Dark Souls II

Wish they woulda put this on the new consoles. I played the other two and while I found them overrated I still enjoyed em. I'm prob gonna get this when it goes on sale. Demons and Dark Souls both could be found for great prices not long after launch so hopefully this is the same.

From Software is a small studio right? That can be the only reason I can see any developer at this point not porting every title made to the next gen consoles. But it does make you wonder considering this is on Windows, why they haven't as the new consoles are supposedly more in line with a PC, making the transition easier than it has been before

Im not getting the game but it is a missed opportunity as I know many including myself that are done purchasing PS3/360 games. My final purchase was actually FF X/X-2 HD but Ive been waiting on that for years

Ergggg UPS needs to hurry up!

This isn't even the most obvious reason. Dark Souls is more of a niche title, more popular than the usual cult fare sure, but still it's following isn't on the level of most cross gen games. Probably not seen as worth the effort to port to systems that have a relatively low install base for a series that's fanbase is already on a relatively low side.

Yea thats a good point.

Wish they woulda just made the damn XB1/PS4 backwards compatible.

I would not call it "niche" Dark Souls sold around 2.9 million units, and that could go up to 3 eventually. But that's more then Infamous or some other games that have recognizable names. I'm not saying they are COD kind of games, but even though not as many can handle a Souls game, they still have quite a following.

Dark/Demons Souls is a pretty niche title, 3 million sales or not. It just happens to be a very well made niche title, but it absolutely doesnt have the broad appeal that other titles in its category do.

Yes it is not as broad as others but the sales still speak for themselves. Demon Souls was kinda the testing ground and Dark Souls was the first real more so popular version. Most originals start out slow anyways and can gain momentum. You look at COD4 sales compared to the latest it's almost 3 times as much. Titanfall 2 will probably sell much more then the original once the word gets out more and more and more.

My point being I do agree Souls is more of a niche thing, but it's a growing niche, and starting to become something of itself. Sales do matter it's the money that's brought in. Dark Souls 2 could sell even more. I do agree it will never have the broad appeal of possibly Skyrim type sales, but it's a growing number. But even games like Dragon Age that has broader appeal still sold just a little bit above. The Witcher 2 sold a million less then Dark Souls did. And I would not call that a super niche title.

There could be a point where if niche gets popular enough it stops being as "niche". But the sales are really good for this. And if Dark Souls 2 goes farther in sales then the original that may say that the steam may continue to grow. Now do I think will it grow to pure mainstream? No. I could see it capping around 5 million if that. But sales are still a big deal, and the question remains when does that stop being "niche" and start becoming just a genre in itself?

I only got to play about an hour of this last night, but it seems great so far. They did a lot of smart improvements, especially to the menu systems. Can't wait to get lost in it further this weekend.

I started playing it last night, and died in the 1st few seconds by walking off a cliff......lol.

My first death was at the jumping tutorial stone. I am too used to pressing O to jump, so trying to click in the stick I just walked right off the side. I switched it to the O button right after that.

also, is there some kind of map or navigation system or "destination marker" that helps guide you?

after talking to those old ladies in the hut at the beginning, where am I supposed to go next?

I just started wandering around............lol

No map, no marker. There is another door in the hut that leads into the tutorial area.

In Dark Souls you jumped by tapping the run button while running. In DSII it's set to clicking in the left stick by default (which I was not a fan of).

ah, thanks.

I think I was pushing the right stick......maybe that's why I couldn't jump......lol

oh, and what's the best class to start with?

I started as a Swordsman, but it seems you can't block while dual wielding?

how is the Sorcerer class?

Can you start as a Sorcerer and build her into a mage/knight hybrid (battlemage)?

Classes just effect your starting stats and equipment. You'll get access to all the equipment, spells, armor, etc.. during your playthrough and can use whatever you want as long as you have the right stats. So I wouldn't worry too much about wanting to start over to try something new, you can make them whatever you want.

That said, if you are new to this, a Sorcerer is a good choice. They start with the Soul Arrow spell which has always been a powerful spell in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, it's a good ranged spell that can help you out early on.

thanks!!

and yes, I am new to the DS games. I tried playing the other DS games but never got that into them ( or very far ).

I'm still holding out hope for a ps4 version in the future before buying this. And of course I still have to beat the first dark souls.

I wasn't aware it was that high a seller, so your right in saying that niche probably isn't the right word. But still, I think the point is still valid enough.

I waited too long to order from Amazon and they sold out, now they're there's a third party selling through them, but they're overcharging. :/

At this point, I might just wait for the PC version. Of course there's no guarantee that it will be a good port.

So Im about 3 hours in…probably about 20 deaths, LOL, that's Dark Souls for ya.
Pretty darn good overall and enjoying the refinements. Watch your back though, this game has a tendency to have enemies pop up behind you when you least expect it.
