Infinity War Crowd Reactions

Crowd reaction threads are always so interesting to me... I don't know if it's the part of England I live in, but if anyone claps or makes a noise during a movie, it's seen as a massive faux pas. Like, you better not be making a sound when that Marvel intro pops up. Clapping at the end of the movie is especially weird. I think laughter is the only noise considered acceptable over here and even then, it better not be annoying and over the top lol.

This is why the English are considered uptight...

Yep.

People laugh and gasp but cheering and clapping isn't really the norm.

I have seen some horror movies that have people shouting out funny stuff though :woot:

I don't think it is necessarily people are uptight. I enjoy Marvel movies a lot but I've never felt the urge to cheer or clap for the Marvel Studios logo or give a standing ovation when the movie ends.

So that was by far the most responsive audience I've ever been a part of. I don't even know where to begin because I'm not going to spoil anything, but... wow. See this with a crowd.

There was sniffling, crying in my crowd. When Peter said "Mr. Stark, don't let me go." I lost my composure. The whole theater was crying.

This is probably the most up and down movie I've ever seen as far as the crowd goes. A ton of laughing and everyone having a good time. By the end all I remember is hearing a lot of gasps, people saying "noooo" and sobbing. There were a group of teenage girls a couple of rows in front of me who couldn't be consoled. While I think ending the movie that way took a ton of guts I think it's seriously going to affect repeat viewing. Kids were straight up traumatized.

Biggest responses in my theater:

- The first time Tony armored up.

- When Peter got the Iron Spider armor.

- Captain America's first appearance.

- Black Panther's first appearance.

- Bucky's first appearance a little bit later.

- Thor arriving in Wakanda with Stormbreaker.

- Peter's death.

Thor showing up in Wakanda got the biggest cheer in my theater. There were a lot of laughs that I don't even remember which got the biggest one. Maybe either the Squidward line or Quill and Spidey's Footloose exchange. A lot of "Oh ****"s at Red Skull's cameo. Stunned silence in the final scenes.

I live in a Northern European country where people are stereotypically shy and keep it to themselves and don’t like to bother others, so there were just laughter during the film and quite many people clapped after the post-credit. But that was the first showing in the biggest screen in the city so obviously a lot of them are loyal fans. If I see it again today it’ll probably be silence thoroughly.

I saw it in NJ, and our crowd cheered throughout the whole thing like we were at a rock concert. I think I actually missed a few lines because they were so loud. (I didn't mind, I love it when the crowd is into it)

During the end, the crowd was gasping and there was a lot "What?!?!" reactions, especially when the credits started to roll and people couldn't believe it was over. The girl next to us was bawling when Spider-Man disappeared, and Groot and Black Panther got probably the saddest reactions.

They all cheered for the Captain Marvel tease at the end. And everyone booed at the "Thanos will return", although people were also laughing at all of the booing. :funny:

Saw it tonight in Brooklyn, and it was hilarious when

T'Challa turned to dust, and everyone was like 'BOO!!' and then Falcon: 'ANOTHER brother? They're always killing the brothers!'

And then everyone gasped at the ending and sat quietly waiting for the end credits scene, and then cheered: 'SAM L. !!! Woooo!'

And then he turned to dust and it was: 'Damn! ANOTHER brother???'

The crowd went NUTS when Thor made his grand entrance in "you know where".

The biggest laugh was gotten from Star Lord's reference or a certain religious deity.

Now hat's how you use spoiler tags without even using spoiler tags.

People cheered and clapped when

-Iron man suit up for the first time
-Cap's entrance in scotland
-BP screaming wakanda forever

And almost ALL people in my theater stand, cheer and clap when

Thor, rocket and groot entered wakanda and thor basically just turn into god mode with all the lightning.

God that was frickin amazing

It was really different in an IMAX cinema that I attended in Jakarta, Indonesia. It felt like a music concert and that was the first time I experienced such thing.

Before the movie played, some audiences (more than a dozen), did the Yibambe chant from the Avengers's tv spot. It happened for a couple of minutes before they ended it by screaming Wakanda Forever. They got a lot of appreciation from the other audiences because it really boost our mood before watching the movie.

Then, during the movie, lots of the audiences laughed, clap, and cheered in every special scenes. The energy dropped a lot at the ending, but regained during the post credit scene.

Same in my theater, but probably bigger and better cuz I'm from Texas.:woot:

Not a sound from anyone during the movie apart from appropriate laughter. However there was a LOT of excited chatter when the credits rolled. Definitely got people talking.

They kept clapping with the intros of the major heroes (Iron Man, Cap, visiting Wakanda, Spider-Man).

They really went wild when THOR got to Wakanda

Do you stay in Stockholm? I saw The Dark Knight many years ago in a theater there. I recall I was the only one really celebrating and voicing my reactions.

The crowd at my screening was
shocked by the ending, and not in a good way, I think. The dude next to me said "This ending sucks!" and he left.

I also heard a bunch of people say "No wait, there has to be more! Let's wait for the post-credits scene!", almost as if they were expecting the latter to be some sort of surprise happy ending? It was weird.

The most heart-warming part was when some kids behind me recognized Captain Marvel's symbol and got really excited. That was unexpected.

I don't know if it was just because my crowd was fairly quiet anyway, but everyone was just dead quiet during those great sparse-and-spartan simple end credits.

:) Loved that directorial choice too, just a total lack of the usual (cool, but unfitting for this) animation sequences. Just black screen, simple font, Alan's beautifully-depressing composition playing. Really set a mood, everyone was just dead silent.

It’ll be interesting to see if word of mouth on the ending will impact next weekends box office.

This seems to have been genius from Marvel coz obvious A4 is going to be a lot more uplifting and might give you the same happy feels like the first Avengers movie. Gotta tip your hat to them, they know how to play this game.

Some lady in the back row said loudly "What the ****!" as it went to black.

Exactly what I was wondering leaving the theater. I know this is just my anecdotal experience, but some people seemed legitimately unhappy with the ending.

Saw it here in Aus, had a mix of the casual fans + the fanboys
