Ant-Man Dammit, Janet! The official Wasp thread

When Lilly said she didn't read the script, it's likely that she meant the current revised script and not the original Edgar Wright Script.

Is it possible the MCU version of the Wasp could be someone else? The Asian woman in Age of Ultron maybe? I say this because Whedon was talking about including the Wasp in the first Avengers movie, which was written AFTER Ant-Man, so at the time Marvel likely had some idea what was going on with the movie and the status of the Ant-Man franchise.

If they ok'ed Whedon's decision to introduce Jan in the Avengers, that says to me Wasp was never gonna have a big part in Ant-Man, if at all. Maybe Whedon will get his wish this time?

I have my doubts that Claudia Kim is any important character.

She's important enough that she's said she can't name her character because it'd be a spoiler. If she were really just some generic supporting character like Soo Yin I doubt anyone would care.

Maybe the Asian actress's character may be a generic character who's tied specifically to a storyline AoU is using that they haven't released yet.

With that said, I'll repeat, I'm happy Lilly isn't Janet. She'll be good as hope, maybe even as Wasp II, and they'll have an older actress portray Janet Van Dyne as Wasp, maybe even have her get transported into a wormhole thing so that they could use her in another movie.

Not sure I like the unnecessary name change - what's wrong with Janet?

I think this is going to be the first Marvel movie that really is just 'based on' in the loosest of senses. It seems like a mash up of everything Ant-Man, which is ok given it's a separate universe.

To clarify the situation, Hope Van Dyne is an actual character from the comics. Particularly, the MC2 universe:

She's the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, takes up the Wasp mantle in her memory.

So as some have suggested, Janet (whom may be dead in the modern day) will likely operate in the 70s with Hank, while their daughter acts as the new Wasp alongside Scott.

That means we could get Janet as the Cold War Wasp & Hope as the Modern Day Wasp.

Yeah, this is to allow Wasp to continue having adventures without removing the Hank/Janet relationship from existence. There's still room for Hank and Janet in the past as heroes (I'm still hopeful for a prequel movie, TV episode, or one-shot with young Hank and Janet).

My guess is that Janet has passed away in this present day universe, but that's blatant speculation on my part.

Probably would quantify why no one has been cast as her... yet.

Well, no one announced, to be technically accurate based on what we know.

To all the people who are b*tching in regards to this film and all the CHANGES, here's a little note for all of you:

Edgar Wright on Ant-Man:

One of the things I don't want to do is get into the whole Marvel history...

That character isn't one of [Marvel Studios'] biggest properties.

We [Wright and Feige] discussed whether he would be in The Avengers. The thing is, the script that I’ve written [...] the chronology of it or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what they do.

Seems a bit off topic to me .

Isn't this thread simply for the Wasp/whoever the hell Hope Van Dyne will end up being?

I'm thinking (at least hoping) he posted it in the wrong thread. He posted it in a more appropriate thread one minute later, so that might have been the intended thread.

Interesting to note that the comics version of Hope is a villain (apparently). That probably doesn't mean much. (Then again, this is the film that is making Yellowjacket a separate character from Hank).

Yeah, but Yellowjacket, could still be based on Stolen Pym designs .

I posted that here too for the reason that most of the people's first reaction regarding this Hope Van Dyne character plot are "Where the [frick] is Janet?!, that's not Hank's Wife, blah blah blah..."

Remember, this is not a 100% re-write of the plot, Hank and Janet were taken out of Avengers because of Edgar's vision (way way before the MCU really took shape) and they are still adapting most if ot all of Edgar Wright's work so with Edgar in helm or Not, you'll still see Hope Van Dyne (IIRC).

The Edgar Wright DNA is still the skeleton of the film so don't expect too much regarding Janet UNLESS Feige and co. will introduce Janet in a way that we will not see it coming (not ala mandarin please!).

ALSO

I just don't understand why it took both Wright and Marvel that long to figure out that their collaboration wouldn't actually work out.

Yeah, pretty much as I suspected. Edgar Write came up with the idea of the film, before there was a MCU. It's clear that Marvel wants every one of their characters to fit into the MCU somehow, and Edgar came up with a back history that somehow contradicted what was in the MCU, and was inflexible over it.

It is what it is, but I think everyone needs to get over it, and hope that the current production turns out as good as possible. I know there will be some that will complain about Wright's departure even if the film is released and successful.

I think mistakes were probably made on both sides, but Wright is willfully ignorant to think he could just get his own way, just because it was his vision. This isn't like his other films, he was playing with someone else's toys.
