Now just hours before the opening of Spiderman 3 the hype for this movie is incredible. Spiderman seems to be everywhere you turn with trailers on the TV SPiderman cereal, pringle containers and countless other products. The hype reported that 94% of Fandango sales went to this movie. This led me to think about what it will be like one year from now when the Dark Knight is ready to be released. IMO BB was as good or better a movie than both Spidermans. Oviously the Hype for that movie wasnt as big because of the previous failure of past movies. But this time around will there be the same Hype for the Dark Knight that Spiderman is experiencing?

I doubt it considering the times we live in, also Batman isnt as family friendly as Spiderman is, and I dont see them going all out to advertise it for some reason.

Well, 'The Matrix Reloaded' wasn't family friendly either and look what marketing campaign there was from Warner Bros. The marketing for 'The Dark Knight' has definitely be better than the one for 'Batman Begins.'

I hope WB won't be so ass (yes, most of their movies were and are great, but I am talking about f***ing marketing damn it) with TDK and let teaser be attached to Harry Potter 5 :)

The answer is no. Sorry, but I don't think there will ever be this kind of hype for a movie directed by Christopher Nolan, even if it is a superhero movie.

I hope so, too. Warner Bros. should attach a teaser trailer to Harry Potter 5 and I hope that they'll release some official pic soon. Also, Comic Con 2007 is a MUST. The marketing campaign for The Dark Knight should really be better, Warners better go out and look for some good partners.

If the marketing campaign is same as Batman Begins', then I really don't know what I can say about Warners anymore. C'mon, it's the f'ing Batman fighting the f'ing Joker, let's make some noise. Would be nice to see them market the film like Matrix Revolutions since Batman Begins was a success.

I could not care less, myself. I like both franchises and both characters. As long as there's a good movie to back them both, I'm good.

the marketing DEFINITELY has to be pushed a LOT farther than compared to BB, but I don't really think we'll be seeing a dark, scary @$$ Joker (as I'm hoping for) on our Big Mac wrappers and super-sized cups . . .

Right, that's the most important thing. I really couldn't care less if the film's great. But it would be nice to see a great marketing campaign by Warner Bros. since it has so much potential.

Doesn't have to be Mr. J on the cups, could be Batman. Also, anyone remember the Matrix Reloaded Powerade from 2003, they could do something similar with The Dark Knight, Smilex (or Joker's) Powerade ;)

^right . . . but I'm saying they would be more likely to market other products . . . although the first Batman movies were huge marketing crutches for Warner Bros. and they ARE like one of the biggest corporate ****es around, so fast food isn't totally out of the question . . .

I doubt it considering the times we live in, also Batman isnt as family friendly as Spiderman is, and I dont see them going all out to advertise it for some reason.

Venom isn't family friendly, and he's being promoted heavily.

I think fast food will (hopefully) be part of the marketing campaign, if Warner Bros. got it. I love sitting in a McDonald's or Burger King restaurants and seeing Batman or Spider-Man or what do I know hanging on the wall or elsewhere. I don't know why, I just love it. So, Warners, get some good partners for The Dark Knight. And, damn, send Chris Nolan and the cast to the SDCC.

WB seems to suck at promoting superheroes.

I wonder if WB is preparing TDK booth for Comic Con...

I really hope they will be at SDCC, maybe showing more footage.

No, Batman will never get the same hype mainly because the franchise is a lot older with a lot more negative feelings towards it. If BB had been the first Batman movie ever made, it would have made at least $350 million domestically. Batman '89 with inflation made about $415 million domestically and the hype around it was very similar to Spider-Man. Unfortunately, Batman is going on his 6th movie and has 2 or more bad movies in the series.

The other thing is, Sony is willing to spend a ton of money marketing Spidey because the first two films made around $1.6 billion worldwide combined. They spent $258 million on SM3's production budget and then another $200+ million marketing it worldwide. They've completely saturated every market because of this strategy. They've spent $450+ million on this thing. Batman can't get that kind of money spent because it's not a lock for $750+ million worldwide. Batman Begins "only" made $371 million worldwide. SM3 will likely outgross that in the U.S. alone. But I do hope there is a big increase in hype for TDK versus BB. It could make $250+ million domestically and $400+ million worldwide.

if batman gets a marketing plan as big as superman returns was, itll open over 100 million. superman was everywehre-face and logo splattered on dozens of big products, stars on all the late night shows, trailers with all the bgi vmoies (potter, mi3, xmen 3), dozens of tv spots....

but again.

Batman can do big numbers, not Spider-Man numbers, but still, with a good marketing campaign it can be a huge hit!

Hey BB got a tv spot in one of the first chain of commercials during the superbowl

Batman doesnt lend itself to massive hype like the Spiderman movies, its not that kind of movie. The Dark Knight is going to make the majority of its money because of word of mouth just like BB did.

Oh, believe me, Batman lends itself to massive hype ;)
