Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 4

Do we want a dedicted review thread or will this one suffice? It might be handy to have a specific thread for collecting them.

I'm down for a new one, go ahead and create one for us, I'll be updating every time I can.

It's exactly because I don't have time for anything that I have signed up. When I want to see something, I just go there and see something that I could be interested on. I'm too lazy to download my stuff like I used to and too cheap for a cable, since cable is mostly useless for me.

But Netflix isn't free mate.

It's quite cheap here where I live next to the cable alternative. I share my account with my in laws and my fiancée, so it's even cheaper.

I guess its cheap when you share it with others. Sadly, I live alone. Currently single. :csad:

Netflix is one of those companies that I would donate money to if they were relying only on donations.

Before them all I had was a Blockbusters at the shopping center.

Who wants to return to those days?

I'm grateful.

Same here. I'd do the same for Spotify, but the bands I enjoy I buy their records so there's no need for that.

And Darkraid, you could split it with your friends. You can access your account on two or three devices at the same time, I don't remember exactly, but you don't need to live in the same place of your friends to split your account.

Let's round up the best [reviews] and send 6 to Faraci.

There's no need to confront him. That would only justify their friends trolling the tv series just because. Thank God that the best review is the one we give when the binge watching of the episodes ends. :woot:

MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL REVIEW: BEAUTIFUL, BRUTAL, BRILLIANT

The first five episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil were provided by Netflix for review.

While flipping through the pages of your favorite comic book, it is easy to forget how brutal the world of superheroes truly can be, especially for the street-level heroes. Up to this point, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been saturated with superhuman powers, Iron Man suits, and villains who seek to conquer or destroy worlds.

This led me to be skeptical about whether or not Marvel’s Daredevil would be able to take what made their super-powered Cinematic Universe so popular and adapt it to their human heroes. How big of a threat could Wilson Fisk be when compared to Ronan, Loki, or any of the other MCU villains? What makes Matthew Murdock, a lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen, so special?

After watching the first five episodes, I can safely say that Marvel’s Daredevil transcends the current offering of comic book shows on television, redefining the genre as we know it.

I'm not going forward because I'm avoiding spoilers. :woot:

Yet another very positive review:

Daredevil is a must-see Netflix show that proves Marvel Studios can do more than produce traditional superhero blockbuster fare. The show mixes up the standard Marvel formula and is all the better for it. Not just for Daredevil and Marvel fans, but also for viewers who like their superheroes a tad darker and more realistic (think DC’s Arrow or The Dark Knight Trilogy). Daredevil may not be the most original mix between superhero show and crime drama, but it is everything a live-action Daredevil origin story should be. Right on the mark, this one.

So the show
takes place the same year as TWS.

Daredevil is going to be the best comic book show ever produced. I can't wait for this and all of the other Defenders.

Let's round up the best [reviews] and send 6 to Faraci.

I already know what his comeback would be. That these are all no-name sites that lack his legitimacy, so his opinion based on gut feeling should hold more clout than their reviews based on seeing it.

Who here wants to see Elektra in the second season?

Spin her off to a new series as well.

What happened to the "very bad buzz" it was getting? That was a lie? Shoulda known, it was Devin "Farthead" Feraci

I haven't read it past the intro it says it contains mild spoilers, but it say it's fantastic

Mark your calendars and start prepping for a binge watch session: there are only 10 days left until Daredevil’s official induction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe on April 10th. We got to watch the first five hours of the 13 episode-long series early, and BOY is it fantastic. Seriously, put all Ben Affleck-fueled worries behind you and get fully onboard the hype train, because we can bet you won’t be disappointed by what Netflix has done with this beloved comic book vigilante.

There's still time for bad buzz to come in, so I won't get complacent. But with Devin Faraci, the risk is often that he can't just stop at saying, "I think this thing I've decided not to like will suck." That's his opinion, he has a right to it. But subjective isn't enough for him, he needs his opinions to be seen as objective. And so, "I think this will be bad" morphs into "Buzz indicates this will be bad."

As I said when he made that comment though, I understand it not being as good as we expected/hoped though early reviews don't indicate that, but it being 'very bad' I highly doubt at this point.

I guess it's likely (why would he lie when he would be proved wrong later) that he knows a couple of people who didn't like it, perhaps they thought it too serious or something and he just jumped on that because he wants it to be bad.

lol, I love the explanation by Keyser. That was good stuff!

Yeah, there could most likely be a degree of "echo chamber theory" in there. Where if you actively, visibly talk about how you hate something, odds are the people you closely associate with will reflect those views back at you. And if the people Devin closely associates with who got access to advance review episodes reflected those views back at him, a dose of confirmation bias could equate that to "bad buzz."

Compared to Marvel’s experience with “Agents of SHIELD” for ABC, operating in Netflix’s pay-to-view world is clearly liberating, in much the way animated direct-to-DVD titles enable the comics companies to cater to knowledgeable fans without needing to worry too much about luring the uninitiated into the tent. And the binge prospect should be helpful in getting people hooked on the overarching adventure, complete with Russian mobsters and feuding crime factions building toward the inevitable Daredevil-Kingpin showdown.

By that measure, Marvel has shrewdly expanded its portfolio, and Netflix has upped its must-have quotient with a fiercely loyal segment of consumers. Viewed that way, costume or no costume, “Daredevil” looks dressed for success.

Grade: (A–): Netflix only provided me access to the first five episodes of “Daredevil.” After plowing through them in one sitting, I was ready for more. I’m looking forward to seeing where this fun series, which nicely balances drama and action, goes from here. If you’re a Netflix subscriber and a Marvel fan, you’ll certainly get a kick out of this new franchise.
