Nightcrawler's age In X2 was unknown so no problem In altered timeline for him showing up In 1980's.

Basically, it's acknowledged that the original timeline existed within the new one. Where they are in 2023 is all because of what happened in the original timeline and because they know that Wolverine had been sent from that timeline to change it.

I loved how they did that, but I'm not going to say how because you need to see how that scene plays out and I don't want to spoil it. It's just a really great scene.

It appears that they didn't, but the ending leaves the impression that many new things did, which is basically the setup for Apocalypse.

That's exactly what it means. Again, based on reports, only Xavier and Wolverine of 2023 remember the original timeline. Erik, Raven, Xavier, and Beast of 1973 know of the original timeline because of what 2023 Logan has told them...but they are not defined by it. They can make their own way (alone with the franchise.)

This film is the full on reboot of the franchise.

Last Stand has been erased along with X1 and X2, but birthdates for characters should stay the same (!!!!!).

X-men,X2,and the wolverine are the important ones leading up to wolverine's mission In Days of future past.

Obviously Apocalypse and future films won't lead Into events of X-Men,X2,and The Wolverine.

It's cool to alter the timeline, but only if you consider all the X-movies as being part of the Original Timeline continuity.

What about "The Wolverine"? It makes reference to Jean Grey's death anyway.
What about the fact Logan is surprised to see Scott alive at the end of DOFP?

this.

They are in continuity. Hence the reason certain cast members are back. This film doesn't work on an emotional level if those original films didn't exist.

What this film truly does, it seems, is to create a new continuity for the franchise for here on out that it's not beholden to what came before it, ie the original trilogy.

When Donner said that she wanted to introduce young Storm, Scott, and Jean in Apocalypse, what she means is that she wants to see how they formed the first group of X-Men but they don't/won't be beholden to how they formed in the original timeline.

In a business sense, what it means is that they can tell young Scott, Jean, and Storm films all over again in a different way and go from there.

it does make me curious as to when the wolvie sequel will be placed... it would be nice to fill the void of post The Wolverine and Pre-DOFP but that could get very confusing because it may have to choose what timeline it's showing...

Scott could have died at any point after X2. He could bw one of the 'friends' Logan referred to watching die in the trailer. In fact, presuming most everyone is dead in the future by the time DOFP opens, he should be surprised to see anyonealive at the end.
