Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 News and Discussion - Part 1

Hoping now for a Deadpool 2 Christmas related ad or maybe a card. Heck, we got the Thanksgiving photo poster. Maybe seasons greetings from Cable. Do a send-up of Terminator meets Jingle All the Way, just to play up the Schwarzenegger comparison.

But that's why I'm not in marketing. It's probably not a good idea.

Deadpool in a Santa hat stuck in a chimney. :p

I did some digging into estimated numbers for net profit. Is there really any way that Disney reboots Deadpool if Deadpool 2 has a similar box office to the first movie? Cuz I'm thinking they won't. The MCU's biggest hit was Iron Man 3 with an estimated net profit of $391 million. Age of Ultron follows at $382 million and Avengers with 'below $370 million'.

Yes the box office number is way bigger, but there is a lot to take into account here. Deadpool comes in at $322 million, essentially beating all but three movies in the MCU. Let that sink in for a moment. That makes Deadpool more valuable than pretty much anything in the MCU. In comparison Civil War only brought in an estimated $193 million despite the $1,153,304,495 worldwide number.

There is no way in hell Marvel would do anything that could hurt the Deadpool brand.

I think what's probable- to keep the merger discussion brief- is that the X-projects may carry on as is, especially if they're profitable and received well, which may be the case again with Deadpool. Not only would Disney or Marvel Studios be insane to try and mess with that, but imagine the temporary backlash it would garner.

Sure, hardcore folks would argue that it meant getting Deadpool in the MCU, but the first film showed that there's a formula at play here, whether with how Reynolds has portrayed the character and especially with how the films have been marketed. Disney or Marvel Studios could look at that, and this applies to other X-projects, and just say that Fox can carry on as is. Maybe provide input when they'd like to, but to fundamentally change the brand? I don't see that happening.

Some would prefer that, sure, for the sake of putting all the Marvel characters in one basket, though.

Yeah, I really don't want to derail the thread with merger stuff, but I think we can agree there that the backlash and the possible loss of profit would be huge. Not sure if that'll carry over to other properties, but it'll sure be interesting to see what'll happen. Here's hoping Deadpool 2 does just as well though, and generally delivers another entertaining movie. We should see a bit more of the movie soon as well, which is good. That gif of NTW isn't going to keep me satisfied forever! :woot:

Edit: This is beautiful

With the movie pretty much done, though, I'm curious what a post-credits scene would be.

Maybe something that sets up X-Force?

Yeah an X-Force set-up seems likely. Initially, they said some stuff about Deadpool 3 being the X-Force set-up, but that was apparently taken out of context. I'd wager some set-up throughout this movie and the post credit scene and then X-Force would be next followed by Deadpool 3.

My dream is still that Cable swings to the past and picks up Psylocke for X-Force, though that's partially because I think she'd be a good fit there and Olivia Munn has talked about wanting that as well. Plus, she already had that fake sword fight with Ryan Reynolds.

Of course, the teaser could always be Wade saying that he WOULD introduce the X-Force teaser, but like last time, no money in the budget.

I would like the Fox studio to continue as a subsidiary for films like this. I'd miss the lion roaring before films, especially the old Star Wars films. It was part of the experience.

X-Force with Cable, Domino, Munnlocke and others would be so good to see.

I mean, we got a taste of it. Now just bring it to life. Maybe she cuts off a part or parts of Wade. Also, yeah, while R may not be Disney's thing, with the buttload of money that Deadpool has pulled in alone, they could easily look at Fox and say 'Yeah, you guys go ahead and do your thing.' Same thing if stuff like New Mutants and Gambit do well. Even X-23 once Mangold is done with his upcoming Patty Hearst project.

There is only one option for a post credit scene.

Deadpool and Cable in speedos applying suntan lotion to each other.

That would be awesome. So ready for an R-rated darker team up movie like X-Force, so much potential.

To bring it down would be stupid. :( They would lose money.

Deadpool I think is safe. I am betting he ends up being adopted into the MCU. Wouldn't be hard to, really.
