot or charged for enjoying a pizza by the lake.

I really doubt the cop would've shot you over empty beer cans. Are you really that paranoid? :whatever:

AND AGAIN! YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCES/PERCEPTIONS DOES NOT REFLECT ON THIS CASE AT ALL! NOR DOES THE VIDEOS YOU ARE POSTING! THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THE EVIDENCE IN THIS CASE AND BASED ON THE EVIDENCE WE HAVE THE COP WAS JUSTIFIED

When I was 14(I am 23 now)I was at the pier in my town standing on the sidewalk on the Fourth Of July. This was before the Fireworks so I was in no ones way. Some cops come up to me and ask me to get off the sidewalk.Knowing it is not smart to talk back to cops I got off the sidewalk and stood in the dirt. They again ask me to get of the sidewalk.I say "Are you serious?" They proceeded to put my arms behind my back with handcuffs attaching them to my ankles. They beat me up badly, and got away with it.What I did by saying "Are you serious?" is considered a threat to them....yeah so I do not care for the police here in my town. It's bad enough our Sheriff beats his wife, and deals drugs.

Are you sure you are a cop?

I never claimed to be. My brother is. My brother-in-law who was a friend of mine was an officer killed in the line of duty. I am very familiar with criminology and police procedure as it is a topic that interests me greatly and I have done much reading on it. If a police officer is forced to draw his gun in practically any training program or agency policy manual in the country they are instructed to shoot two to the chest and one to the head. None to the legs. None to the arms.

...sigh. Are you being sarcastic or are you serious?

My friend once got hospitalized for refusing to drop his backpack when the cops confronted him. Later on he told me he had his mini-telescope in there that would have broken if he had dropped it. It was the last gift his brother gave him before he died and it meant a lot to him.

My Uncle is a cop,and my Great Grandfather was the Police Chief in NYC. I don't hate cops. It's just a sad fact that most these days are crooked.

THEY BEAT AN UNARMED STUDENT TO THE POINT OF HOSPITALIZATION! HE WAS COMING HOME FROM THE ASTRONOMY CLUB, AND TOLD THE COPS EVERYTHING. THEY CONTINUED TO BEAT HIM UNTIL HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS. MATT, HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THOSE COPS SERVING AND PROTECTING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD?

To give another example of my wonderful town;)

I went up to a cop and asked "What does it take to be a cop?" "How would I get into it?"(I was interested at the time to be in the force)

They would not explain..just thought I was a smart ass and went for his taser(When I was 16)

No. Most aren't. A small minority is. They simply get the most publicity.

I am not denying there are corrupt cops. I am simply saying they are a minority and your personal experience/biases/perspectives do not affect this case at hand. I'm not sure if you are stupid Badora or just stubborn.

I'm not sure if you are stupid either, because personal experience/biases/perspectives are affecting your judgment too. If your brother is a cop, and someone you know was killed in the line of duty than it affects you too. What I have been saying all along is that if the cops were on a tighter leash, this s**t wouldn't happen. You like to argue otherwise, and fail to note your biases.

I'd argue that I have a less biased point of view than you, because I have friends in family in the force and I have friends and family affected by bad cops. If anything you are the one being stubborn and stupid.

No, see, you're not debating the evidence. You are not thinking critically. You are simply saying "I saw this on Youtube so cops are teh badz!" where as I am putting aside my biases (and everyone has biases one way or another) and debating the facts. At any rate, you're an idiot so I am done arguing this.

How would a photograph taint the evidence?

Numerous ways. It is an already sensitive case. Public demand/perception could turn the prosecutor into a politican as opposed to a prosecutor and affect the decisions that are made in the investigation.
