Daniel Craig confirmed as new James Bond

A day ahead of the official announcement, Daniel Craig's mother could not contain her excitement that her son was the sixth James Bond 007 - so she leaked the news to her local newspaper.

Carol Craig told the Liverpool Daily Post that she was delighted with his appointment. "Obviously we are thrilled to bits", she said.

"It has come at a very good time in his career. He has worked extremely hard all his life and this would be his biggest populist role."

"I think he could bring something very interesting to the part. It will be life-changing."

Daniel Craig will be officially announced at noon on Friday 14th October 2005 in London.

I'd find it hilarious if it turns out he's not Bond.

Hahahah.

2 movies out of craig. then we'll do this dance all over again. i don't remember any of the bond films after Goldeneye anyway. that movie was balls to the walls fun and not prodding and over the top like the movies following it.

I hate the restart Idea. Pierce deserves better than how he has been treated. If all the reports are true I for one will not see Casino Royale.

I'm open to the restart idea with a more gritty Bond. I've gotten quite sick of the "Bond must save the world" plots with snappy one liners about oral sex.

 Wow, I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Oh joy!

Funny thing is up till last month I hadn't seen Goldeneye since it's video release. I used to think it was ok back then, but when I saw it again I really didn't like it. Funny how your tastes change as you grow older. I was 12 when I first saw that movie maybe that's why I liked it back then. Tomorrow Never Dies on the other hand I have always liked. It's one of my all time favorite Bond films and the only Brosnan Bond movie that I own.

I'm actually in favor of the restart but if they'd scrap that idea and make another flick with the TND Bond characterization. I'd be just as excited, Michelle Yeoh gets a

The name of this thread hurts my head because it used both past and future tense of words.

i actually heard that they reconsidered and Brosnan will in fact be taking the role but im not nearly !00% on that

Crikey! He's blond.

Blond, James Blond. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Oh man, this is awesome.
Like I said before, I'm 100% behind the Craig as the new Bond.
Plus, it'll piss off the fanboys  :D

This guy will easily de-throne Moore as the worst Bond.

What about Lazenby?

Man, isn't there any chance you guys are just being too hard on the guy? I haven't seen Layer Cake, but they say he was damn good in that.

He must've been pretty bad if I haven't even heard of him. At least Timothy Dalton made it into that song on Spike TV.

LOL Jay Leno made a funny joke the other night about Craig as Bond. "Even Harriet Meyers said "Who the heck is this guy?" :D

I think George Lazenby only had one movie (maybe two). Kinda shows what people thought.

Can you post a pic of him and the Bond movie(s) he was in?

I actually wonder what Jude Law would be like as Bond if they dyed his hair. He might be a bit too left-field of a choice though.

I just don't know if I could take him serious. I didn't feel like he did a very good job in Sky Captain, and that's the closest thing I can think of that he's been in to Bond.

According to the less than completely reliable British newspaper, The Daily Mail. It's not a trashy tabloid like many British 'newspapers', but it's not especially respectable either.

The Mail says Craig will be confirmed by EON later this week, and the script will be altered as he is 37, not 28 as the producers ideally wanted.

And The Mail says Craig will not dye his hair. He will play 007 blonde.

"Bond. James Bond. Maybe."

Worst Bond ever. I'd rather have Jason Statham as Bond than this guy. :o

(PS I think Statham is awesome but he'd be horrible as Bond)

I don't like the way Lazenby looks as Bond.

He was only in one movie, apparently. And after that came Never Say Never Again with Connery returning as an aged Bond, and I liked that one alot. I guess I'd have to see Lazenby's movie to fairly judge, but I doubt I'd be screaming "Why was he only in one movie!?" when the credits roll.

Anyway, Craig looks like he's goign to flownder pretty bad. I don't see him getting more than one movie. If the Bond series dies out after this, it will be because they went in the complete wrong direction. The concept of restarting with a fresh, young Bond was great. But now it's gonna be just another run-o-the-mill late 30's bond running through one traditional Bond cliche after another.

I actually heard Orlando Bloom was considered for Casino Royale at one point, but they dropped him from the list. I don't know if I could have bought him as Bond because of his high-toned voice and boyish-ness, but I think he'd at least have been going in a better direction than Craig.

I think they should revert to a younger Bond and try to age Bond naturally with that actor. Bloom may be too big a name and unlikely to want to be tied down with that path. I don't get why they dropped Pierce. He said he was devastated by the news.

Given the Craig casting, it was obviousely NOT because they wanted to go in a younger direction. :o

George Lazenby was an Australian model who had no experience acting prior to OHMSS. There's alot of debate about where his film ranks in the grand scheme of things. Some say his Bond film was one of the best, if not the most underated. OHMSS was more or less buried by the studiio and fans alike until they started releasing the films on video and DVD and people saw the nature of the film and he's slowly gaining more and more acceptance.

Some say Lazenby was right for the role because Connery may have not been able to pull it off considering the nature of the script, especially the ending. There a few things that bug me about the film. Lazenby "breaking the 4th wall" when he says, "this never happened to the other fellow," meaning Connery and the small fact that Blofeld and Bond do not recognize each other in the film.

Other than that, I enjoy the film emmensly. The raid on Blofeld's mountain resort is pretty awesome and the death of Teresa Bond is quite extraordinary considering the final scene of the film is the shattered window glass. It's one of those quintessential Bond films in my opinion. You have to watch it to appreciate it.
