Coronavirus and its possible impact on upcoming MCU productions

The recent rise in cases in some US states doesn’t bode well for a cinematic release anytime soon. :csad:

I wrote it also in the BW thread. Marvel Studios won‘t risk it to have absolutely 0 profit in 2020 - BW will be released, wether it’s in theaters or as digital release (not Disney plus)
And they will continue to make 0 profit if they release it in theaters now or on VOD.

I think we're in a situation now where this pandemic is so bad that it's just not practical to reopen all the theaters. Secondly, the numbers keep spiking and we're not breaking the curve.

What we need is a miracle to give us an all clear on the virus or a miracle cure/vaccine. That's what it's going to take at this point.

Seeing as how 2020 has gone so far, there will be an alien invasion before there's a vaccine.

:csad:. I was hoping we would get the episodes that are ready.
If the miniseries are being shot like a movie and not like a TV show with just in time scheduling then it is possible that there is no episodes ready. Just scenes from which episodes are built

nope, if they decide in November, that BW couldn‘t make its theater release, they can release it on Itunes or Amazon and charge 20-25$ for it - with millions to watch, they have a bit of profit in 2020 - I doubt they cause many chain-reaction-delays for other projects again
The only opportunity will be February 2021 - but I doubt it because economywise it‘s important, that the studio has some profit in this year

Good, because other than DC Marvel Studios doesn‘t existed the last 3 months at all...

I'm just waiting for Marvel to move Black Widow in early 2021. And I think Spider-Man would finally move to 2022 if Black Widow gets moved again.

I feel like since we are already halfway way done in 2020, and there's still Zero blockbuster movie that was released in American theaters since Onward. I don't think delaying it to February 2021 is going to be a big deal. I think this movie would actually benefit from it. Disney has yet to release Mulan (which is now dateless). Top Gun already moved to summer 2021.

Even if there's an approved vaccine by October. I feel like the general public would be saving their money for that or waiting to see if the vaccine is 100% safe and working. And besides February is just 6 to 7 months from now.

I guess it depends on what they decide to do with Mulan. There's rumors that they may try to still release it internationally and VOD in the US. Depending on how well or poor it turns out, it may influence their decision on what to do with Black Widow.

When movies like Fast & Furious, Top Gun and Disney's Jungle Cruise are now moved to 2021, I don't see why Disney can't do the same with Mulan and Black Widow. Disney also already banished a couple of films to D+, they would need to keep something for the theaters neXt year. Its not like film productions weren't delayed by Covid and its just the theaters that were shut down.

I think Disney thinks Mulan might well flop whenever it is released due to a surge in anti-China feelings.

Rumours Disney might have to unilaterally give up their Chinese assets - likely if they did the financial consequences will affect every division. That could be the biggest effect of the virus on the long term future of the MCU.
