Cant say that I am happy that the last adult on this show has been killed off. But hopefully this starts the beginning of the end for Klaus. Everyone has lost so much because of him it is time that they start planning some paybacks.

Not surprised that Rebekah will be brought back but lord...this better be the last time she gets staked and put down to rest. It is time for them to change things up with her.

And I wish they had made Haleys whole betrayl better. I just dont think that her sacraficing so many people just to get some news on her parents (who are dead) worth all that she has just thrown away.

Caroline's mom.

And apparently, Bonnie's dad is gonna be the new mayor.

Great episode, I really wanna see how Tyler reacts to his mother's death.
From the preview I'm guessing he will be teaming up with Rebekah to try and take down Klaus.

apparently rebekah will be going after stefan before klaus.

Agreed. It makes it look like she's a homicidal maniac, allowing all those people to be killed for nothing...

Did Hayley just completely screw Shane's plan over? He's been so adamant about there being 12 hybrids needed for his plan, but then she shifted the focus to Klaus, seemingly arbitrarily. I don't remember hearing Shane ever say anything about Klaus except that his hybrids should be unsired. I could've understood it if Hayley was worried that Klaus would've killed at least some of them if they opposed him, but after watching the episode 3 times I still don't get why Hayley led them ALL to be slaughtered in exchange for Klaus.

Shane needed 12 DEAD hybrids for his plan. As mentioned in a previous ep, the deaths of 12 individuals can be harnessed by a witch to tap into dark magic. Shane and Haley set up the hybrids to be slaughtered by Klaus from the beginning. That's why she didn't want Tyler to be one of the 12, because she was starting to get the feelings for him, and later warned him to stay away. As to what the endgame is for their deaths, we still don't know what Shane wants.

huh, ok, that makes some sense, but I thought Shane would've or should've had some other plan in place to sacrifice the hybrids. It seemed pretty reckless to me that they were sacrificed now when Shane doesn't yet seem to have all the other pieces of his plan in place yet. And what if they'd all decided to go into hiding once freed? Was Shane willing to wait God knows how long until the 12 hybrids were finally killed? Then again, how long has it been since the council members were blown up?

They were killed at that point because the Hybrids were planning on taking Klaus down and some were likely to have been killed in the process; which didn't fit in Shane's plans. Presumably, there must be a spell or condition in place in order for the deaths to 'count' as sacrifice and that not every random death in the world contributes towards the sacrifice counter.

Rebekah's gameplan regarding the cure kinda matches my theory for what might spin Klaus off into his own series.

I make no apologies for being a TVD apologist. I always look to see the best in every episode from any angle. This lamely soap-opera episode... not too much to see. Rebekah finally comes back and does what? Not go on a killing spree, not set the Salvatore house on fire, but punks them like a high school twit even after she got the info on the cure. Real mature, lady

I'm not happy that it took (the embarrassingly inconsistent) compulsion to bring the truth out. I'm not happy that they wouldn't put it off until a much more clever, poignant, and organic method could be planned. I'm really f**king upset that Stefan would conveniently ignore all the self-righteous bullcrap he's been spewing about holding on to his emotions, good or bad. You weak sonova*****, hurt or not, he lost alot of my respect last night.

I don't know I liked this past episode because we just got everything out there and we can focus on story now with the soap opera drama not being there as much.

Whenever Elena/Damon pop up together, the only thing I can think of is how Elena probably would be perfectly ok if he killed Jeremy and just pretend it never happened.

In all her pining over him, she's apparently forgotten that Damon snapped her brother's neck not too long ago for no other reason than her turning him down.

I kinda wonder what her reaction would be if the opposite happened. Damon wants Jeremy to grow his mark? Alright. Hope he's willing to die for it.... but who am I kidding? This show will never kill a member of the love triangle.

I am really hoping that after the sire bond is broken, that Elena and Stefan does not get back together. ENough with it I say.

i don't see them getting back together this season even if they break the sire bond. she's in love with damon and breaking the sire bond won't change that.

i wonder if the whole cure thing will conclude during february sweeps and the rest of the season will be focused on silas.

Based on TVD's sense of pacing, I think that's definitely a possibility. Regardless of how the show often gets mired in the main love triangle (which for some viewers, would actually be seen as a plus), the show doesn't waste time and always keeps the plot moving.

I still think [blackout]Klaus possibly being cured[/blackout] will be the point where The Originals spinoff comes into play.

Holy ****! Amazing episode tonight.

This is the version of Bonnie I've been waiting to see.

I can't stand Bonnie's parents. I'm sorry, but you just don't get to be selective in when you're a parent and when you're not.

And thank god that whiny ***** Kol is done too. Never was a fan of him. And yes, he brought it on himself by trying to kill them. Did him and Klaus just expect them to not try and find a way to protect themselves?

So... the two 'spare' siblings are now dead just prior to the development of the series meant to feature the Original siblings.

Something tells me it's because the TVD writers weren't keen on developing Kol either and wanted an excuse to get him out of the way as well. That, or a future plot line for the spin-off will be something along the lines of or involve reviving Original vampires.

They probably want as few originals running around so the ones left are more special. But you would think that this would cause a huge uproar in the Vamp community since you have another line of vampires dying and their population slowly dwindling.

Yeah... basically, the Mystic Falls gang have twice-now committed genocide. :woot:

Small town my ass.

P.S.: I'd almost love to see another show about other vampires - elsewhere unrelated to anyone on the show - living in fear, thinking there is a vampire plague on the loose after several of their kin randomly started spontaneously dying.

much better outing than last week, mainly for one reason: Team Gilbert wins on their own! Though Dark Bonnie is only slightly more tolerable than vanilla Bonnie, which only means I don't have to mute her when onscreen.

Still though I don't quite understand the narrative from last episode to this. What was the point of removing Damon from play? For that matter, didn't the gang used to drink vervain regularly just so that compulsion thing wouldn't work on them? When did they stop? WHY did they stop? That was forgotten way too easily.
