Daniel Craig confirmed as new James Bond

Going back to Die Another Day, the pre-credits sequence is excellent, so much better and more believable than what follows post-credits. It's like it's taken from a completely different film.

I heard the 'Craig' news this afternoon on CNN, so it is official. I don't know if to shoot myself in the head, or celebrate. And guess what....they said he's 'NOT' going to die his hair for the part....that's right Daniel Craig is going to be the first 'blonde Bond'! The producers are really trying to create controvery with this new bond. Sure he's a great actor (he was awesome in 'Road to Perdition') ,but i'm just not feeling him right now. I think all this new controversy sorrounding casino Royale will really get people flocking to the theatre's-which is what the studio wants. I'll reserve my judgement until later......

Also..i know sometimes that change can be good...but if they change the opening logo (with Bond walking and shooting at the screen) i'm walking outta the theatre, immediately!

It was better than the dancing naked women silhouette

Well, they changed it for Die Another Day, with the bullet actually coming toward the screen. Clearly director Lee Tamohori didn't understand that it's the gun barrel. So he has Bond actually shoot a bullet into someone else's gun.

Pointless, stupid and uneccesary CGI.

i still love Goldeneye i thinks its one of the best bond movies ever hey any idea if this is a prequel that we'll see 006 ?

Since i joind SHH ive always tried to objective about every film ive followed and i admit that i let my anger get the better of me the other night with the Craig thing,Now im not saying im sold yet but i don't think any Bond fan can look at the pic below and not see some of Bond especially as a ruthless killer

That's due to the gun and the tuxedo though. Give anyone a tuxedo and a gun and people will think, 'Bond'.

Connery, Moore, Brosnan, they all have the charisma and the natural smoothness regardless of what they are wearing. Timothy Dalton is certainly suave and dashing. Even George Lazenby projects laid-back confidence. Daniel Craig doesn't have any of those.

Daniel Craig arrived at the James Bond press conference by boat

cool way to launch him did Brosnan have the same thing

Brosnan bungee jumped off a damn into a Soviet Military Base, where the press conference was being held.

He said they did it just to do it. For the 20th movie they wanted Bond to shoot through the gunbarrel (which he knows it is) and he outright said he only did it for the 20th movie, and said it should not and will not be used again

Well no one was more opposed to him as Bond than me (except maybe the guy with the "Burn in hell Craig" thread) but i honestly think there is a menace to him in that pic that exudes a presence

Campbell confirmed that "Casino Royale" will be a "grittier" movie. Although the gadgets and technology will be reduced and characters enhance, Campbell reiterated that key elements attributed to the success of the series will still be there in good measure. The direction of the 21st film will not be a "reboot", more an exploration of untapped areas. "It's not a question of redefining, it's a matter of going somewhere they haven't before", said Daniel Craig. He backed up Campbell's comments on the screenplay. "We've got an incredible script", he added. Producer Michael G. Wilson said, "We want to do it the right way. It's going to take an approach we haven't taken before."

I have faith in them. As long as there is no cgi, it will be a much better movie than DAD (which isn't a terrible movie to begin with.)

I agree with everything except your last comment. DAD was pretty horrible.

Except that James Bond doesn't need a reboot, or a prequel, it doesn't need the "Batman Begins" treatment.

I knew the movie was going to be bad from the gun barrel sequence. I hated that they changed it. That's the iconic beginning of every Bond movie for God's sake! Tamahori proved that he knew nothing about Bond. I jsut hope DAD wasn't the Star Trek Nemesis of th Bond franchise...

I'm very happy that they chose Daniel Craig. I just pray that it won't end up like Die Another Day. That movie was such a joke.

Craig will be adequate...but I still don't think he looks like Bond at all. I wish Clive Owen would have taken the job...he was the best choice for the role.

You could easily say it does.

The series has become increasingly stale, unoriginal, uninspired and over reliant on gadgets and special effects. You could easily say that warrants a prequel and/or reboot in the sense that the film makers have to stop relying on the other films, have to make something new and fresh and innovative that stands firmly as a movie rather than an effects extravaganza with pretty bells and whistles.

That...sounds an awful lot like Batman Begins. Batman Begins didn't just go back and restart Batman history, it...reinvigorated the character, it dropped, nearly completely, the old methods of making a Batman movie, and instead tried something new, tried to draw it's appeal and quality from it's main character himself rather everything around him. Its makers saw all of the little, but very important, things its predecessors forgot about. It added onto the source material, rather than dumbing it down or leaving it out.

Frankly, that's exactly what I hope Casino Royal can do for the Bond franchise.
