Fox Searchlight has released five videos from The Wrestler press conference at the New York Film Festival. A lot of it was covered in our extensive three-part interview with Aronofksy last month (you can read there here, here, and here) but there are some juicy bits that make these worth watching. Plus, its fun to hear Mickey talk about his preparation for the film. Check the videos out after the jump.

I love Aronofskys face when he discovers Tomei's been taking shots during takes.

awesome videos  i hope this brings some new respect to the business for some people

is it really so hard to fix hes face? in the 80's they made M jackson look likea women. and now they can not make him look normal again?

dude, i don't know, but rourke's face is like, beyond ****ed up. i mean, when he was marv in sin city, he looked BETTER. and marv's head is a cinder block.

yeah...rourke is all lumpy and puffy. he looks like garbage. but for this role...it works =D

That's the result of a couple of cosmetic surgery operations gone bad.

Well Rourke also boxed so his face took a ton of damage. I also read a report that he has some sort of disease that effects his face.

i know that. but is hes face just gona fell apart in the next years?

there has to be something to fix. it works for this movie. but who would hire him for a normal role?

after the sure Oscar nomination for the Wrestler, I don't think he'll have problems finding roles.
Anyway he's also in "The Informers" with his old friend Kim Basinger.

Two Video Clips from The Wrestler

/Film reader Nick O. forwarded me these clips from Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. The first clip shows a scene between Mickey Rourke and Evan Rachel Wood, who play’s Randy’s estranged daughter. Rourke has been getting Best Actor Award Nomination buzz since the film premiered in Venice.

The second clip gives you a little taste of the wrestling action. Randy “The Ram” Robinson takes on The Ayatollah (Ernest “The Cat” Miller) in a 20th anniversary rematch of their “epic” match at WrestleSalm IV in 1988. Imagine if The Iron Sheik and Macho Man were reduced to doing a rematch of the wrestling match that was the pinnacle of their career, but at a small independent fan fest show in front of only a couple hundred people. As you can imagine, both wrestlers aren’t exactly on the top of their game. The footage was taken from an international television review of The Wrestler, so there is Spanish commentary over the entire clip, which of course isn’t in the actual film.

The Wrestler hits theaters on December 19th 2008.

For any Brits on here Mickey Rourke is going to be on the Graham Norton show next week so hopefully they talk about The Wrestler on it.

I highly doubt his boxing career had anything to do with how ravaged his face is today. He didn't do it for all that long, and managed to go undefeated as a pro. I think he retired with a record in the neighborhood of 8-0-1 against a bunch of scrubs.

Oscar De La Hoya has been fighting at the highest level for almost two decades, and he's still breaking pay-per-view records with his good looks as his skills inevitably diminishes. Hell, Muhammad Ali has been punched in the face so many times that he now has severe brain damage. But he's as pretty as ever.

I think Mickey's mug is mostly a result of bad surgery.

THE WRESTLER

At first glance, The Wrestler sounds like the kind of movie Michael Lerner's 1940s studio executive in Barton Fink would've made. But don't worry — this is nothing like a Wallace Beery wrestling picture. Darren Aronofsky's first film since 2006's time-travel head trip The Fountain, The Wrestler stars Mickey Rourke as a washed-up '80s relic seeking redemption. Sounds like art imitating life? You bet. Rourke even boxed professionally for several years in the early '90s.

I like combat sport, boxing, wrestling, etc., but ah Mickey Rourke a wrestler? Isn't he like 5ft'8inches and a buck 60 weight> right? and in his mid 50's, right? Naw that's not him in the picture above..Why not Hulk Hogan for this film? BUT MICKY ROURKE? naw I'll pass..LOL!

The sounds pretty bad but here's Springsteens song for the movie.

New Photos: Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler

Fox Searchlight has released three new production photos from Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. The first of which features Oscar hopeful Mickey Rourke as Randy “The Ram” Robinson jumping off the top rope at a small independent wrestling event. Below we see Aronofsky on set, and judging by his beard (which he traditionally grows out throughout production) the photo was likely taken during the middle of production. And the third photo below shows Marisa Tomei as Cassidy, Randy’s stripper friend, who as you can see looks a lot different outside of the strip club.
