Justice League Danny Elfman Scoring Justice League - Part 2

[YT]WSAHqMWHJJg[/YT]

Feel the sense of danger and suspense.

Something Justice League lacked.

I miss the MoS soundtrack

For me, this always felt like it was meant for Superman or the Justice League.

His score is one of the vere few legitimely good things about those movies. I'd love to see him score a DC film in the future. Plus he's a protege of Zimmer.

So I've been doin some brainstorming on this eventual "Justice League: Junkie XL remix" that I'm gonna do and been listening to the Mad Max score and, really, theres so much rich material to use from that. Imagine, for example, the end montage over "Let Them Up." It fits so perfectly! I cant wait for Warner Bros to just dump the movie on video already so I can start working on this. Y'all think im joking but be on the lookout. The Junkie XL remix is coming next Spring y'all. ;)

For all that I dislike about Elfman's work on the score, got to say the Hero's Theme has grown on me.

Definitely, it's quite similar to BvS actually. Plenty to work with ;)

i went on youtube last night to listen to the soundtrack.

the flash theme is ok. the rest is still blah.
so my opinion hasn't changed.

i wasn't a super big fan of the junkie xl/zimmer soundtrack for BvS, but at least it did not sound so generic.

MoS soundtrack tho is my jam.

Yeah, another mediocre Zimmerclone who made ONE good (but not great) score (first Transformers) and nothing interesting beside it. Keep that guy away from DCEU/MCU/X-verse.

Steve Jablonsky is an amazing composer. His work on the Transformers films is top-notch work.

He really is. He doesn't get mentioned a lot I think cause he works with Bay/he scores are always with the best movies but they are very good. I think my favorite piece is I Believe in Fitness

Has Elfman even responded to what people are saying about the score?

Heaven forbid I have an opinion. :whatever:

Also I love how you included the MCU on there, because as we all know, if there's something Marvel excells at it's their musical scores.

MCU generally sucks in music department, but Jablonsky won't help them change that.

Doesn't matter. I just stated that in my opinion it would be interesting for him to score a DCEU film. No need to get riled up about it.

Yeah it's a shame that his work often gets dismissed due to Bay's films. My favourite track from his Transformers work is "We Have To Go" and "Sentinel Prime". The way they build up....:hmr:

Yeah you're right. Let's bring in the man who made good scores back in the 90s, I'm sure his talent hasn't dissipated over the years. I'm sure he'd respect the previous work that's been put by Zimmer and Junkie into the previous films. I'm sure he'd have the common sense to include those themes and not throw them out for themes from the 70s and 90s that were made for different interpretations of the characters.

Oh wait....

And I still can't get over how toxic this damn thread is. I can understand being disappointed about Junkie's firing. I can understand Elfman's score not being to some peoples' tastes, but there's no conversation going on here, just hyperbolic ranting & raving. And these personal attacks against the composer himself are simply uncalled for. There's no point attempting to discuss the score here when everyone is so intent on being negative and calling the worst thing ever.

I agree.

The late James Horner got similar flack for his "old-fashioned" and heart-on-sleeve score for The Amazing Spider-Man. Same thing here for Elfman's work on JL.

I do wish Elfman had incorporated Zimmer's Superman motif the way he used the WW theme... I would've loved to hear his arrangement of "Flight" alongside his usage of Williams' Superman theme. (Especially since the WW arrangement was fantastic.)

I've watched the film three times, and Elfman's score has really grown on me. I really like how he plays the different themes against each other, and when you really analyze the score, he doesn't really use his Batman theme or Williams' Superman theme that much. He underplays and hints at them, and only does he bring them out in full force occasionally.

One reviewer says he loves the score but conflicted about Elfman's decision to discard Zimmer's Batman and Superman material from MOS and BvS (which he didn't like).

I actually really like Horner's TAS score. Think it's very underrated.

My problem with Elfman is, besides the motifs and Steppenwolf's theme, I don't think he brought good material on the composing side of things. I think he got swallowed too much by his own ego in using his Batman theme and JW's Supes theme, and just threw away Zimmer and Junkie's work away like it was trash without finding a way to blend it into the movie. If he did it with WW's theme, why not the same with MOS'? I don't mind that it's old-fashioned, it's just that to me there's almost nothing worth remembering about it. And it's a huge detriment to the movie as well imo.

I honestly could not remember a single piece of music from JL, that was how forgettable the score was.

My favourite track from his Transformers work is "We Have To Go" and "Sentinel Prime".
Sentinel Prime...
yeah, that's indeed brilliant... copy/paste from Zimmer's Last Samurai :)

in using his Batman theme and JW's Supes theme

There are literally seconds of it. Maybe 10 seconds of Williams, not that much more of Batman theme which is buried under SFX most of the time. I dont know what the problem is.

My man SD can tell you exactly what the problem is. This score ended up as white noise. Did nothing to elevate any of the scenes. Just look at the difference between clips with Zimmer's score and what we got.

There's one scene where Danny's music totally took me out of the picture. [BLACKOUT]The terrorist attack.[/BLACKOUT] There was totally goofy circus music there I could not believe they put it into the film.

Yeah, that was...a very bizarre choice. Still confused about it.

I half expected the Penguin's goons to come jumping out of giant presents.
