The DC board's been pretty dead lately, so I figured a semi-regularly updated thread might liven things up. Newsarama and other places post previews of upcoming DC comics, and everybody loves discussing previews, right? So here you go. Feel free to post any previews I miss (and there'll probably be a lot, since I don't frequent comic news websites other than Newsarama much).

Newsarama's previews for 2/13: GLC #21, JLA Classified #52, and Salvation Run #4

GLC looks pretty sweet. I've been hearing talk of the Alpha Lanterns for a couple weeks thanks to GL, but I don't read GL so this will be my first exposure to them. Right off the bat, they seem like *****, but as they're supposed to be the IAD of the Corps, that makes a lot of sense; no cop on any cop show I've ever seen likes any Internal Affairs guys.

Salvation Run is probably the comic I'm most looking forward to out of this bunch. The big reveal of Martian Manhunter last issue got me super-excited. I love that they're using J'onn for a lot of covert ops stuff lately, and his new costume is steadily growing on me.

Also, now that I've seen No Country for Old Men, I keep reading Bane with Javier Bardem's voice and he seems a lot scarier... :ninja:

I have the bootleg, but I still haven't looked at it.

That guys a great actor. I saw him play some gay writer in communist Cuba trying to make it out after Castro took over. I forget the name though.

Weird; GL Corps is solicited for Tomasi, but actually written by Gates.

I'll have to see what the heck the issue is actually about before buying it. Dunno if I'm interested enough in the Alpha Lanterns to chance an untested writer on the concept.

I hope it's not just all Alpha Lanterns all the time. Guy and Kyle are the stars of the book, so they should at least appear.

Well I'm sure they'll be doing something. And if it were Tomasi, I'd totally just buy it without a second thought. But never for a new writer, much less one I've never heard of.

J'onn's new costume is so good, I don't even LIKE his old one anymore. I would have kept the round head, though.

The amount that his new costume covers does kind of make his old seem pretty ridiculous. I always wondered why the Martian Manhunter was running around semi-nude, but the new costume really makes it stick out.

And I like the pointy head, myself. I just wish they'd quit giving him a Skrull chin.

Its just a fill-in for 2 issues.

It's a pretty great movie.
Am I the only one who thought it was hugely anticlimactic? I mean, it had one of the greatest rising actions that I've seen in a movie's plot for a long time, but there didn't seem to be any real climax (insert innuendo here), because the hero and villain [BLACKOUT]never actually get to have their "final showdown," for lack of a better term.[/BLACKOUT]

Cool GLC preview. MANHUNTERS!? Whenever there is a group of Manhunters, there's has to be... HANK HENSHAW! Come on back to the living you crazy-death-wishing Cyborg Superman! They need to do something so that they can't keep blowing him up like Red Tornado. He has to be built with some more sturdy metals maybe.

Or they could just kill his tired ass once and for all and be done with it. That'd be great.

That's kind of the point, dude. The "hero" dies and the guy slightly left of center gets the climax by coming to a realization about some of life's truths.

J'ohnn J'ohnn's turn in Salvation was so obvious from the teaser. Shank em Manhunter! lol

Escaping one Castro so he can go to another?

Meh. After setting up the two main characters as being such badasses, and after their conversation over the phone, I felt completely let down by seeing no resolution to that buildup. But that's just me.

Well, it's a very nontraditional movie. Part of why it's such a critical darling is that it turns a lot of the conventions of film narratives on their head. Great for moviephiles who are jaded from watching every film under the sun, not as satisfying for casual moviegoers. Still, even though I'd count myself firmly among the latter, I enjoyed it in spite of its super-twisty, anticlimactic end. A good, well executed anticlimax can be just as good as a good climax for me.

Hal's face is great in that panel before the bubble passes by. :)

If I didn't just get my new avatar, I'd have one with just that face. The expression is like something you'd find on a teenage girl's MySpace. :o

Your current one is far superior. The only thing better would be Megatron with his ducky.

I pray Johns doesn't retcon anything in this, like make it clear Hal is posessed by a yellow fear bug. He should just write it exactly like the time.

Well, someone else can have Hal, then:
