The Amazing Spider-Man Daefoe slams TASM

Maybe Raimi saw how the quips could've been interpreted as cruel by the audience and just didnt use them

That might be possible. Raimi think that Spider-man in an elevator talking about his suit to a man forever is funny. It's possible he thought that Spider-man telling jokes to super-villains that are about to kill him could be cruel?

Didn't spidey give some quips to Dock Ock? Don't remember well though

They made the mistake of using different takes in the extended cut though.

There are some, same with Green Goblin, it's not wall to wall though. There are also some small "thought bubble" moments, like "Hate those things" from SM3 when he's dodging the Goblin blades, a moment or two from the train sequence in SM2.

Painfully so. It could have worked with a line or two, but this is Raimi so the timing in comedy is just screwed. If you think you have a joke you just stretch it to no end because in comedy more is more.

That's kinda the point, Spider-man gave no quips.

Bruce Campbell might have a 5 minute scene in every movie with some character and subpar comedy routine that are completely unrelated to the story and drag the main plot. But hey, Spider-man giving quips, that's a no-no.

Yeah Raimi really should have made Spidey give more quips, the few ones he gave weren't so mad, and in the bank i do think he made some, i was even finding it strange considering Peter knew how Octavius became like that.

About the elevator scene, i don't remember it really being that dragged, and Bruce Campbell, well i didn't really find his comedy scenes subpar, i actually enjoyed them a lot.

The awkwardness of the elevator scene is what makes it great.

First movie he's the wrestling announcer that gives Peter his name, second movie he "defeats" Parker, in a perfect example of that ol' Parker luck. I'd say those two were hardly unrelated to the film.

The third movie was Raimi just goofing off and having some fun, God forbid a director is aloud to do that.

Not when it royally screws up the plot, characterizations, and bastardizes an iconic villain, no he's not. Also, undermining the entire origin of the character for no good reason.

I meant the Bruce Campbell cameo.

Considering what we know now, it's doubtful he was having much fun, outside of a handful of moments.

I actually liked the elevator scene from the original cut. I thought it was awkward and charming. The take they used for SM 2.1 was cringeworthy and I'm glad that didn't make the original version.

I've always been a Bruce Campbell fan from his Evil Dead movies to his Adventures of Brisco County Jr. His cameos in SM1 and SM2 were fine. SM3 is another story. The problem I have, is that scene is supposed to be a romantic/serious moment for the relationship of MJ and Peter and instead the scene is completely stolen by the Maitre D. That's just bad writing imo.

I didn't know there were two different ones.

Two different versions of that elevator scene? Yes, there are. According to the commentary by Raimi, they filmed multiple takes of that scene using diff sets of dialogue. The one that made the original cut, according to the commentary made by Arad, was the first take.

For your pleasure, sir.

"Here's your change!" That was the only quip in SM2 and SM3. No one is saying that there wasn't anything funny in the trilogy, just that there wasn't a satisfactory amount of quips. Spider-Man is known for them, it's why makes him tan out amongst all the other heroes.

Cool, thanks. I never bought the 2.1 dvd. I think they made the right call.

What is considered satisfactory? Because as far as I remember there were only two really funny moments with Spider-Man in ASM, it's when he does the cliched "I don't want to hurt you," as Lizard throwing him around like a rag doll, and Stan Lee's cameo. But neither are quips.

Everything else is just painfully unfunny or unnecessarily cruel.

I only watched some minutes of 2.1, i remember a bigger version of the birthday scene where Harry start talking about him and Peter as brothers and all that, i think in this case i prefer the original version.

The scene was a mix of both, it was also creative in the way Maitre D was used, then everything just made a turn to the worst.

There are really only things I really like with that cut; the added beats to the Doc Ock/Spider-Man train fight, and this small quiet moment where Peter lying in bed in his costume, and flips on his police scanner.

The alternate elevator scene in 2.1 is the only thing that bothered me about the cut. I like all the other extra beats, but that change was unnecessary.

There was a satisfactory amount of quips in TASM (and in SM1). Off the top of my head I present them to you!
TASM quips:
"You really think I'm a cop, in a skintight red and blue suit!?"
"Crotch!"
*that bit where he shoots his web at the guy's dick*
"Hey I'm swinging here!"
"Whoop! Incoming!"
"You don't wanna talk? There you go!"
Somebody's been a baaaad Lizard!"

The carjacker stuff felt the most un-Spider-Man like, and frankly unnecessarily cruel. He was damn near sociopathic.

"Shut it down,Ock..." might be considered a quip, but yeah,2 in general has the least.(which is another reason it's my least favorite of the 3)

In fairness, when Spidey was facing Ock the first time,Aunt May's life was in danger. The 2nd time,he was trying to find out what he did to MJ,and the 3rd time.....well,there wasn't much of a fight(just the anti-climax of Ock changing his mind.) so I can see where the story didn't lend itself to a lot of quipping.
