They're morons for sitting on this as long as they did. My theater was as packed as I've ever seen it so I know they're going to be pleased after this weekend.

I think 2016 is a perfect time for a Deadpool film not 2010 IMO.

Just saw it yesterday. No way it makes $60 million as the pundits are predicting. $98 million will be the number. It could even break $100+. Just like 2008's Iron Man, it's going to take the box office by surprise.

I agree. Superhero saturation is at it's highest point right now... perfect time for Deadpool to come in a set the whole thing on fire.

Make that 3, I think if this had been released in 2011 or 12 it wouldn't have had the same impact and would have just been lost in the shuffle. Now is the perfect time to release it in my eyes.

I think Reynolds has grown as an actor and become more humble after the disaster that was Green Lantern. That film pretty much killed his rise to stardom before it really got going. So he started making smaller indie films where he could stretch his actual acting abilities.

From what i've read and heard Deadpool acknowledges Reynolds' iffy career hilariously... that couldn't have happened without Reynolds' being a humble and down to Earth kinda guy.

Dude has never been not humble. He's always made smaller indie movies even before Green Lantern.

In an interview he said that when he was offered Green Lantern, he went to the head of FOX and told him about it, saying that he would rather play Deadpool instead and asking him if there was any possibility that they would make it. He said no. So he took the other role.

And as for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he was pretty much blackmailed into playing the role as it was, otherwise they would've signed someone else.

It's just that at one point 'the Internet' started trashing him, ignoring his talent and his good performances. And comic book geeks played a huge part in that. The man got so much hate on these kinds of boards, it's incredibe. As if it was his fault that Blade: Trinity (he still was the best part of it), X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Green Lantern weren't good movies.

Well said! I could not agree more.

The hate he got was ridiculous. Yes, he has made a lot of poor movie choices, especially when it comes to blockbuster films, but he's almost always been the best part of those films. It's never his acting that ruins these films, it's everything else.

How many current star actors could turn in a performance like he did in "Buried" where the only physical actor in the entire length of the film is him? He's always been a great actor, his name just got dragged in the mud with his silly blockbuster movie choices.

Yea you're right JKR. I know he's always been humble, and the hate he has received has always baffled me too. He's a solid dramatic actor and he always comes across as a good guy in interviews etc.

But what i meant was his "fall" if you wanna call it that, allowed him to have a more "**** the system" attitude and he could be more self deprecating about his career. Basically, he had nothing to lose so why not go all out with a passion project?

The director said that there was take of Reynolds going on a large rant about Green Lantern. I hope it makes it onto the blu ray.

It's kind of how the writers of the comics liked writing Deadpool because they could vent against the comic book "system" and make fun of all the tropes of the superhero genre.

Here Reynolds and co get to vent a bit and give the bird to the Hollywood "system". Especially against the previous Fox regime.

Deadpool set the record for an R-rated Thursday preview and February preview last night with an evening gross of $12.7M at 2,975 theaters. In the record books that beats the $8.6M made by last year’s Fifty Shades of Grey, which was the previous February preview champ.

Word. :D

Spectacular performance there. With an audience score at 95% on RT don't be surprised if it tops $100 million for the four-day. Could conceivably even do it in three.

Still trying to understand how box office tracking works..It made 12 million on Thursday and many sites are reporting 55 to 65 million opening weekend. That seems awfully low... 50 Shades made less in Previews and made a ton more..

Those predictions were made before the current numbers were in though. Plus a lot of times those kind of predictions are either too high or too low.

You never know how front-loaded a movie will be. But Deadpool hitting $25m WW thanks to just the first day in about five countries and the US previews is a great start!

I think Deadpool will make 100 million opening weekend, easily.

I really want it to, but I am still a bit scared of numbers like that. That would make it the highest r-rated opening weekend ever.

$100 million over the four-day weekend is looking much more likely than not. By way of comparison GOTG did $11.2 million Thursday night on its way to a $37.8 million OD and $93 million FSS. It then pulled in another $11.7 million Monday (August 4). With the Monday holiday (and Friday being a holiday for some schools as well) and Valentine's Day on Sunday...yeah, if I had to bet I'd take the over on $100 million.

I await the video of Deadpool rolling in the money.

I hope so. Fox can use a boost after the FF fiasco. The numbers will be helped by the Monday holiday. Still anything around 100M for 3 days is frelling killer. I will never understand why studios refuse to see that people actually "LIKE" some variety. Sure, we like our comfort zones, but when something new and different comes out, people flock. I like Ryan and hope things go well for him.

I'm going Monday. I have a way too expensive brunch to go to on Sunday. Oh well, I shouldn't complain. At least I have a wife who also likes movies.

Speaks highly to the comic book movie genre (as well as the work of Reynolds & Crew) that Deadpool is setting new records for R-rated movies. This will open more doors.

I can totally see it eclipsing $100 in just the 3-day portion of the weekend, and ending close to $120 after the 4-day comes to an end.

I hope it does well im seeing it in a couple of hours :). Comicbook movies are looking to kill it this year.
