Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

Owl was being pushed as the sequel villain back in the day. Both born again, kingpin and owl actually

Wouldn't Owl be redundant after DD fighting Kingpin for couple of movies? After fighting a crime boss for a couple of movies, DD would just fight another, less interesting crime boss in a sequel? Also having Owl in Born Again seems really pointless. Again I think Owl works better as Kingpin's rival then the main villain in a sequel, he's not dynamic enough to carry a whole movie by himself.

My vision for DD's antagonist would be a reimagined Richard Fisk. Basically Light Yagami meets Lelouch Lamperouge meets Michael Corleone. Play up the Lucifer symbolism to juxtapose with the devil-themed protagonist and his Catholic upbringing.

Ummm they'd obviously have both kp and owl in the film as a rival....

Ok, but would that be the same film with the born Again story or not? Because if so, that would be too much story for one film. Besides why are discussing the sequel to a movie series that is getting rebooted anyway, if the reboot they would be going back to the drawing board. The thing is though, they only need to have one gang war story in this movie series and I think Owl would be more of an effective rival for Kingpin then his old lieutenants from the "Kingpin must die" storyline.

Going back to the drawing board to the same storyline

Going back to the drawing board to the same storyline

We really can't say that for sure, until we learn more of the storyline of the film. I hope this movie doesn't just cover the same ground of the first DD film, moving beyond the origin and the introduction of the characters. I hope Bullseye isn't the next DD movie for example.

it's going to be based on Born Again...

and FOX is stupid, but they're not stupid enough to do KP/Bullseye/Elektra again in the first film.

it's also heavily speculated that if this film actually happens, it will be more of a "hulk requelboot"

Except this film is getting a rewrite, they may change the plot entirely and go with a different story. Nothing substantial has been confirmed about this film.

... except the guy pitched "Born again" to them. So the main plot will indeed be that.

Ok, this back and fourth is rather tedious, but until plot details are brought forward, nothing is truly confirmed about this film. Films often go through several rewrites that change the nature of the original pitch.

Eh. It's gonna be based on born again. As for the details, yeah they're up in the air. But it's how the guy got the job, and fox has been pushing for the born again storyline devel times since the first movie ended. It's pretty much guaranteed. The press release upon his hiring even states it.

Make 100 million dollars. :o
Hmmm...
To review, the first movie cost about $75 mil to make (which seems relatively low compared to the most recent superhero movies), grossed a little over $175 mil worldwide (which also seems kinda low for superhero movies since then). Is that a huge hit or a minor hit?

(And I'm sure it didn't help that Elektra cost almost half as much and bombed. But that's ancient history.)

Anyway, with all this dispute about possible villains and the plot for the next movie, I can't help thinking that a TV show would be ideal for playing out the big underworld power struggle that everyone keeps trying to pare down to feature-length. Kingpin, Owl, Rose, why pick just one? :whatever:

I'm telling ya, it could be "The Wire" with superheroes.

I'm trying to make sense of the logic of throwing DareDevil's billy club and its effect on the receiving end.

In DareDevil v2 #005, Bullseye tossed the club and it pierced the torso of Karen Paige, and he was near her. That method of killing was adapted to killing Elektra's father in the movie, but at least it was from greater distance

I know some will say "DD restrains himself", but he still tosses his club hard enough, some times he does it from a height and it moves diagonally downward, the acceleration adds up in a murderous way falling down, and the hardest thing it does is barely making a mark on the target it hits, and makes him faint, DD often hits the head with the billy club, but no one ever had a crack in his skull

I hope they don't make it a weapon in Bullseye's hand if they do a reboot, nor should they do it in a game

I have only read a couple of comics with the Owl, but yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

Well, that's a bit selfish, haha, not many poeple will have read that story. eh, I say, go with the best possible storyline, and I doubt that any of the screenwriters would better Miller's.
Like most adaptations, it would inevitably play out at least slightly differently than the original comics.

Have you seen the things Miller has written lately? I think a lot of screen writers can do better then that. Also the best story is not necessarily an exact recreation of the story from the comics. Batman Begins wasn't an exact retelling of Batman Year One, but I think the use of Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul worked rather well in that story, it made the story more cinematic. I think having Owl as Kingpin's rival rather then the Kingpin's lieutenants makes for more a dramatic story, because Owl is more defined character then Kingpin's lieutenants. So that would be a change from the original story line, but I think it would work better.

Sometimes in order to get certain characters from the comics into the movies, you have to add them into existing story lines. Lady Deathstrike wasn't in "God Loves, Man Kills" but she was in X-2 and I thought that worked well. I think people who liked some of DD's Silver age storylines may want to see some of his Silver age villains and frankly this would be the best place to put the Owl in the movies.

i think it's a safe bet, like so far every Marvel film... we wont get a direct translation

Which is something I'm thankful for, even the best runs have their harsh flaws

so it looks like This film with slade is ACTUALLY COMING!!!! :whatever::whatever::whatever:

GOTCHA!, i knew this wasn't happening anytime soon

Wayfare Entertainment has set David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) to direct the upcoming psychological thriller, Villain, written by Josh Zetumer (Robocop). Wayfare Entertainment is producing and financing the film, with shooting scheduled to take place in Alaska.

Villain follows two brothers as they confront their dark past in an unforgiving wilderness. The filmmakers are currently casting for the two lead roles.

Wayfare Entertainment's Ben Browning , Sarah Shepard and Jeremy Kipp Walker will produce. Wayfare's Michael Maher will executive produce with Zetumer. Wayfare's Sarah Shepard brought the project into the company.

Browning said: "David is a brilliant director with an eye for gritty, dark thrillers. He's the perfect match for Josh's phenomenal script and we are confident that we will draw top-tier talent to the project in the coming weeks."

Wayfare Entertainment recently closed a deal to produce an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's best-selling fantasy novel The Graveyard Book for Disney. In addition, Wayfare is currently in post-production on Sebastian Cordero's The Europa Report starring Sharlto Copley, and Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales.

My ideal Daredevil movie would be a noirish one with the bleak look of Minority Report and similar with the grounded universe from TDK.I find the first Daredevil to be one of my guilty pleasures,at least the director's cut but there were a lot of moments that were just wrong like Matt figthing Elektra in the park, young Matt doing his circus thing on top of buildings.
I always thought Daredevil had potential as a movie but it seems these idiots don't have enough respect for the character to hire a good director and screenwriter to get the job done.

Can't wait for this reboot! I think in 2-3 years, it will be released.

I wish Disney/Marvel just made a move already. Seriously, offer Fox a pot of gold and get it off their hands.

Disney should want all these properties under their roof so Marvel can get back to work at making these themselves.

Also, doing Born Again in a reboot movie plot IMHO is a terrible idea. To me Born Again is a great story but it doesn't work as well for a new franchise/first movie thing when you were will be establishing and reintroducing these characters all over again.

Disney has come out and said they aren't buying back anymore properties...they have enough as it is

1) they actually said "all properties that are back, have been brought back" (that still could mean FF and DD and they're waiting to make an announcement)

2) if the rights revert.. they have nothing to "buy" back
