Could Spider-Man 3 being dark mess up the success a little?

I dont see any indication that SM3 is going to be any more dark than the first two Spidey movies, what with the Goblin's beat down of Spider-Man and his ultimate demise, MJ's dysfunctional family in the first movie, and Ock's hospital scene and Harry's alcohol abuse in the second one....

This movie looks like it's going to be more action packed than the previous ones, and i think that will off-set any dark moments that may cause parental concerns....

Even if the film is darker than the previous installments, I dont necessarily think thats a bad thing. And to be honest, it's something that has been somewhat built since Spider-Man 2, which many people found to be a bit more darker than the first Spider-Man movie. If this film turns out to be even darker than Spider-Man 2, I really dont think it will bother the audience as much as it would if the sequel was similar in tone to the first movie.

Spider-Man needs to say "What the Hell?" or something. He does in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Parents should know better than to bring little kids to PG-13 movies, even if it is a comic book hero. When I saw SM1, a mother brought her 4-year-old to his "first movie ever" because he wanted to see Spider-Man. She carried him out crying hysterically when Norman reawakened in the gas chamber.

As adults, we want dark stories, but it can be a lot for little kids to deal with. Even as an adult, I prefer not to watch horror films, or ones that are really disturbing. Escapism is great, gratuitous violence is not, in my eyes. This movie does worry me a little because it seems like it'll be so dark in tone, much more depressing than the second film. The movie is dark; we'll see our hero behaving badly, and from what I understand from the spoilers, this movie will also have a downer ending. Blech. I think a lot of women in the audience (so key to the money the SM movies have made) will be turned off by this story, to be honest.

I want dark scenes. Not the whole movie to be dark.

More dark scenes than the other two had.

In my opinion, that woman in your theater who took her child out is just...Dumb I guess. That is stupid.:down

On that scene in my theater, Norman opened his eyes and these three girls screamed very loud.

some kids can take dark and some kids can't.
when I was watching spidey 1 and spidey is getting the crap kicked out of him by goblin at the end this kid sitting besides me (around 4-6 years) crawled in his dad's lap obviously distrubed that his hero was taking such a beating. goodness knows what he would have done during the hospital scene in spidey 2.

but for me the darker the better. the dark spidey/simbiote/venom story line is one of the darkest in spidey's histroy and has to be shown as such if it is to have any impact and judging by the brief trailer sam has NAILED it.

btw has anyone read the 'what if' storyline where the costume successfully merges with pete and spits him out when it has sucked him dry a whithered old man. one of the most moving spidey stories I have ever read.

I read that what if and while moving it doesnt make sense to me since Brock and Kasady havent gotten turned into old men.

venom is a pretty dark story. what if they did a carnage one? now that would scare little kids.

I agree, I think Sam Raimi as well as the rest of the Spider-Man 3 crew should not hesitate to bring out the true horror that Venom has possessed within his character. They should not change that at all. I have to admit that Carnage would really scare the hell out of kids.

lol that's funny.

It doesn't matter, because kids and adults goes to see the movie about their favorite hero and thats all.

Remember that dark scene, when Anakin was preparing to kill jedi-kids and then remember how much did ROTS.

You have to remember that most parents don't really know the comics, meaning they don't necessarily make the link between Spidey's black suit and a big ugly monster.
