Sorry, Michael Clarke Duncan was just not a very good Kingpin. The movie was a disappointment yet people are still in denial about it.

Did you ever think those people aren't in denial and they actually liked it?

Sure, the movie was certainly as dissappointment but MCD in my mind wasnt. He wasnt perfect my any means, but he was the best actor available at the time with both the acting skills and the physical requirement needed.

Of course, if you can offer a better alternative available in 2003, I'd be all ears.

As much as I disliked MCD in the role, I can't think of anyone that could have done the role justice (including MCD).

I mean...even today, who can play this guy?

Intelligent, Martial Artist the size of the biggest sumo wrestler.....and can act.

I'm of the opinion that they'll need to get a wrestler...have the guy shave all his hair and have him wear some kinda suit.

i think mat damon would be good matt mudrock. he can fight just watch bourne series. i think he would do good as dear devil iwould also get john goodman as kingpin. he looks just like him.hes goodactor.

Exactly, all that I could think of at the time were wrestlers. MCD was as good as we got, maybe still.

I keep hearing some people say this-and-this actor should play Kingpin and they should put him in a fat suit or use CGI. I don't buy that. Wilson Fisk isn't some "creature" like the Thing or the Hulk. Just find someone as close as humanly possible to the Kingpin, someone physically imposing and a good actor.

^^ Agreed.

I'm surprised some people have actually complained about the casting of MCD as Kingpin. I always found him to have the same physical intimidation that kingpin in the comics had.

Me too.
And I really liked MCD as Kingpin.

I remember his name being linked to the previous DD movie back in the days when I used to pick up movie news and rumours from the weekend paper, and I seem to recall reading later on that he eventually decided not to do any superhero movies.
edit: but y'know, that was back in 2000/1 or whatever, when the superhero movie machine we now know was just starting to gear up with more quality movies in general, so his opinion on the genre may have changed since then.

and get well soon Gene Colan, I sent him a letter and a comic book a couple of years ago when he was sick, he is one of the absolute true greats of art, and on the DD dvd extras doc he seems like an extremely nice person.

Trust me, as an Englishman who's seen Ray in a lot of things, I'm in a position to say that there's only one type of character that Winston can play and that's not Wilson Fisk, in that the Kingpin isnt a London gangster/cockney wideboy; that's all he can play and even in that he's become but a caricature of himself of late.

Last time he played American was the Departed, wasnt it? His 'American' accent was shonky as hell.

He showed up in Ninja Assassin. As a guy named Kingpin. No joke.

Winston was in that "London Boulevard" film with Colin Farrell of all people. Farrell was Winston's cockney Bullseye, with Winston as a cockney Kingpin, while Keira Knightley was er... the equivalent of Elektra and Anna Friel the equivalent of Daredevil.

I still like James Gandolfini for the role. He is capable of dropping the Jersey accent, is physically imposing, would probably even put on another twenty pounds for the role and is a tremendous actor.

I kind of like the idea of Michael Rooker (Mallrats, Henry: Potrait of a Serial Killer, Slither) as Kingpin. In Mallrats he comes off a bit like a poor man's Lex Luthor, and I think with some training he's proven he can get big. Of course, if not, there is always the special effects department.

I support Ray Winstone as the Kingpin.

I actually liked Affleck as Daredevil but I my biggest wish is of course that the rights are returned to Marvel Studios.
