DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 6

Haha, that would be pretty stupid. Its not really an issue, I just prefer the blue V, so I thought i'd b**** about it for a second. It in no way affects me buying the title or not. I generally buy books based on who the writer is. I just found this book kind of...ok. I'm still on the fence, but I'll probably get issue two.
Oh good. I respect you more now.

And agree on all points. I like red, but I must say I preferred the blue too.

As for the Nightwing series... Yeah, you can just have "good" titles. But the problem for me is, I don't like Dick nearly enough to spend money on a merely "good" title featuring him. It has to be mind blowingly awesome to keep me intrigued with him.

Yea, with so many titles piquing my interesting if any comic that was only "good" doesn't become at least "great" by issue 2 or 3 I may have to drop. Gets expensive otherwise.

Nightwing was good enough, but my brain just kept saying "Too bad he's not Batman."

Dick should have remained Batman.

No, he shouldn't. Batman is the man he was obligated to be in honor of Bruce and to prevent people like Jason Todd from twisting the symbol to suit his own purposes. Nightwing is the man Dick chooses to be. Always has been. It's not regression, it's him being true to himself now that the obligation of Bruce's absence is lifted.

In December there is going to be a Ray title! It's written by Gray and Palmiotti!

Oh it's not Ray Terrill... Awww

:(

Nightwing is the man Dick chooses to be.
Batman was no less "the man he chooses to be" than Nightwing, it was simply a choice informed by different factors--it was Dick playing a different role, and a bigger role.

It's not regression,
Becoming Nightwing isn't a regression, but taking on a smaller role is. While exactly what Nightwing's position in Gotham is has not yet been fleshed out, well, the implications are pretty clear--even though some of them are out of the hands of the writer. Nightwing isn't going to be leading the Justice League any time soon, nor is he going to be training sidekicks, and he's not likely to be the guy Gordon calls on when the city's about to blow up.

Bottom line, it feels like Dick has been put back in his old box. With the exception of a few lines of monologue, every little bit of Nightwing #1 could have been in Nightwing (volume one) #155. Obviously I won't write this off based on one issue, but the issue in question is a cause for concern.

Just as an addendum to my above post, here's the number one thing I would have done differently in Nightwing #1: no "Well, I need a signal too" line, because that implies that his role in Gotham has changed--because he's no longer going to be answering the batsignal.

Instead, I would have had Nightwing answer the batsignal. That's that he would have done a month ago, right? I would show the audience that even though he's Nightwing again, nothing has changed. He's still playing the same role in the city. Gordon wouldn't bat an eye, there would be no implication that Nightwing wasn't the guy he was looking to call--because Nightwing is the guy he's been calling for a year now.

That would have been the number one thing to do on my list. I also may not have moved him out of Wayne Tower, but if I did move him, it would be into a location that reflects his newfound prominence in the city (even as Dick Grayson, he's been the face of the Wayne family and in the public eye for a while now). I also would have highlighted the crimefighting side of his new location--but I imagine Higgins will do that soon anyway.

Also, I'd probably give him a utility belt. The reduced loadout on the Nightwing costume should feel too "bare bones" to him after a year of having the magical belt of everything at his disposal.

You seriously would have lost respect for someone over Nightwing of all things?

That's stupid.

All I can say is that Batman # 1 is easily the best of the DC books I've read thus far. Snyder continues to prove to be a GREAT Batman writer and Capullo was absolutely amazing in the artwork department. This was a really well written first issue. If someone picked this up and didn't really know too much about Batman it was very accessible. You had all the basics covered and Snyder had a nice clever way of going over the different villains. Some neat twists and a very interesting mystery to end the book. Great all around. I highly suggest picking this book up if you're any kind of fan of Batman. On the fence about this DC relaunch? No need to sit on that fence because you should buy this book!

I got around to checking out Demon Knights, Grifter, and DC Universe Presents. Not very impressed with Grifter at all. The artwork was pretty sweet but the story just really didn't grab me. Did Grifter not remind everybody of Sawyer from Lost? DC Universe Presents was pretty good. I'm definitely coming back for the second issue. Don't know too much about Deadman and a good introduction to the character and I enjoy the premise so far. Demon Knights is definitely another huge sleeper hit for me. I'll definitely be grabbing this book. A very fun and interesting story and the artwork is very fitting for the book.

Grifter was like Sawyer? Hmm I'm interested in that book now.

In my opinion, I think that they should have taken a middle ground with Nightwing. I agree with Corp in that Nightwing is the man that Dick chooses to be, he never wanted the mantle of Batman to begin with.

However, I agree with Saint that there should be reflections of Dick's time as Batman. I think that Dick should have remained in the Penthouse, he's the successor of Bruce Wayne in every way and should act as such, and he should still use the Bat Bunker. Or have him with the extremely close relationship to Gordon since Gordon pretty much admitted to him, not Bruce that he knows everything, or that the GCPD prefers working with him over Bruce.

Read Batman #1 and Batman & Robin #1 finally. I enjoyed Batman & Robin more for me but overall they both didn't do much for me. Probably because The Bat mythos aren't affected by this reboot. But I haven't read a Bat Book since Morrison got on board. And I'd say I enjoyed B&R mainly because of Damian interacting with Bruce. It's not a reflection of Snyder on Batman because I do want to see what the craze is with his former Dick story with The Black Mirror or w/e it's called...but there's nothing different about Batman for me to care in the Batman title. In the B&R title at least it's Damian finally interacting with his father and the whole "embrace my parents wedding day instead" which was cool.

Im honestly enjoying a lot of these titles quite a bit. This relaunch has been sweet for me.

Ted Kord got wiped from existence....f**k this reboot.

Yeah...I like that idea a lot.

Honestly, I think I'd be more into his series if it had those aspects included.

The first issue did feel like a regression. Not because he wasn't Batman. But because he seemed to almost be right back to where he started in the first Nightwing #1.

Having some type of continuation of his time as Batman would've been a good idea. And come to think of it, they should probably still develop his relationship with Damian some more. I mean, Dick has helped Damian way more than Bruce has.

You can get better from dead.

Wiped from existence means that's it for seeing him show up in the dcu proper ever again.

At best he'll show up on some random Earth in Multiversity for an issue whenever the f**k THAT gets made.

It's a boos**t move.

 I agree. I love Ted. I was sad when he was killed. :csad: I guess all those hilarious moments with Booster Gold never happened. His time working with BoP never happened.

I've been reading the #1's I missed from the first week and I just... DC disappoints me. They handled this reboot all wrong. Go big or go home and they are so wishy washy about who's rebooted, who's not, etc. Maybe Ted is on one of the THOUSAND different worlds/universes they just reopened again?

but the Ted thing.. pisses. me. off.
