Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

Call me crazy but my dream director for a Daredevil reboot would have been Ben Affleck.

He has a great handle on gritty crime dramas and has been a passionate Daredevil fan since he was a kid. I think if given the chance, he could have nailed it.

i think he could def be an interesting choice. I mean.. being a fan DD is as close to his heart as imaginable... childhood, played him, and met his wife who was playing Elektra... you can't get more passionate about a superhero imo than that.

i agree i like affleck as a director but i think david slade is pretty underrated i love hard candy and i quite enjoyed 30 days of night

Has anyone here suggested Nicolas Winding Refn as a good director for the reboot?

You just did. ;)

And if Slade can't be bothered to get off his arse to get DD back in action, I'd be damn happy to see Refn take up the mantle.

From what I have seen, I also doubt that the reboot will happen, not under Fox if so. It's strange, because the writer, Brad Caleb Kane, wrote his first draft pretty quickly (seemingly under tight deadline, David Slade said that) and David Slade said that the first announcement would happen soon in the first months of 2012. and, then... nothing...

Nothing until now and David Slade, who seemed pretty enthousiastic in making the movie, is now making an Hannibal Lecter serie instead.

Something is wrong, and I bet the problem is Fox.

It already happened once with Daredevil, in 1997. At the time, J.M. De Matteis was the writer, and Chris Columbus the producer. At the time (which was before Nolan, so you have to see it in the context of the time), everyone loved the script, including Stan Lee (who said it was the best superhero movie ever, in the 1997 standart) But the project was scrapped (MSJ took some ideas from the script, that being said) and rebuilt from scratch by MSJ.

Ironically, J.M. de Matteis has just begun to post his script, which whe can see here : http://www.jmdematteis.com/2012/04/man-without-fear.html

Any good movies he directed?

He's also got another movie later this year, Argo. It's not a crime drama like his other two, but it sounds fantastic.

eh, isn't he just directing the pilot episode of the Hannibal Lecter series? that won't take up much of his time.
and you kno whow it is, there can be delays with this type of thing, for various reasons. Slade said the first few months of 2012, sounds pretty vague in the first place, so it's not like there has been some big set deadline that has expired.

In a nutshell, I doubt there has been any political studio decisions concerning the movie being scrapped, they don't want to lose a Marvel franchise, the last movie did well at the BO.

Hmmm, that's interesting, didn't know JMDeMatteis wrote a DD screenplay, I'll take a look at that one day, when i don't have a headache, haha.

I would like to see Daredevil 2 but thats not going to happen.

I hope Marvel gets the movie rights back.

I don't know about that, I mean, I'd love for them to, but

A) They won't make it anytime soon I'll bet
B) I'm not sure how I feel about him being in the MCU...like I like it but I don't at the same time.

DareDevil Reboot Looking For A New writer since they did'nt like the script at all
@elmayimbe
So as I am hitting the Tribeca party scene with visiting partyboys from L.A. and found out the following about DAREDEVIL.
@elmayimbe
The script for DAREDEVIL is wack. So wack that guess what kids, it's now an open writing assignment! They're looking for a new writer.
@elmayimbe
Hence why there is nothing going on with Daredevil. That is all.

i am relieved a bit since the old fox would of went through with it but it seems like they are turning a corner with x men and planet of the apes reboots and want to get it right this time

We shall see. I'll wait to see if they get 2 CBM movies right in a row.

I wonder if Antoine Fuqua would be interested in DD.

He can be a tad hit or miss, but Brooklyn's Finest was a pretty good film. He also took on the legend of King Arthur, so stylistically, I'm sure he'd be open to doing a superhero flick.

I think the time is right for a reboot (being almost 10 years since DD) if it was like 07 or 08 I'd want a sequel, but it feels right for a new take on the Mr. Murdock.

"Psylockolussus"...neat name:word:

You would think that with Daredevil being a more human driven supehero without the gonzo supervillians that it would be easy to look at Frank Miller's work and just adapt any of the stories.

Daredevil doesn't need big budget SFX to tell a good story.

dare devil should be marvel's batman dark realsitic and gritty it does'nt need a huge 100 million + budget

@TheInSneider
I know who ACTUALLY saved Fox's DAREDEVIL reboot with a 3-week rewrite that convinced the studio to renew its option on the rights. #OTR :)
in other news that just hired a new writer

David James Kelly Rewriting ‘Daredevil’ Reboot For David Slade

EXCLUSIVE: Not every viable Marvel Comics hero is in The Avengers. 20th Century Fox is revving a reboot of Daredevil, and the studio is setting David James Kelly to rewrite of the script, for David Slade to direct. The 30 Days of Night and Twilight Saga: Eclipse helmer became attached last year, and reports have the studio working off the Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli story arc Born Again, as The Kingpin uncovers the superhero’s secret identity, and uses it to turn blind lawyer Matt Murdoch’s life upside down. Fox, which also has the X-Men franchise and its spinoffs, also has Chronicle helmer Josh Trank working on a reboot of Fantastic Four. Kelly is repped by WME.

I have no idea who David James Kelly is, but I hope to god he's a better writer than whoever churned out the previous script.

And I hope to god they stick with Miller's "Born Again" storyline.

I still don't understand the logic of basing the storyline of a reboot on a storyline that hinges on the protagonist being already established.
