Actually, the "Whe fight back" thing is not exactly a big deal. Remember trailer 3, when Gort destroy the jets that we're trying to destroy him? Technicly, that was a "Whe fight back" moment. :yay: The sphere landed, the jets attacked, Gort came out and got ape-**** on their metal arsses.

They can be using moments like that to use the "Whe fight back" add without be making false marketing.

That's not the problem. The problem is that they've made it look like this is an EVIL ALIEN INVASION movie where the earth has to make a stand and fight back against the evil aliens like ID4.

No, a number of the spots feature Keanu saying if we live the Earth dies, you are so biased it's awful to see, you are not stupid, you know ppl do not want trailers where the through line is "Hey we suck as a race so we deserve to be threatened with extinction by a huge robot and Neo" Please! :whatever:
Movies are for messages, trailers are a 2 minute window to get ppl to think they are gonna see something thrilling, not a Green Planet lecture.

Then the marketing for this movie = ep1c fail.

Marketing for Dragon Ball movie = non-existent.

w/e marketing gets asses in seats(regardless of whether it shows how the movie will really be) = epic win

i wouldnt say "hokey" but yes, that's about right. i'm a very visual person and the old effects are an eye soar to me and it prevents me from taking the movies seriously.

I know what you mean, I like black and white thrillers a lot, but with sci fi where effects are such a dominant part of the movie, I find these really old movies hard to get into.

Well then, I'm happy all that is settled. Hopefully we can get back on track now.

I think the film has potential to be great. I'm waiting my judgement until I actually see it for myself. I feel as long as I don't go in with high expectations, I should be pleasantly surprised.

Who here has actually seen the original 50s version? I've never gotten around to seeing it and was wondering how good a movie it is. Is it comparable to the 50s version of War of the Worlds? (which is the oldest sci-fi movie I've ever seen)

I have. It's not colorized and not nearly as large in scope, but it's got a similar vibe. As a film, I thought it was pretty good. It's a bit overly reliant on drama, but it has a point to make about humanity and the dangers of our reckless behavior that's endured to today.

and klaatu being jesus-like

well, i can't be sure, but from what i've heard and read they're trying to stay as close to the original as possible. for instance, there were rumors that Gort wouldn't be in it, but we all know he is. there were similar rumors about 'Klaatu Barada Nikto'. if it turns out that they departed significantly then i might give the original movie another try. it took me 3 rentals to finally complete the original King Kong so maybe i need to do the same for the original TDTESS....but again, i'm an effects guy so please understand if it's hard for me to watch movies with out of date special effects.

btw, my apologies for offending anyone's love for the original with my "too damn old" comments.

I haven't seen the original, but does the Army of Darkness line 'Klaatu Barada Nikto' actually come from this movie? If so, that's hilarious!

That's so awesome. It makes me even more excited to see this.

Of course I know that. Which is why this movie will fail. And why Fox shouldn't have made it.

Movies are for messages, trailers are a 2 minute window to get ppl to think they are gonna see something thrilling, not a Green Planet lecture.

When a trailer makes a movie, especially a tentpole, look like something it's not. Audience backlash tends to run high.

There might well be some "invasion" elements to this movie. There are clearly things in it that weren't in the original film. Who's to say how close they've stuck to the original?

Where are the reviews for this thing? Wait..it's Fox. Nevermind.

According to british board of film classification the movie is around 104 minutes long.

Now before people start complaining don't forget I am legend was only 100 minutes long when it released in theatres.

Once again, the inherent problem of bad remakes.

why would we complain?... thats longer than the original film lol

Some here are talking about backlash over the marketing of the movie... so, think in 1951. Anyone who saw the original really SAW the scene below? :cwink:

But... "I Am Legend" sucked. It had nothing to do with its running time, but still...

Really? Ugh, it felt much longer.
