lol....... :o Brosnan is pissed even more!

I seen Layer Cake some of his films he's good actor but I hope Daniel Craig will prove me wrong, I don't see him as Bond material but Pierce Brosnan always be my favourite Bond.

Layer Cake is highly overrated. Daniel Craig paired with the Bond franchise is a horrible match. I guess that all you need to be Bond is a British accent.
It would appear so:(

I'm of 2 minds about this. I think Brosnan was an excellent Bond and had another film in him as, unlike Roger Moore, he didn't try to pretend he was the same age in all of his movies. I also didn't like the way the Bond producers simply dropped him, especially if it was true tha he had convinced Tarantino to direct a version of Casino Royale.

On the other hand, Brosnan had a good run and it's always exciting to see a new actor step into the role, especially if they plan to revamp the series a little, as they seem to be doing. I am not sure about Daniel Craig. I've only seem him in Road to PErdition , and he seems capable enough. However, Timothy Dalton was also a very capable actor who didn't quite work as Bond. For some reason, Bond needs to be played by an actor with some kind of star power or charisma. Connery had it, Lazenby didn't. Moore had it, even tho it was different than Connery, Dalton didn't. Brosnan had it, Daniel Craig, who knows?

And tho I don't like to comment on a person's physicall attributes, in all the pictures I've seen of him Craig looks older than 37.

I also think that the problem with the Bond films overall has not been the actors playing him, but has been the refusal of the producers to allow those actors to stretch the role and to release some control and vision to "A" list or cutting edge directors.

I will wait and see the new film before rendereing my final opinon.

i dont think he looks suave enogh, and i will admit i havent seen anything he is in, so i will hold off completely blasting the guy. he could do a great job. so i will wait to see how casino royale turns out before i am critical or overjoyed at the choice old danny.

I wanted to be the first black James Bond!!!!!! They told me no :( they said James Bond doesnt care about black people :(

I'm gonna take my negative thinking and turn it into positive....

....originally when I heard Daniel Craig was in the running, I thought to myself "no way, he doesn't have the look. he doesn't look dashingly handsome or suave like the others did" but just now i got to thinking....

....this movie is supposed to give new life to Bond the way GoldenEye did. If they're indeed talking about giving Bond more edge (making him seem more human and mortal) then it only makes sense that they're gonna get an actor who doesn't look like one of the most beautiful men in Hollywood. Realistically....what are the chances that a spy would be able to kick ass AND look like Brad Pitt while he's doing it. Ya know? So....I'm not gonna focus on so much how Daniel Craig looks as Bond. I'm gonna pay attention to how he ACTS as Bond.

It's official: Daniel Craig is the new James Bond!

Eon Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment made the announcement today at London press conference held aboard the historic WWI spy ship HMS President, ending more than 18 months of rampant speculation after four-time Bond Pierce Brosnan was dropped from the role in Feburary of last year.

The actor has been signed to a three-picture deal starting with the upcoming 007 film, Casino Royale.

Craig arrived at the press conference via speedboat escorted by the Royal Navy. The press conference was attended by Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, and director Martin Campbell. Wilson confirmed Craig was the only one they offered the film to. Campbell called his new Bond "fantastic."

Craig said he found out on Monday in Baltimore that he had the role. "I need a drink," was his response.

Wilson confirmed that Casino Royale would be James Bond's "first mission" as a double-oh agent and that the central relationship with the Bond Girl is more serious and will effect Bond's character at the end. Campbell said it is "definitely a darker film, more character less gadgets."

Daniel Craig's candidacy for the role of James Bond has been the most interesting of all.

In April, the 37-year-old British actor was suddenly and mysteriously touted by media the world over as having landed the role; when CBn investigated, sources indicated Craig was not in the running.

Craig then revealed to IGN Filmforce that he had been offered the role by the studio (MGM), but not by Eon Productions. Later, trade paper The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Barbara Broccoli liked Craig, but Michael G. Wilson did not. Indeed, Craig is said to be a close personal friend of Broccoli's.

Craig's candidacy disappeared amid rumours of younger candidates until CBn exclusively broke the news in its monthly podcast that Craig was back in serious contention for the role, despite comments by screenwriter Paul Haggis and Martin Campbell that Bond in Casino Royale would be a rookie agent of just 28 years old.

The rumblings and rumours about Craig's candidacy intensified throughout September and October until the Daily Mail announced on Monday that Craig had indeed landed the role. A flurry of unconfirmed press reports followed...ending today with Craig's official appointment to Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Bond fans have been split down the middle about Daniel Craig's suitability for the part. Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. Fans advocating for Craig believe the actor would bring a new edge to the character, with many highlighting his physical likeness to Hoagy Carmichael, whom Ian Fleming said was his ideal model of how 007 should look. Other fans have been less enthusiastic, arguing the actor to be a far cry from the heretofore standard for the cinematic James Bond.

Daniel Craig was born in Chester, England in 1968. After growing up in Liverpool and moving to England, he joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of 16 and later secured a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 1992 he made theatrical acting debut in the filmic adaptation of Bryce Courtenay's The Power Of One. Craig's filmography includes Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road To Perdition, The Jacket and his critically-acclaimed turn as an unnamed drug dealer in Layer Cake. He will next appear alongside Eric Bana and Geoffrey Rush in Steven Spielberg's new film, Munich.

And in 2006, Daniel Craig will make his debut appearance as James Bond, 007 in Casino Royale.

Casino Royale is based on Ian Fleming's very first James Bond novel. The film will begin shooting in January '06 in England, Prague, The Bahamas, and possibly Italy, for released in Autumn 2006.

i wanted to be the first fat james bond but they told me to f*** right off. iassume he doesnt care for fat people either.

I would have liked that Brosnan could continue, but I think they could have done a lot worse!

I actually like this part "definitely a darker film, more character less gadgets." Kinda torn on Craig though!

One thing that's been bugging me...is this a restart or a continuation of the franchise? ie. Will Bond have been married, killed Blofeld, SPECTRE etc?

I like Craig. He's a fine actor. I think he'll do well with the role.

Which ties into my theory that the reason they chose Craig over prettier looking guys is because they're trying to make this film different from the rest of the Bond films. They're going for a edgier, grittier James Bond than before....therefor a rugged looking Bond is appropriate.

Ah ha! So if this is Bond's first mission, then that means the the characters that Judi Dench and John Cleese are playing are actually the original M and Q and not thier respective replacements, ie the characters presented in the later Brosnan flicks....ooh.

Aparently there will be no Q or M in this one,i think its crazy to cast a guy so old for Bonds first mission

No..apparerntly thats not going to happen..judy dench and john cleese will return as M & Q.

the story will be changed to fit his age.

Craig is the best casting choice since Connery.

Although it is true that he doesn't resemble what people have come to expect from a James Bond, that is in fact what makes him so right. Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have all been the fruits of MGM's attempts to find someone a bit like Sean Connery. Or at least someone with dark hair. That's about the only thing that they have in common with each other.

Daniel Craig has the potential to be to Bond what Bale has been to Batman. He fits the Bond of literature better. Craig looks like a fighter. He looks like someone who has had a career in the military before joining the secret service- as Bond should. I really hope that the producers are serious about returning Bond to his cold, sadistic roots. I hope they finally give him the 3" scar on his cheek he was always supposed to have.

Sure, I want them to keep the class and sophistication (though I would like to point out that the James Bond of the novels drinks Krug champagne as often as vulgar Vodka Martinis), and maybe I would even prefer them to stick a little die in Craig's hair. But the potential here to rejuvinate the franchise from a campy-sci fi-sex-farce and back into a gritty, character driven spy thriller is huge.
