The Movie Blog got a chance to talk to Crank co-writers/co-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine about a possible sequel to the Jason Statham action-drama.

"There will be a sequel to Crank yes. Prepare to Crank again," Taylor told the site. "And you know the 'is it a sequel or prequel' question... IT'S A SEQUEL. We're not selling out and going prequel. We are picking up where the last movie left off."

The first film was released in theaters on September 1, 2006.

left off? He's dead, did a excellect job of going splat at the end

And the money making cash cow rolls in again

I really liked crack just an all out action movie with hardley any story to think about, why the hell would they want to make another one, they are just cashing in as they always do with an idea that worked well

Loved Crank, not sure if a sequel is a good idea, but I'll see it.

As long as the new guy is someone I like or can at least stand.

um...

drama? where the hell was the drama?

awesome. i just saw crank a few days ago, and freaking loved it. it just got going and didn't stop for anything, which is something you don't see a lot in action movies today.

and to those complaining about the story: what's the big deal? it had just as much story as a lot of action movies.

and i was under the impression that he survived at the end. i could have sworn i heard a heartbeat after he touched down.

anyways, loved the movie, it was everything an action movie out to be, cool as hell, and funny in a lot of parts. can't wait for a sequel. i just wonder how they'd do it with statham.

Maybe the girl he was with has a baby and the maybe grows up to look just like Jason and he's constantly cranked up cause of all the energy **** Jason consumed when the baby was conceived?

Exclusive: Crank 2 Details
And Jason Statham will return!

Empire caught up with Crank co-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine recently and they spilled some details about the Crank sequel, set to shoot early next year. Warning: There are spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the first film.

"Crank 2 will pick up exactly where Crank one ends," says Taylor. "It's a true sequel. Jason Statham will return. It's not a prequel, it's not his brother, it's not a dream sequence. He will [scrape himself off the floor]".

As you'll no doubt remember, Crank ended with Jason Statham plummeting from a helicopter clutching the bad guy, since he was already doomed due to the poison that had been injected into his body and would kill him if his heart rate dropped below rutting rabbit levels. This would seem to make it tricky for the character to come back.

"We're finding that a lot of people were thinking, 'Oh, Crank 2 can't be done'," adds Neveldine. "But we came up with an idea, we wrote the script, and after the studio read it they couldn’t believe that we pulled it off. And of course, the best test was giving it to Jason and Jason turned down every other project so he could do this, start this in the spring of next year. He was so excited, he couldn’t believe it".

As are we! For ridiculous, hilarious, literally adrenaline-fuelled antics, Crank was hard to beat. And the directors promise this will go bigger.

"It’s going to be more sexual, more violent – more of everything," laughs Taylor. "We realise with a movie like Crank, you can’t do a sequel and do 60% or 70% of what the original was. You have to go twice as hard. So that’s what we’re going to do. If we’re going to live up to the first one with the sequel – we’re taking it WAY past the point of the first one".

Crank 2 is set to start shooting on April 25, 2008.

wtf? lol
i want to see just how they are going to pull jason off being alive

Wonder if a Speical edition of Crank will be coming out anytime soon, because ive been waiting to get that instead of buying the dvd haha

no!!!!!

I want the transporter 3 as well.

:(
Crank > Transporter 2

Crank was more entertaining than the Transporter series overall. It was just non-stop movement and entertainment. I would welcome another Transporter movie only if they did away with over the top car sequences, they just didnt work(especially in T2).

Transporter 2 would of been better if it got rid of the unbelievable and laughable car stunts, needed to me more in the real. I was hopin for a end fight between stathan and the one bad guy(forgot name),but that was a dud, just like in War(Li v. stathen fight sux'd).

Maybe if we ignore it, it'll go away.

While I feel Crank should be left as a one off movie, because then it just stands on it's own. Rather than trying to become a franchise of some sort, with sequels diluting the awesomeness of the first.

But if they can make a worthy continuation, I'm looking forward to it.

I just realised, my first post is a grammatical nightmare.

Dude, why ignore Crank 2? its ****ing sweet.

I just don't see the appeal in Jason Statham. He's good when he's in an ensemble (Snatch, The Italian Job), but I just haven't liked any of his movies where he's the action hero. I was bored by the Transporter movies and didn't care much for Crank.

Didn't the filmmakers say once (and I could be wrong) that
Chev bouncing off the car and landing hard was the antidote
?

It's not like this movie was a huge hit. It did moderately well I suppose. This movie isn't what I would call a cash cow though.

I just like Crank as a fun and outrageous action movie. It didn't feel like it needed a sequel to me.

I'm not sure how he could've survived that fall. Wouldn't have I dunno ruptured all his internal organs?

Your complaining over that. How about all the energy drinks/drugs he took. Wouldn't he have died of all that to. Stop being so picky the movie isn't supposed to make sense.
