DC to "Rebirth" in June - Part 1

So it took the Dark Knight III for Miller to finally admit that Superman was holding back all this time on Batman and could've kicked his butt anytime he wanted too.

And since when was this a secret?
60 year old Bruce in a heavy suit vs Superman...was there ever a question?

Its clear as day that Bruce only "won" because of the Kryptonite.

EDIT:

Just finished Batman 24...yeah it feels out of place and OOC.
But im still waiting where this goes, it looks like this is the starting point of a new arc and im willing to give it a shot.
But at the moment, this makes little sense with what Tom King has built up and had no real build-up to this.
I liked the art and
i liked the whole part with Gotham Girl and Bruce overall.

Everything else needs to be seen.

The art in Batman#24 was gorgeous!

Also, Aquaman was amazing. What a consistently good book!

This week is a new Aquaman? Hell yeah...cant wait for it.
The Current arc has me on the edge of my seat, the Aquaman books are really outstanding.
Cant wait to read Aquaman 24.

That's an interesting take. I feel like this is a natural response to the Thomas Wayne advice to Bruce during The Button.

Funny and to your point, though, I think King has been bad about building this up. The Flash has had a few throwaway lines that has built this up better than King has.

Like we all didn't already know that? :cwink:

Been a while, but I thought that was fairly obvious in the story itself, no...?

Oh it was never question to me. It was just a question IMO of when Miller might finally be able to admit that to himself and then say it out loud.

Even if he uses the button story...to me that is not enough.
That is hardly build-up that makes sense for something this huge.

What makes it so strange, is that he actually had the chance to build it up right.
His run started with the story of gotham girl and her brother, there he gave us the idea that bruce might be able to stop being batman...but in the same arc, he burned the idea again and showed us that there needs to be a batman.
Now he suddenly comes up with the possibility again, when all his storys afterwards...could have been written with this idea behind it.
The idea that the chance is there for bruce to stop one day.

The second one is that many of his arcs involved conflict in the family, which makes this decision a bit weird also from that angle.
Tim, Cassandra, Gotham Girl and her brother(yeah i forgot his name), Stephanie...all have suffered by being close to bruce.

And third, there was barely anything about Bruce/Selina themself.
Even batman 24 is more about Bruce than him AND Selina.
They barely had anything to do in Kings run so far, there was nothing special or groundbreaking in their interactions so far.

Either way, Batman 24 does what it should, it gets people to talk about it.
I have many thoughts about this because despite everything, its something big in the Batman universe no matter the outcome.

Oh yeah, it was just a matter of time before Millers cynical side would throw it out there full force. :D

Batman 24 was quite the ride for me. I've never seen Bruce so emotionally vulnerable (bear in mind, only starting DC Comics regularly with Rebirth) and while the proposal ending caught me off guard initially, I thought back to what Thomas said to Bruce about stop being Batman. It fits, when you take that exchange into context.

My second favourite moment from last week's pull though would be Green Lanterns, when Baz gets the drop on Kyle; "Ok smart ass, ready for your one punch?!"

So I was thinking about when the JSA returns do you think anything from Earth2 will be carried over ? Will they be portrayed as older again? Jays appearance in the Button crossover he looked older but not as old as he was in preflashpoint. Also when Alan Scott comes back do you think him being gay will cross back over with him or will he the original version from pre flashpoint ?

Gary Frank is spectacular! I can not wait for this book!

Side step: I have to say that I am surprised that Geoff hasn't taken over Wonder Woman yet.

Really curious to see what comes out of this whole Dark Days/Metal thing. It doesn't really look like it ties very strongly into the overall arc of the Rebirth line as we've seen it thus far, so what we know about it right now seems a little murky to me.

Oh myyyyy...

The cover for Detective Comics is particularly interesting, as the image is an homage to George Perez's cover to Batman #441, the middle chapter to "A Lonely Place of Dying," the story arc in which Drake was introduced as the third Robin.

The upcoming Detective story is titled "A Lonely Place of Living," and sees Drake trying to decide between escaping Mr. Oz's prison or staying behind -- a decision made harder by a surprising revelation that fans will have to wait to fully grasp the gravity of.
[blackout]Conner/Bart/Cassie[/blackout]??? Please?

Am I the only one who finds the Multiverse annoying?

I just wanna sit back, relax and enjoy great storytelling featuring the characters I love. I could really do without alternative versions of the characters jumping in and out of a multiverse. It gets confusing.

Bruce Wayne's parents are dead. I really don't need Thomas Wayne (as vigilante) jumping in from another dimension. Grant Morrison's multiverse-centric stories were a fun a mind****, but they should've left the concept alone after that.

Call me old-fashioned, but I really love how straight-forward the DC Universe was post-1986, and would focus on telling great and fun stories about these characters.

P.S.: Am I the only one who misses the long-haired, bearded badass Aquaman?

Yeah, well. That was an interesting and insightful conversation, and perfectly sums up the opinion of millions of readers worldwide.

Thanks for providing the opinion of everyone else.

It's nice to see how far critical discussion has gone in the last few years on these forums.

Duh! :o

I'm reeeeaaalllyy hoping so. It would even supply an excuse for why Tim would feel complete, editors on stay and rescue the others if they get a Wally West-esque Shock upon seeing each other and have their histories fixed. My personal wish is they have them escape, avoid being hunted by Doctor Who "Silents" powered minions of Oz, and to maintain a low cover, they have to form a covert strike force called... The Team. And bada Bing bam boom, Young Justice *****es!

My feelings on the multiverse are a little complicated. I don't particularly care for the idea of worlds with mostly different casts of characters under the same IP masks, but not enough to throw a fit; I can see why my buddy likes the idea, even if I ten to think that there is an inherent superiority to having all your characters active in the same world. I'm really just more apathetic to "Earth 2! Earth 3!" Etc.

But I do like the idea of Hypertime as a bit more of a classic "alternate timeline" gimmick, especially in the way Hypertime crossovers can muck around with the status quo. I loved Black Zero from Superboy and Dark Flash from Flash, and both of those were good "what could have been" ideas, and when they had Dark Flash discover that his presence can change the current timeline to reflect his own? That's a good hook for future stories!

Don't worry, you'll be getting that next issue!

When are they going to give Mera a solo title? It seems like a no brainer.

Thoughts on Dark Days: The Forge?

I really dug it. Very interested to see where this goes.

So with Rebirth in full swing, is it worth it to try and get into Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman?
