The Dark Knight Rises Dark Knight Running Time almost 3 hours

Lol well yeah, only if the script is good enough for it. My only issue with TDK to this day is it didn't feel long enough at the end. I really feel TDK would have benefited from an extra 15-ish minutes. The last act, though I do enjoy it (especially that epic last 2 minutes), was definitely the sloppiest and the Two Face arc felt kind of rushed.

Now look at TDKR, looks at everything it's going to cover just from what we know. First we have several new characters being introduced, Catwoman, Bane, Blake, Tatalia, Modines character, and I mean those are just the big ones. Since when does one introduce so many major players in a grand finale?? Than we need to portray a dictators rise and take over and realistically portray how he takes over the city and than go through his entire reign and eventual fall in the end. On top of that, we have Bruce's return as Batman for the first time in years, only to get thrown into a prison. The prison part isn't going to be done with in just 10 minutes. That should be pretty drawn out. His eventually escape will take time. THAN, he needs to come back to Gotham for the final act and create an army and take back the city from the dictator etc etc... how the hell can Nolan do all that without anything feeling rushed if it's under 3 hours? I can't see how.

I don't know because when it all comes down to it, i don't mind seeing less of all the other aspects as long as Bruce Wayne is kept front and center.

Finally! At last, a 2:45 running time for a superhero movie. This had better set a standard for future super hero films. EPIC LENGTH, with a combination of taut action sequences and compelling dramatic narratives and character development, is absolutely the right path to take when creating these films. Comicbook films can be the modern Laurence of Arabias and Close Encounters, if taken seriously by the film producers and studio executives. The era of treating Batman like the 60s show is done. Let it alone. Don't bring it back!

Not surprising Superman Returns was that long. Uncut the movie was running well into 3hrs.

Editing has never been Nolan's strong suit, not to say it's downright terrible, but the first two films are really brimming with content, there are times where i wish it would just slow down and stop being so busy. So I have no doubts that everything would fit in 2 and a half hours, but my main concern is how much time is devoted to Bruce Wayne. This seems to be his story, so i hope time is given to him in favor of everyone else.

Again I don't think that runtime is confirmed. Nolan said they aren't even finished with it yet at the awards, and this isn't the first time a well regarded website had a representative "confirm" a runtime is right... remember the shorter one on fandango? I don't believe a thing until it's on the WB executive site, sorry.

the pack a lot into the script/storyline. Sometimes the best editing in the world can't cut certain things down if the content has to be there.

Now that's a good sign! t: Nolan meant what he said at the awards when he announced its not quite finished yet. He's gonna make it longer to fit the full circle of the Dark Knight Trilogy. I can't wait to get the tickets and find out the runningtime. I'ed say it would have to be 3 hours and 10 mins. That's just a guess on my part, but one can hope and I ain't the only one. lol

If I had my way, there would be no public idea of how long a film 'should' be. It should take as long as it takes to tell the story. 90, 190, 590, I don't care how many minutes there are, I just want it to be good

Have faith in Nolan guys, he won't fail. He's come to far for us to not fail for the sake of a hero's story and his legend to arise in a new era of batfans all over the world. Bob Kane would be so proud to see how much of a phenomena his character he created 73 years ago has become and he's made him into an epic legend like no other fictional character as ever made it that far in the past, present and future. ^_^

Anyways I trust that Nolan will pace the movie well and give enough development to Bruce and the rest of the characters. I remember when TDK came out everybody was praising Nolan for giving enough character development to characters like Harvey Dent unlike Raimi did for SP3 and Eddie Brock.

P.S. I will be there in IMAX on opening night thanks to scoring screening tickets to the prologue in December. We were allowed to buy our midnight IMAX tickets early. I remember when I received this glorious email.

A technical issue like that is something that's important and in mind, but not a word-of-god in this case. 2h 45m is probably what he was happy with IMAX or no IMAX. Luckily it just fits on one IMAX reel.

Something that is over 3 hrs long with a 15-20 minute intermission is just asking for too much to me. It takes you out of the flow. I believe they want repeat visits to the movie and that might turn some people off from doing that. I just think that since it is exactly 2hrs and 45 minutes means Nolan at least had to keep the IMAX limitation in mind.

But again, if the settled cut is longer than that, and you're talking a major cut of a scene or such that you didn't want to cut at all...just to make that running length...it's just not enough to compromise this film from someone of this level and for this event. IMAX is important, of course, but it's also still not the majority of the screenings and revenue generation for this film...of which a running limit of 170m does not apply. So that cut will, in the opinion of the filmmaker, compromise the movie everywhere it plays...just to fit it into one IMAX reel when they can do an intermission-version instead.

I'm sure he kept it in mind, but it probably wasn't an actual decision maker past something that could shave a few seconds or a minute in credits or trimming some longer establishing shots, at most. And honestly, that's even less likely than missing that 170m by several minutes. If he they had to, the'd go with an intermission...and people would probably be at least a little better with a break in watching the event of the final Nolan Batman film, than what was even a 3D version of what's perhaps the most overexposed (release-wise) movie in history in Titanic.

Being exactly 2:45 more likely means that if anything was shaved to meet that time, it was pretty minor and small.

It's definitely a valid concern....but sensibly, the size and 'event' of this movie would more than make up for the minor added down-tme of an intermission. I.e...it would seem worth it in this case.

But thankfully, it looks like they won't have to worry about that anyway.

They had intervals for both Titanic (back in 97) and ROTK, and I don't recall them flopping at the box office. Don't mind a whizz halfway through a long film.
