Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

How did everyone feel about the change in Elektra and Bullseye's costumes in Daredevil (2003)? I was fine with it, because, especially with Bullseye, I think that their comic book outfits might not have worked very well. Now I don't mean that their costumes wouldn't work on screen at all, but I think that it depends on the film. The reason I say the outfits wouldn't work as well as it does in the comics. In the comics, Daredevil and his associated rogues and supporting cast characters exist amid a whole universe of superheroes and supervillains in colorful costumes so those costumes aren't particularly outlandish by that universe's standards. In the movie, there was Daredevil, Elektra, Bullseye, maybe Kingpin (he doesn't really wear a costume),...and that was it. That would mean that Bullseye and Elektra would be the only assassins in the world who would be wearing costumes, which would make them stand out like a sore thumb.

The Elektra movie still inhabited the same world as movie DD, and yet she wore a variation on her red costume (but without the red thong and sash). In Daredevil, I think the reason she had a black costume was probably because DD was in red, and they wanted to reserve that colour for him alone and not have Elektra clash with that. I know it's a dumb reason because it's not like people would mistake her for DD, but that is often the director's reasoning. I'm guessing it's for when there are fighting in fast action scenes and you can't see whose limb belongs to who, so they want colours that will distinguish each actor. In Elektra, there was no DD so she could then wear red.

Man I havent heard about this in a while. Forgot about it. I hope we hear news soon

I never saw Elektra, but wasn't she fighting a bunch of freakish supervillains in that film, as opposed to Daredevil, which was set in a world of gangsters, crime bosses, rapists, et cetera?

Well Ben Affleck actually cameos as Matt Murdock during a dream sequence confirming the connection between the films.I hope the Reboot is good but a part of me wants this to never get off the ground so Marvel Studios gets it back.

I meant that, even if they are in the same universe, they had very different settings. Elektra was far more fantastical than Daredevil was.

But none of them wore costumes that were any more fantastical than Elektra's or the costumes that people wore in Daredevil.

Tbh, I have faithi n this film. I may be in them inority, but I loved the Director's Cut of Daredevil (2003) and I was hoping for a sequel. I really don't want to wait much longer for this film (even though it's a reboot).

However, if the rights whent back to Marvel, I'd be happy.

I heard that with this reboot they are basing it off of the "Born Again" storyline. Apparently Murdock's girl goes off to become an actress in LA but she ends up getting into adult films and addicted to heroin. I think she eventually sells Daredevil's secret identity for like a finger of dope. And his life presumably goes to s***. I think it has lots of potential to be a sweet movie, being under the wing of Marvel or some other company aside.

I always liked the Ultimate Alliance 2 Daredevil costume.

It's form-fitting but still allows for protection. Just make it a bit redder and darken the logo and you've got yourself a reboot suit.

Thanks, now I have to go play it!

The one thing I always hated about the 03 DD costume was the neck zipper. Towards the end, when the camera pans away really fast, the neck part is zipped up and the costume actually looks good. And in a certain way looks like a comic counterpart. I just hated the fact of that suit having a collar. :csad:

The new DareDevil suit doesn't need to be spandex, but please stop making them leather. A material that is similar to the stuff that was under Batman's armor in TDK would be perfect.

Actually, I'm perfectly fine with it being leather. He is human after all, so it makes sense that he would wear protective stuff. Maybe a canvas/leather coupling?

Yeah I really liked that design a lot. Things have been rather quiet in recent weeks, hopefully we'll hear something soon.

hopefully it won't be the 'image-armor' version.. heh..

regarding karen.. will she still be the secretary turned porn actress?

Seems likely.
This is Sony, not Disney/Marvel Studios; so they're freer to go for the more adult fare. I sincerely hope they shoot for an R-rating, but the last one was PG-13, and I see no reason to believe they would try to go for anything else this go round.

Yess please. Something more flexible for the likes of some one like DD. That's what always bothers we about leather suits, they seem so stiff and restricting to me.

I like that costume idea!

If Michael C. Hall is cast as DD, I'll quite literally pass out. Then I'll wake up and celebrate by having a Dexter marathon : ) So, anyone got any ideas on when this film should finally see the light of day? I'd like July 25th 2014. There's no CBMs that month and it's pretty much a lock for good BO. FOX should definitely make this a summer release.

I think they should use my (partially) written script.

I really want the Owl as a villain!

I would love to see Owl as a Villain. To this day, I would have loved to have seen a sequel to the 2003 film.
