Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

I mean, why the **** are German characters speaking to each other in English in Captain America?
Now that you mention it, that doesn't make much sense, does it? I can only offer the excuse that Johnston and the other filmmakers were kind of going for a 1940's serial feeling. However, the Germans spoke their native language to each other in Johnston's The Rocketeer, so that's just my best guess.

I remember seeing the first Daredevil movie in theaters back in 2003. That film was my first introduction to the character. I knew nothing about him prior to that. I know the 2003 film disappointed a lot of fans. Personally, I kind of enjoyed it and I especially enjoyed the Director's Cut. Still, I'm quite excited about the possibility of a reboot or even just a standalone Daredevil film.

Some very nice suggestions for the role of Matt Murdock, too. I love the idea of Michael C. Hall. I'm a big fan of Dexter and I think he could do a great job in the role. Another one that I found quite interesting was Patrick Wilson. He definitely looks like Matt Murdock (at least from the comics that I've seen). I also can't say I totally hate the idea of Jason Statham, which shocks me.

not likely we have a director and screen writers and film is likely in pre production

So far this movie is going nowhere. There is more life in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man than in the Daredevil reboot at this point. I fully suspect the rights to go back to MS next summer.

what do you mean nowhere ?we have a director ,we have a writer who handed in his 1st draft in December and they are going from their to work more and more on the script

Sounds like the Ant Man development hell, except Wright was at least working on other projects to explain his delays.

^david slade directed the 1st episode of NBC's Awake and directed episodes of Breaking bad and American Housewife

he is not just doing nothing lol

He's not doing MUCH, either. He directed one episode for each of those shows. It's not like he's the showrunner or even a prolific secondary director/writer, which would demand a lot of his time.

^he is a producer on Awake and American Housewife

Slade was named director in march
Brad Caleb Kane was named writer in june
1st draft on script was handed in December

movies dont get made 1 2 3

they are trying to make sure script is good to go

so i dont really see the problem

All I see is a lot of water treading. Batman Begins had a concise creative vision and a leading actor in less than a year, and that franchise had more baggage to overcome than DD.

not every movie gets made the same way

I doubt that.

The "baggage" that Batman had to overcome was a very profitable franchise based on one of the most recognizable comic book characters in history. Just like the Spider-Man franchise, a "finale" that is loathed by fanboys does not mean that general audiences still didn't eat it up.

The baggage that DD has to overcome is a movie that was received poorly by critics, even worse by fanboys, based on a comic book character that most general audiences have never even heard of.

And this movie will probably never made at all. After one year of development one would at least hear something of a progress, maybe casting tidbits or something like this. Instead Slade does nothing, directs a TV show now and then and probably has no intention to come back to this project ever.
I've seen this before, quite some times actually, and I 'll notice development hell when I see one.

Yeah, so David Slade's latest Twitter "updates" don't sound too encouraging:

I am focussing on Hannibal hoping after that to be able to get a burst of energy back on DD.

Daredevil update is that there is no real Daredevil update. We all want to make it but its going slow, & details are too boring to print

^no they wont they have a director and a script they are in pre production

so marvel cant touch it

Yawn....

That's hardly pre production. That process can last 20 years..... the contract would at least say "active" which it's not. A studio would be stupid to allow a contract to basically say "as long as they say they're working on it"

It'd be different if it was greenlit and casting began

we haven't read the contract so we can't comment on the what is or isn't in there...Fox has DD and there is some work being done on it..thats what we know

Lol the guy just said there's no work being done currently on it. And that he "hopes" to get around to it...

The movie is in film purgatory, and the odds that it will happen are now slimmer than ever

when someone says 'its going slow and the details are too boring to print'
does that mean
a) No work is being done on it
b) We are moving forward at a snails pace and anything we had accomplished thus far isn't interesting to anyone outside of Slade and the studio

I took it as b

you haven't followed movie development very long have you? lol...

80% of the time the film never get's made when it hits this point
19% of the time the film takes SEVERAL years to get made (5+)
1% of the time the film actually gets made in a relatively timely matter. (year or two)

This movie is currently in the same boat as Ghostbusters 3, Hellboy 3, and the ever so great example as Jurassic Park 4.... that's not a good (or hopeful) group of company.
