The Dark Knight Rises Dark Knight Running Time almost 3 hours

But again, if the settled cut is longer than that, and you're talking a major cut of a scene or such that you didn't want to cut at all...just to make that running length...it's just not enough to compromise this film from someone of this level and for this event. IMAX is important, of course, but it's also still not the majority of the screenings and revenue generation for this film...of which a running limit of 170m does not apply. So that cut will, in the opinion of the filmmaker, compromise the movie everywhere it plays...just to fit it into one IMAX reel when they can do an intermission-version instead.

I'm sure he kept it in mind, but it probably wasn't an actual decision maker past something that could shave a few seconds or a minute in credits or trimming some longer establishing shots, at most. And honestly, that's even less likely than missing that 170m by several minutes. If he they had to, the'd go with an intermission...and people would probably be at least a little better with a break in watching the event of the final Nolan Batman film, than what was even a 3D version of what's perhaps the most overexposed (release-wise) movie in history in Titanic.

Being exactly 2:45 more likely means that if anything was shaved to meet that time, it was pretty minor and small.

I didn't mean that the movie was filmed over 3 hours and cut down a lot to get to 2:45. I meant that from the beginning it was probably agreed upon to keep it at the max 2:45 instead of going over so they planned, wrote, and filmed accordingly.

"almost 3 hours"... Uhh. There's quite a difference from 2:45 to 3:00 hours - It's called 15 minutes!

But a 2:45 hour batman finale is so sweet! But seriously. Is the "official" running time of 2:45 110% the truth? Can we really count on that? Or could WB suddenly pull out a rabbit and say "WRONG! It's 3 hours!"???

It was definitely something to watch out for, and something they would have wished to keep it under. But you never really know until you're done editing no matter how accurately you think you write/plan/film, and if his final cut turned out to be 2:56, it'd stay 2:56 and IMAX would do an intermission like they do with other movies that go beyond one reel. Simple.

I realize you're trying to portray it as something that was 'stuck to' from the start but it just doesn't work that way. You don't know until you're done, and what kind of say you have over screening time.

No worries. Just guessing. Of course the only people who truly know are Christopher Nolan and the film makers. I just thought it was too much of a coincident to have a 2 hr 45 min limitation on IMAX and the movie has been said to be exactly 2hr and 45 mins.

It sounds that way, yeah...and if it did just happen to fall on that length I'm sure there were some bemused 'Whew"s. But sometimes it does just happen to turn out that way. They weren't going to limit this last mega-movie with something technical like that by ordering a hard ceiling of running time, and it's not like Nolan and crew were going to limit themselves to that either. Filmmakers with not as much pull and what not, sure they can be held to stuff like that and are often even held to a 2hr ceiling.

As people have said, I think Nolan does a lot of his editing in the script stage. Based on what Wally said in that interview prior to shooting, I'm betting Nolan knew that the current draft was a 3 hour+ movie and figured it could probably use some trimming. So I don't think they knew for sure if it was going to be over or under, but I'm betting they were shooting for something in the ballpark of 2:40ish and hoping for the best.

So has it been officially confirmed by the WB that the RT is going to be 2:45?

Here's to hoping we get a 3 hr runtime Bluray lol

The info at the Navy Pier IMAX site said 150 mins.

I don't think it's been officially confirmed, only some cinema chains are listing it as this, but then again there were a lot of other supposed runtimes. However, take into account the time between showings that are announced and 2:45 seems likely.

It's 2:45...give or take a few minutes. Isn't that close enough?

The theater I go to says 2 hours 45 minutes. They're never wrong about run times. Trust me.

Yeah. What a beautiful run time to have. Imagine all of the scenes in there we've seen completely nothing of. And the scenes like Batman versus Bane in the sewers where we've seen only tiny snippets. Very exciting.

I love how long the run time is. The thing I'm not really looking forward to, is driving an hour back home after that. This means i'll be arriving in my bed around 4AM.....:meanie:

The Dark Knight might have pacing problems if you try to apply a classic 3-act structure to it. But when you realise the film has a 5-act tragic structure, it becomes clear that it's paced perfectly.

I'm actually REALLY interested in hearing this broken down just a bit.

And then you won't be able to sleep after witnessing that spectacle, time to get on SHH :P

2 hours and 45 minutes sounds just perfect. I mean, really. For some reason, it sounds like THE ideal time for TDKR...

Guys,

When I was buying my tickets at my local Cineplex (Coliseum Mississauga, for those of you in the GTA), the manager who works there, who happens to be a buddy of mine, confirmed that the 2 hour and 45 minute running time is official. It came straight from WB in the information they sent out for event planning purposes prior to distribution.

Additionally, a quick search online shows that every major theater chain is now reporting 165 minutes. BFI, AMC, Cineplex, Allocine... It doesn't get any more official...

...Unless, of course, you go straight to the official TDKR Imax website: http://www.imax.com/movies/m/the-dark-knight-rises-the-imax-experience/

Release Date: July 20, 2012. Rated: PG-13. Runtime: 165 min. Studio: Warner Bros..

Yeah I think it's pretty much safe to say that 165 minutes is the official running time.

2h45 is the best for me

i cant wait see the movie
1month :'(
