Ant-Man Dammit, Janet! The official Wasp thread

She was also in The Office for a couple of seasons.

I can go with Rashida, but i would prefer the amazing Alison Brie.
She was a contender for the role of Sharon Carter in the Winter Soldier, so, she is down to be in a superhero movie.

I hope there's more depth to this character than I've seen. Not a comic reader, but I've seen some of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Admittedly a kid's show but all Wasp was was an optimistic cheerleader whose powers did jack-**** to any villains at any point. It was a pretty lame character in my opinion.

it was a cartoon aimed squarely at children. it's not anyone on the show was fleshed out, all that well. i'd stick to the comic book portrayal. :yay:

Totally, I know you're right.

Really? I really liked Jan's portrayal in EMH. It's OK for women to be portrayed as bubbly optimistic types. The problem though is that that has typically been shorthand for the "dumb chick" stereotype in film and TV. Many women are bubbly optimistic types AND smart AND strong, etc. Nothing inherently wrong with said character trait.

but can you think of any live-action character with those qualities that wasn't hated by the audience?

Just off the top of my head, the Legally Blonde films. In fact, any movie with Reese Witherspoon, for the most part.

Besides, I didn't find her to be particularly "dumb" on EMH anyway. She wasn't a super genius, but she wasn't stupid. I really liked her because she was the heart/conscience of the team. She took being an Avenger more seriously than any of the others and was always trying to keep things together/play peace maker when all the others were too busy having pissing contests or being at each others throats. She was also usually the first to jump into battle, despite the fact that she wasn't as powerful as many of the others. I just really enjoyed that. Plus, she was just fun. Her powers WERE portrayed inconsistently though. During the Graviton fight, she was able to cut a huge shipping container in half with one shot and she buried Abomination in an Avalanche. However, at other times her power seemed little more that bee stings, it was inconsistent.

Oh, completely agreed. That's what I liked about A:EMH's portrayal of Wasp. The problem is that Hollywood mostly sees those character traits as synonymous with "dumb". Give me a Wasp in Ant-Man (and beyond) that's similar, personality-wise, to the A:EMH Wasp, without being a moron, and I'll be really happy. Basically, give us the bubbly without the bubblehead!

Trillian, most of the time. Until she found out Earth was destroyed. And even then...
Tricia McMillian is the prototype of what Wasp could be. Optimistic, light-hearted, funny, but extremely smart and confident at the same time

i've only liked her in one movie; 'Election.' and, personally, i might have to boycott any Ant-Man movie with a reese witherspoon clone in it. :woot:

Janet is bubbly and outgoing but she has depth. Janet is very determined, independent minded, caring and courageous.

I hope Rashida Jones is still up for Wasp because Paul Rudd confirmed recently that he is not Ant Man

Maybe its just because I want to see her in a Marvel movie universe film, or because I like her,
but I would like to see Rosario Dawson as Janet:

Interesting choice to say the least. Being a part of the Marvel Universe would give her a shot at being in a big huge blockbuster franchise, something that she does not have on her resume. It would give the MCU some more diversity. I've honestly never thought of her as Janet.

But Rashida Jones is the top choice because of her history with Rudd.

if they ever do a Black Panther movie, they really need to put sex panther somewhere into the movie; maybe sitting on T'challa's royal nightstand.

i'd be cool with Rosario but my top choice for Jan is still Rashida Jones. i feel as if she'd be more believable as someone into fashion (since i know that she has a fashion line).

Rashida Jones also kills two birds with one stone (a black female Avenger) if she joins the Avengers in the third movie. Of course, Rosario would do the same.

Right now, Janet is the only shot at a Black woman in the movie MCU, although she is likely to be played by someone who is half black (Rashida) or mixed (Rosario). If they go the Black woman route with Janet, it'll be someone who is mixed or light skinned.

Not saying she is my only choice, but these could be shots of Fashion Designer Janet Van Dyne. But I could also really see the movies going the Ultimate rout.
Janet being the daughter of the rich Van Dyne, maybe having interest in fashion, but being a secret agent.

But like everyone, I would be happy with both her and Jones. They are both great.
I just would like Dawson to be in a Marvel film at some point. Since I hear she is a superhero comic reader.

and found this on google, heh.
Janet Van Dyne with SHIELD agent Sam Wilson.

I think Rosario Dawson may have been at one point considered for Gamora in GOTG.
