Apocalypse Crowd Reactions to X-Men: Apocalypse (Spoilers)

We were watching for it for a second time (first was free public screening), and had several teenagers giving their commentary in the first 15-20 minutes.

The moment the arrow accidentally went off and killed Erick's family, one of em mouthed off "DEAD!" I had enough, and told them we could all collectively do without their live commentary and to shut the Hell up. Scared them enough I didn't hear a peep for the rest of the movie.

Yeah that happened with civil war, kids can't control the tone of their voice at all and it drove me nuts

Kids and their damn social media, think everyone wants to hear their opinion. Get off my lawn.

I saw it again yesterday and got the same reactions as last week.

I think the crowds are not as loud here as in the US but you can still hear and feel reactions, other than laughter I mean. People don't usually clap or cheer loudly during the movie but there is still come sort of reaction. Oh and people applauded at the end, again, which isn't something I'm used to.

On a side note and slightly off topic, regarding crowd reactions in the US compared to overseas, I saw The Phantom of the Opera in Montreal, London and New York and even though it's a live musical and not a movie, it still gives a good idea on how crowds react differently. In Montreal and London, people did laugh at the few funny parts but quietly and otherwise, didn't make a sound. In New York, not only did people laugh out loud at the every bit that was slightly amusing but they applauded after every song, which is extremely annoying considering that a musical is a story and not just a concert with separate musical numbers. It totally broke the flow.

^it's called having fun. :oldrazz:

Weird how crowds differ between countries.

Here in Belgium, there's only some laughter with funny scenes and maybe a scream with jump scares. These things I don't mind.

I wouldn't stand an audience cheering, shouting stuff or clapping their hands. It seems so obnoxious. I prefer a quiet and concentrated audience (who doesn't use their phones). It's the best way to completely loose yourself in a movie on the big screen.

Same from Belgium and went in the first night (not X-night though) late screening. Room is about half full, people chuckled pretty much at every funny moments mentioned above. It was 2 weeks ago I could hardly remember other reactions.

No clapping in the end and almost everyone waited for the post credit scene. I personally was disappointed at that scene since I don't read comic so if I have not read spoiler beforehand, I would have no idea what that scene was about.

* when the bee slowed down people started clapping and wooing, then when the music kicked in it was full on cheering.

My audience was really confused at the slowed down bee, until they saw Quicksilver and then they got it.

there was only maybe 10 people at the showing I went too, so, there wasn't much of a reaction to go on

which was surprising cause it was a 6:30pm Friday showing (its not like I went to a day time showing it middle of the week) but that theatre is usually pretty dead

I don't know where you live but here it was packed at both showings I went to.

its one of two theater with in a few miles of each other, so maybe the other theater was more packed... but honestly both theaters kinda suck, there are better ones to go to just another 10-15 miles away (those ones are always packed)

only went there cause it was the closes to my work (as I was meeting up with friends right after my shift to go)

Hello!

Sorry for jumping in but actually I'm not replying to this post but as a new comer into the forum, I just want to say hello to you old folks.

Thanks
Hi, welcome to the forums
(thanks for not creating a whole new thread just to say Hello, you'd be surprised how offend people feel the need to do that around here lol)

People enjoyed most of the Nightcrawler and Quicksilver scenes. The explosion rescue got the most laughs of all.

One guy loudly said "Oh no" when Magneto's [BLACKOUT]wife and kid were killed[/BLACKOUT], that was kind of funny.

That's pretty much it.

It's actually kind of fun to listen to other people enjoying a movie as much as you are, laughing and even clapping at certain points (not all the time--maybe once or twice throughout the movie is the norm and that's only for blockbusters opening weekend. After that, the audiences usually aren't as animated).

I remember watching The Avengers opening weekend and when the Hulk smashes Loki into the floor, the audience was laughing so loudly, we couldn't hear the "puny God" line. I was crying, I was laughing so hard.

But the one that tops them all is when they screen Rocky Horror Picture Show. People here dress up in drag, dance with the music, shout/curse at the screen, and throw toilet paper and unheated hot dogs throughout the theater. It sounds awful, but the theater owners know this will happen--it's considered part of the "experience." Do they do that in other countries? Or is it just a US thing?

Yeah, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a good example when audience reaction/participation works. People in Belgium know its legacy and concept, but I'm not sure if it has been performed that way over here.

"Now You See Me" did have real money falling from the sky at random select showings right when that trick happens on screen.

I just like to completely surrender to a movie for 2 hours. It's what I paid for and when people react too much, clap or talk it takes me out of the movie.

I don't want to be a sour puss, but it's kinda sad that people (especially kids) can't shut up or concentrate. You don't have to be loud to enjoy something.

An audible gasp around the theater on that Magneto/Arrow scene.

Another audible gasp when faux-Psylocke sliced Apocalypse's neck.

Tons of cheer when Storm and Cyclops went at it. Also when Jean Grey appeared in Professor X's/Apocalypse's dream and started walking on air.

This was an incredibly fun movie. Everyone was buzzing waiting for the end credits to happen. My whole family loved it more than Civil War.

Most reactions from crowd were from Nightcrawlers reactions to things, and from Professor X's Moira stalking.

Do people really cheer and applause through a film? Is this generally an American thing? Idk, I'm from England and I don't ever recall a time where I've been in a cinema and people have cheered or clapped. The only type of reaction you hear is laughs when a joke is told or whatever.

I can understand people clapping at the end of a film maybe but I think it would be hella annoying if they did it during the movie at some scene. Like people were really cheering during the likes of the phoenix scene or clapping when Wolverine showed up? I would want to tell the to ****!

I remember seeing X2 opening day. The first time Wolverine hit the screen the crowd went crazy.

The crowd that I was in laughed at all comedic parts professor and Moira night crawler quicksilver they cheered when wolvies rampaged at weapon x magneto throwing the metal beam and Phoenix unleashing her powers. There was even a gasp during the post credit scene when the brief case shut.

I was actually shocked so many people during the matinee I went to knew who Essex was. I figured seeing it on opening night it would get a response.

There must be a lot of Mr. Sinister fans in that screening of yours! :p

Well some people knew but there was a girl who shouted "I don't get it" and some guy yelled that it is "sinister!"

Pretty much at my showing.

I was the one that gasped during the Magneto/Arrow scene...lol

I could not believe the Phoenix Raptor thing was happening I had to look at my brother like :chd:

Applause at the end. Rarely happens. Can't remember the last time.

We've been planning to watch it a second time but haven't had a chance to :(

My whole family loved it more than Civil War.

My whole family are Marvel Studios fans but we were underwhelmed by Civil War. Still liked it but the reviews oversold it. We went in with low expectations for X-men and were impressed.

I remember when i see DOFP and the end credit scene finished and some guy pretty loudly said "anyone know who that is?"... no one said anything

Wolverine got the biggest reaction in my theater.
