Daniel Craig confirmed as new James Bond

Most arent saying the down to earth tone or more realistic approach are going to ruin i they are saying a Bond who looks like Craig will
Because clearly the books were nothing but hundreds of pages describing Bond's features. That were the crux of the stories.

Yes, you are a fan. A Bond movie fan. Which isn't the purest and truest vision of Bond. It also means you have no knowledge of the original creators intent.

Nothing wrong with that of course. you could easily say that you are not a real fan 'the true James Bond', while i am not a real fan of 'the camp, limited, shallow, watered down pop culture James Bond'.

See, works both ways :)

So I'm a fan of the shallow and camp Bond?

:(

I never said i'm superior. I just think that people who talk about what Bond is and what he's not and how the movie franchise will be ruined because Casino Royale features a more down to earth tone(or whatever) when they haven't read a book need to ****.

I'm not referring to Everyman here specifically. I'm a member of the Mi6 boards and there are tons of Brosnan baby boomers who think they know what they're talking about. Casino Royale, imo, is a really good opportunity to pay homage to the source material in a truthful and honest way and do something that has hasn't really been done before.

:o

What really gets me is that you're actually annoyed at them. It seems like you get your self-esteem from being a Bond fan and feel threatened by other fans who aren't as 'pure' as you.

No offense, but that's how it comes across in your posts.

No, he doesn't. You can say whatever you like about Craig, but his features are most certainly not feminine.

well, craig doesn't look feminine in fact he looks a charmeless and rude 50 years old guy.
That's my problem. In the book Bond is blue eyed and has a scar, but he is still depicted as a good looking 35 years old man ( which craig doesn't )

There is no way in which static facial features can subjectively look "rude". And if I look like Daniel Craig by the time I'm fifty, I will be very pleased.

I really don't understand why so many young men here are hung up on Craig's looks. He may not have the girly-man prettiness of Brosnan, but he isn't an ugly person. Most women I've asked about him say, approximately, that he looks a bit rough, but not in a bad way. I think that's fine.

Well it is annoying to hear them say over and over that the film is "ruined" because they don't like the Craig looks.

On today's IMDb, EON are suggesting Daniel Craig was their first choice.

"Daniel Craig was the producers' first choice to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, dispelling reports that the prestigious role had been turned down by other actors during the protracted selection process. Producer Michael G. Wilson told Friday's press conference in London that he spent two years searching for the new British superspy, and a host of contenders including Clive Owen, Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor were not offered the part in Casino Royale. Wilson said, "(Daniel Craig) was the only one we offered the film to. There's been some speculation that we offered it to other people but that's not accurate." The 37-year-old, who will be the first blond Bond, is expected to portray a stripped down Bond in what is expected to be a darker exploration of the world of espionage. Craig added, "I want to take Bond somewhere he's never been before."

If you really think EON chose Daniel Craig over Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and Orlando Bloom, you're kidding yourself. They got the highest guy on their list, and that guy was unfortunetly near the bottom.

Orlando Bloom - too big a star now
Hugh Jackman - too big a star now
Ewan McGregor - too big a star
Jude Law - too big a star
Eric Bana - not intrested
Clive Owen - not intrested
Pierce Brosnan - maybe, he's looking too old for 007 though
Daniel Craig - maybe
Hugh Grant - if there's no one else

You can't seriously believe that Orlando Bloom would have been better.

Im deadly serious here.

Im a fan of Craig, and i think he will be great if the material is great. But as this has developed into a row about Craigs ruggedly handsome, thinking woman's bit of rough looks, im going to throw in a name I would truly love to have seen play Bond........well spoken, well educated, English, suave, smooth, good looking.

Rupert Everett. Now, that would have been casting that would have taken some bollocks. Imagine the shoitestorm that would have caused!

Well he was good as Sherlock Homes but i think he is to eccentric in his mannerisms to make a good Bond.

I really don't like Everett. He's very good looking, but his voice and eyebrow work are just too laboured for my liking, which makes him seem very phoney. Casting him would have caused a hilarious media response, though!

well, everett would have been an interessting bond but what he has said about brosnan has killed him as a bond contender.

Yes, he has killed himself.

Orlando Bloom is a joke. Law is a good actor but looks a bit feminine. Bana is a good actor but hasn't the charm and the aristocratic class requiered.

Yes, Mc Gregor is too big a star now, and I can't see him as a killer.

What a Pity Owen turned down the role, I would have accepted him.

As for Brosnan, he looks younger than Craig, and that's a problem for me. I would have kept Brosnan for a last movie.

the scottish milkman that got the part in the 60s was pretty much lacking in all of that. Thats why they are actors.

I can not understand the fuss about Clive owen for this role. Personally, i find him utterly lacking in charisma. His flat, monotone drone puts me to sleep, and Ive seen wet paper bags that Ive found to be more interesting.
still, each to their own.

and yet he is 14 years older. Just like Moore, who is older than connery, looks a lot younger. c'est la vie. sometimes people look older than they are. 37 year old Daniel Craig playing 35 year old spy. not too much of a stretch, is it?

I think hes a good enough actor, but always been stuck in silly comedy stuff. Itd be worth it tho, just to see the fuss the british media would be making.

Brosnan seems to have had quite a bit of botox/surgery over the years, but he really doesn't look that young anymore. If he wasn't wearing hair dye here, he would probably look even older than his 52 years.

Craig probably looks older than he is, but he looked about the same as he does now ten years ago. He has one of those heavy-set faces that is pretty much ageless. Sean Connery is similar in that respect: he first played Bond in his thirties, but looked older, and didn't look drastically different when he last played Bond in his fifties.

I guess, but even richard roxburgh was better, Roxburgh based his Holmes on the master Basil rathbone.

:)

Ian hart was superb as doctor watson.

The Master was Jeremy Brett:mad: :p

To be quite honest, I give little importance to who gets the role these days, I think the Bond franchise has been stale for years... To me the secret agent of the new millennium is Jason Bourne. Him and TV´s Jack Bauer, for different reasons.

You know I'm not going to jump on the band wagon and condemn this guy.I'm going to give him a chance.

I admit he wouldn't be my first choice to replace Brosnan. But I'll wait til I see some footage of him as Bond.

I guess we were clutching at straws in hoping Brosnan would return. It's just sad that his last movie was Die another day.Similar to Connery and Moore, their last Bond movies were weak too.

Btw I just heard on the news that Angelina Jolie is up for the role of the next Bond girl. Some russian agent or something.
