CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM: Season 6 discussion thread.

Loved the part when Larry and Leon answered the other's calls and made both situations worse.

I love the way they both lied about it, though I really wanted Larry to do one of his classic stare downs, and then Leon do the same to Larry.

That would've been awesome, Leon flips Larry's staredown.

Thanks guys, that would have been so great I'm now depressed because it didn't happen.

So am I crazy or does anyone else think Larry may have posthumously wrote the exterminator role for his old SNL buddy Chris Farley? The role just seems so suited to his style of humor and the way the actor was directed seems to have been to impersonate Farley. Ontop of that, they even hired a guy who looks like him.

That was Farley's brother.

Ah, makes sense then. Does he act often or was it really some kind of tribute to Chris?

Oh man, poor Larry. Everyone is choosing Cheryl. She is dating a guy with a full head of hair. This is one of the funniest episodes ever ("She used to be AMAZING!" "I remember!", The two fights, the long balls, him telling Lucy he can't have sex...just hillarious) but it was also so sad. I felt so bad for Larry :csad:

I just read that the real Cheryl David and Larry David filed for divorce last summer. Art imitating life?

My dad said there was an article that his real life divorce may be reflected on the show.

BTW, I love what Jeff said about the 'No-Fly Zone' underwear. "A guy walks into a store asking for no-fly underwear because he has a vagina."

It really was a great episode. So many funny lines. Still, I hope (fictional) Larry and Cheryl reconcile. Larry needs Cheryl. She is pretty much the only thing keeping him walking the thin line between eccentric and insane.

Y'know, I rewatched it this morning on TIVO, and this episode alone has earned Larry an Emmy in my eyes. Its actually sort of dramatic, in a weird way. Very well written and acted. All around great

You mean his appearance on Hannah Montana didn't earn him an Emmy?

Anyone think that the graveplot from a few weeks ago will come back?

Anyone think that the graveplot from a few weeks ago will come back?

I think it will. I missed last night, i was watching and hooked on 'The Wicker Man'..

...i'll catch it ONDEMAND.

So what does everyone think? Larry and Cheryl getting back together?

she'll come back to him...

but I was kinda hoping larry would tap lucy

Me too. "I'm not really a cool guy." Classic. She even thought Danson is an *** hole! She's perfect for Larry.

i cant believe they promoted curb your enthusiasm on the disney channel

Larry was there with his two daughters to watch a taping. The producers approached him and the daughters if they wanted to appear in the show. Apparently they do this with a lot of children of celebrities. I guess it gives the adults at home 2 minutes that doesn't want to make them blow out their brains.

As for Larry and Cheryl getting back together...

Larry David's Divorce Mirrored on 'Curb'

By JAKE COYLE – 4 hours ago

NEW YORK (AP) — In the exaggerated mirror to Larry David's life that is "Curb Your Enthusiasm," even the comedian's own divorce is fodder for comedy.

Sunday night's episode of the HBO show was a classic case of art imitating life with the announcement by David's fictional spouse, played by Cheryl Hines, that she was leaving. It was just in June that David and his real-life wife, Laurie David, separated after 14 years of marriage.

The real-life divorce was filed by Laurie David, citing "irreconcilable differences." Their spokesman has called the split "very amicable." On "Curb," the breakup was set off when Cheryl called hysterically from a potentially crashing airplane. Larry told her to "call back in 10 minutes" because he was having their Tivo fixed by a cable guy.

Safe but still rattled, Cheryl returned to declare: "I'm leaving, Larry. I can't do this anymore."

"People ask me all the time, `How do you stay with him?'" she explained. "I always tell them, `There's another side to Larry that you don't see.' And then I just realized today, there's no other side."

Larry argued to no avail that the phone reception was bad and, besides, he was able to save her Tivoed shows like "Top Chef" and "Project Runway." The rest of the episode finds the couple's friends (some of whom are the REAL couple's friends), choosing sides between either Larry or Cheryl.

David has always pursued a realistic brand of comedy that pulls directly from life. He and Jerry Seinfeld created the NBC classic "Seinfeld" one night at a New York grocery, where they decided that their casual banter should be the show — famously referred to as "a show about nothing."

Even that moment was eventually portrayed on "Seinfeld" when Jerry and George (the character based on David, played by Jason Alexander) decide to create a sitcom for NBC.

The origins of "Curb" were similar. While preparing for a comedy special on HBO, David's friend and comedian Jeff Garlin suggested that David have the entire process filmed.

A loosely scripted, naturalistic approach is now the "Curb" signature. Though his character bears his name and much of his life, David has always said it's an exaggeration — who he might be if he had no manners or restraint.

Whether David's divorce would be reflected on "Curb" had been a matter of speculation. In an interview with The Associated Press in early September (after the season wrapped but before it hit the air), David played cagy when asked if his marital woes would seep into the show.

"Can't fire Cheryl," he replied.

Asked if perhaps the fictional couple might feel increased discord, if not collapse, David said: "There's something there, obviously. I wouldn't shy away from dealing with it, if I do another year."

Now David's divorce has made its presence felt, and the following episodes will help determine whether his on-screen marriage still has any chance. A spokesman for HBO said the split would indeed constitute a full arc.

Both Larry and Laurie David, in real life, declined to comment.

LARRY DAVID'S ECO FREAKO EX MAKES A SPLASH WITH PAL

July 22, 2007 -- Here's the pair that celeb-watchers have been buzzing about - a shirtless hunk and the greener-than-thou Hollywood wife of "Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David.

Bart Thorpe, 44, of Martha's Vineyard, and environmental activist Laurie David, 49 - who filed for divorce from her husband on July 13 - appeared inseparable on the Massachusetts island last week, darting down to the dock together several times for trips on Thorpe's 17-foot boat.

Thorpe's friends say he is behaving like he's under her spell.

Laurie David filed divorce papers citing "irreconcilable differences" with the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" TV comic. But there was speculation that her sudden rise to fame from producing the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" had strained the 14-year marriage and caused the split.

Spies have noticed activity at the Davids' sprawling 76-acre compound in the island's Chilmark neighborhood - which they call "Camp David."

"She creeps over at 11 p.m." to her barn where Thorpe is living, said one resident. Thorpe arrived at Camp David in March after moving out of the home he kept with his wife, Julie Flanders-Thorpe, a Chilmark resident told The Post.

Laurie David and Thorpe have been spotted holding hands, and last week were seen taking dawn boat cruises and on an afternoon water-skiing spin. Giggling and laughing, Laurie David slipped her feet into Thorpe's shoes after climbing out of his boat.

Meanwhile, friends say Larry is bunking in the guesthouse of close friends Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, who also summer in Chilmark. He's regularly seen sulking with friends at the Chilmark General Store.

Chilmark residents said it all started when Thorpe and his now-estranged wife began hanging around with the Davids last summer. Thorpe and his father-in-law David Flanders had leased an additional parcel of land to the Davids. At the time, Thorpe was on the Davids' payroll to help develop the property.

The foursome ceased to spend time together when Larry, 59, returned home to Los Angeles at the end of the summer and Laurie stayed on the Vineyard. Residents began noticing burgeoning closeness between Laurie and Thorpe.

"I remember thinking that it was odd that they were together in their swimsuits in the middle of a work day," one resident said.

Throughout the winter, Laurie David made regular trips to the Vineyard to check on building projects, even as the Davids' aggressive building and construction to rearrange their environment upset Chilmark residents, said neighbor Jackie Mendez-Diez.

By March, Thorpe was out of his home and living in the Davids' barn, said another resident who did not want to be named.

"Thorpe's father-in-law probably wants to take a fire ax to him," said the neighbor. "If it was my daughter that he fooled around on in this tiny community and made a jackass of himself, I'd have him committed."

Meanwhile, Thorpe, a Republican, is lately driving a hybrid car.

"Bart is so besotted he doesn't know which end is up," said a Chilmark resident, who did not want to be named. "He thinks Laurie David is the greatest person in the world. He says: 'She's single-handedly saving the planet.' It's like he's another person. It's sad. He had the greatest wife and a wonderful daughter."

Laurie David referred calls to her spokesman, who did not return messages seeking comment. The Thorpes could not be reached.

Vineyard feud escalates

By Carol Beggy & Mark Shanahan, Globe Staff | July 11, 2007

Things are getting ugly between Laurie David and her neighbors on the millionaires' redoubt better known as Martha's Vineyard. David, the global-warming warrior who recently separated from her husband, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" cutup Larry David, is battling abutters upset about her island McMansion. "It's been six years of trophy building, which creates a very large carbon footprint," neighbor Jackie Mendez-Diez told us yesterday. "It's huge hypocrisy. Laurie flies around in her private plane telling people what kind of car to drive, and she doesn't even know where the wetlands are on her own property."

Mendez-Diez said she confronted David two weeks ago, and soon after was served with a no-trespass order by Chilmark police. Laurie, who is credited as a producer of Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," has made her name advocating for the environment. Still, she and Larry were ordered to make changes to their Martha's Vineyard manse after doing some of the work without town approval. "Personalities aside, there's been an incredible amount of land disturbance and development, and there's been very little public scrutiny," says Ian Fein, a reporter at the Vineyard Gazette.

"They've taken an area that was largely undeveloped and turned it into 'Camp David,' as they call it." Even more interesting, since her separation, Laurie has been seen around town with a prominent island contractor -- one who worked on her house, no less. What gives? David's publicist, Heather Lylis, had no comment yesterday.
Hypocrites
Is Homewrecker Laurie David A Secret "Carbon Sasquatch"?

Inconvenient Truth-teller Laurie David busted up her marriage to intermittently hilarious Jew Larry David to be with a married Republican contractor named Bart Thorpe, the NY Post reported Sunday, confirming weeks of rumors and including damning details like "giggling and laughing, Laurie David slipped her feet into Thorpe's shoes after climbing out of his boat." S(c)andalous! But according to a commenter on green gossip blog Ecorazzi (yes really), there's a bit more to the story.

When the Davids' divorce was made public on June 27th, commenter and "Camp David" neighbor Jackie Mendez-Diez (who also recently opened up about her views on Laurie's carbon footprint to the Boston Globe) had this to say:

Actually, Laurie David has been creating one HUGE carbon footprint here on Martha's Vineyard for the last 6 years. Her disgusting and ostentatious trophy building has been virtually ceaseless for about 6 years now. The trucks and pollution stop only when Mrs. Carbon Sasquatch is here for her summer vacation, making herself the center of everyone's attention.

And I'd say the fact that I saw Laurie and her hottie but dumb building contractor, Bart Thorpe, holding hands while walking on a secluded dock to a boat yesterday, has a lot more to do with her marriage breaking up than the scratchy toilet paper she's forced on her family. I've also seen Bart bicycling in front of my house with a little girl he kept calling, Romy [Laurie's daughter is named Romy]. Bart, coincidentally, left his wife recently, too.

I met Laurie David 6 years ago. I didn't like her then. I don't like her now. She is the prime example of a spoiled, selfish, rich girl who says, "do what I say, not what I do". She is a narcissist and a hypocrite to the nth degree.

Man. Other than the fact that she thinks posting nasty blog comments about her neighbors is an appropriate venue for dispute-settlement, we're kind of liking this Jackie Mendez-Diez! "Scratchy toilet paper." Heh. Seriously, life is too short for that stuff.

So who knows, what will happen.

Remember how George was when he was dating? Plus the season where Larry tried to have sex for one time only? I'd love to see a single LD get a lady to try and top Lewis' always good looking younger woman. But I love Cheryl Hines and hate to see her go. I'm sure she (the character) would make a few appearences, she's friends with everyone on the show. It would make for awkward television. :woot:

Maybe LD's new flame will be worked into the show.

Wow, those articles make Laurie David sound like a *****. Poor Larry :csad:

At anyrate, I hope Cheryl and Larry reconcile on the show. After all, this is allegedly the final season (though HBO certainly has not advertised it as such, which makes me wonder) they need to give us some kind of closure. There are what, 2 episodes left?

Also, apparently this was just a coincidence being as shooting on this season ended in April (well before the divorce) which means Larry probably wrote it a good year prior to the actual divorce.
