Apocalypse Costumes of the 80s

I wasn't insulting "your precious X-men" (as Magneto would say). My anachronism comment was a compliment. One of the greatest writers in the English language, William Shakespeare, made good use of anachronism in all of his work.

Beast's Tivo was anachronism. As is Quicksilver's walkman (though Singer did explain that in the Rogue cut).

So maybe next time verbalize your thoughts instead of throwing emojis at people. :dotf:

It's getting rather tiresome verbalizing thought to only have people flat out ignore them.

Well when one acts like their opinion is the only correct one, pardon me when other people call you out on it and have other opinions on the matter. ;)

Remind me one instance this has happened, again? I don't seem to recall a time when I acted like my opinion was fact. :)

The black/grey armor look literally fits in just fine with the 80's Star Wars movies. To say they don't fit the era by being too modern is ridiculous.

I totally agree with you it in no ways looks to modern.

The black/grey armoured costumes seem a little like something from the 1980s (I'm comparing with things from other films in that era like Robocop, Stormtroopers), although much more sleek and fitted and without the giant Dynasty-esque shoulder pads from that decade.

But then again, the X-jet and Cerebro and some other tech has always felt more advanced and anachronistic.

I don't actually think the costumes look too modern because I think it looks like more honed ballistic vests and straps that Hank would have made especially if events are different in the new time. I don't however understand why some of you guys are using things like Starwars and Robocop as examples when one was set "In a galaxy far far away" so whilst the film maker had those things to use it wasn't set in the 80's and the other that featured a futuristic Robocop :P. If it is the point of that in the 80's they had the materials to make costumes out of stuff that looks like these x-men costumes, then thats a bit weird too because it would need a practical use otherwise we would be saying "how is plastic going to stop mutant powers".

I mentioned Star Wars and Robocop as examples because they were made in the 80s (two of the Star Wars movies were) and thus had an 80s aesthetic, at least in parts. Even if they were set in another time or place, the filmmakers and costume designers etc were all living and working in that era, and thus some design elements and visualisations from the era will always creep in somewhere. You can usually tell what decade a film was made in, regardless of when the story is set.

There's a sort of '80s movie' vibe to that image with the black/grey armour. But at the same time, it also looks much more sleek and futuristic than the usual 80s fashions. The 80s had some terrible fashions, so I can forgive them for avoiding a lot of it, lol....

But then again, the X-jet and Cerebro and some other tech has always felt more advanced and anachronistic.

Which is probably why Singer set his original films in "The Near Future" so even if his films were more grounded than other similar films out at that time, he can get away with more advanced anachronistic tech.

There is an "in-between" level between "all black" and the really goofy comic book costume (especially since the X-Men change up their costumes quite a bit in the comics anyway). It doesn't have to be one or the other, and I am a fan of "team outfits."

The FC flight-suits looked good, and the blue & yellow costume that Nagasonic Teenage Warhead is wearing in Deadpool also looks pretty good. So just something more along those lines could work. And the fact that

-Deadpool, Psylocke, Jubilee, and nu-Colossus look like they've been ripped right off of the page.
-nu-Storm and Magneto homage their CB counterparts quite a bit.
-Apocalypse and Angel, while not looking exactly like their CB selves, still embrace the "out there" elements nonetheless.

Makes this all the more apparent.

I am assuming cyclops final outfit look will be a blue and black

if the concept art is anything to go by obviously

As I expected.... the costumes of the new recruits are similar to the costumes of Mystique/Quicksilver.

Yeah, after that picture of Mystique and Quicksilver, I wasn't expecting bright costumes for the others. I think some people are too optimistic to expect 2 sets of costumes. At the most, we could get colourful costumes in a final teamshot, like Magneto in First Class.

I wonder if Jubilee will also get such a costume. I hope she'll keep the yellow coat, just because she likes it.

Singer talking about colorfull costumes...
Yup civil clothes for 80's.
Battle uniforms are black once again :whatever:

Well you have to consider that this film is still connected to the previous films... so I don't really see a huge change when it comes to the costumes, like having those super bright colorful costumes like in the comics. They probably (again) considered what costumes they had in the past. And once again, the villains are the ones who look more comic-accurate.

I wonder if she makes it to the climax to get a battle gear.

I remain confident they will transition to more personalized, colorful costumes by the end of the film.

It would seem kinda odd for them to have black/grey outfits and the horseman to have more colorful outfits

same with cyclops not having a visor while magneto has his helmet which seems like he wouldn't need his helmet so its just there because its part of magneto so i would be shocked if singer decided to not have the visor for this movie, even if singer decided to save it for the next movie after apocalypse

I'm more interested to see how Storm would switch over to Xavier's side and if Psylocke/Angel are gonna join the the X-Men.

But I guess a small teaser for the revised costumes would be exciting even if its just for 1 scene. But I think the battle gears that we are seeing right now lack variety... they all look the same, no different colors, no different details. Even the OT leather costumes had some variety but with this, they all look the same.

Apocalypse Riders should have wear black costumes.
X-Men should wear color costumes.

Hmmm judging from the previous films, the pattern seems to be;

X-Men or the Heroes team wear matching outfits;
The villains don't have uniformity when it comes to their outfits

However, with the detailing of the Horsemen costumes, there's some uniformity but they still look different from one another, not too matching.

I'm not expecting a set of new costumes after these black ones. Cyclops not having a visor doesn't necessarily mean he'll get one with a new costume. He could just get a visor and still wear the same thing lol.

I don't hate the X-Men's costumes, it's just that they only have half of what I wanted to see (black uniforms), with the other half being individualized colours (on the sleeves and torso for instance), specifically for Beast and the students.

Cyclops not having his visor yet just makes sense to me.
