Or parents could tell their brats no instead of blaming the big bad movie industry for not taking care of their kids.

Oh, and movie ratings are often weird and arbitrary. Parents should be mindful of what the kids they popped out are watching regardless of the rating. The first Evangelion Rebuild movie got a PG-13, and it has a naked animated teenage girl getting accidentally groped, violence, and some awkward mommy issue stuff. The movie theater is not your babysitter.

Kids wanna see the movie, Adults wanna see an R rated, everyone wants something, why is one wrong to want while the other isn't

Wait, the PG-13 Die Hard is the PRO argument?! I saw the PG-13 Die Hard. It sucked.

I was being ironic. It wasn't a pro-PG-13 argument.

We ain't in the 80s and 90s anymore, the movie didn't need to be an R and if it wasn't an R people would have made a fuss also so its not that much different with kids wanting to see this movie but can't because they are too young

its 2 sides of the same coin here and one was always going to lose

Oh yeah, we're so modern, incredibly smart and PC now. Not like those animals in the 1980s and '90s.

It's R. It's the most appropriate take for the character and material.

And what's your problem anyway? Are you afraid you won't be allowed to watch the movie?

I'm gonna take my little brother to watch it. He's 12. You know why? Because I know he can stomach it. Otherwise I wouldn't have taken him.

'Cause the filmmakers' vision was that of an R-rated action comedy. It's as simple as that, and all there is to the argument.

The movie literally can't have both ratings. There are MPAA rules that state as much (it can't be in theaters at the same time with both ratings, to be specific). Not all art is created for all audiences, and that is a good thing. Freedom of speech is arguably our most important right. The movie can't be geared to every individual, and it's entitlement that makes you or anyone else think otherwise.

I'm 30, just not ignorant

Do your theaters work differently or are you gonna sneak your 12 year old brother into an R rated movie?

I live in Italy and even if it'll get a '14' rating, he'll be allowed if accompanied by an adult.

So by being happy that Deadpool is an R-rated film, I'm ignorant? Go figure.

italy's sesame street must be interesting to watch

Depends if you are arguing that people should just accept something and not complain which seems like what people are saying then same could go if Deadpool was a PG13 since people would complain then but would that be different or would be the same and they would be whiny brats?

no one is wrong for wanting something

Yeah, boobs, blood squibs and coarse language. You do have a weird worldview, man. You really think the Sesame Street would change based on that?

Anyone under 18 can see an R rated film so long as they're accompanied by an adult.

If you didn't get that it was a joke then we are done here

is that right? i am from UK so i assumed an R was the same thing as an 18 rating

the 12A rating was introduced in 2002 but there is no 18A here so i don't think that counts for us

By the way, it's the same in the US, as well...

Straight from the MPAA website:

"Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardians"

;)

Oh yea, I took it so seriously. If you make a joke, you gotta expect to receive some ironic remark as an answer. :P

... You do realize different countries have different standards, right? In Japan, for example, Naruto is a very popular series read by plenty of children. There's images of twelve year olds getting stabbed with daggers relatively often early on, and the main character sometimes transforms into a barely covered nude woman.

In the US NC-17 is the rating that doesn't allow anyone under the age of 17. Very few american films get that and would rather have an "unrated" attached.

It's very rare for anything mainstream to get NC-17 here, too. R's not really that prohibitive. If a parent really wants to take their kid to Deadpool it's on them. Every R rated film I've seen in theaters had a child in attendance (though admittedly I don't often go to the theater).

Here's what I don't quite understand, the director and the lead actor wanted the fllm to be R and studio agreed, so why is this petition deemed a worthy cause by individuals such as Grace Randolph? Is it any more necessary for this film to be rated PG-13 than it is R? I wouldn't have had an issue with Deadpool being PG-13 but the people behind the film wanted R and the vast majority of fans wanted R. Fox budgeted this film in such a way to compensate for the hit an R rating might cause so why should they listen to this petition?

Why does this particular superhero property need to be accessible to a child? Really what this comes down to is a mother who wants a version of Deadpool her son can watch because she feels he can't handle an R rated film. That's her choice and if she feels that way then she shouldn't take her son to see it. There are several PG-13 superhero films he can see this year.

Why do people make petitions for anything movie related, its to have their voice heard even though studios don't listen but doesn't stop them.

I personally think it's just for getting herself attention. She has to be aware that editing choice can't be made this late in the game, or that they can't even release two versions theatrically.

True, petitions like this are generally a waste time.

There are lots of seven year olds that love The Avengers. They say a very not nice word for, er, lady parts in that movie. There's also PG-13 level violence. Where's the petition for the G rated Avengers film?

Everyone has a right to say how they feel as to the rating and you will not please everyone but now seems so late in the game with less than a month to release. As the China situation shows, making changes now is not possible due to plot issues.

Maybe they should have voiced their concerns/petitioned when the film was announced not three weeks before it hits cinema's.

Seems a bit of a mute point now.

Anything Marvel automatically is wanted by the brats.

The original script leaked years ago. While there have been some changes, the bones of that script are still there. Some of the trailer footage is right out of a script you can Google in two seconds (the cab scene is in it, with much of the same dialogue). These bozos could have been protesting years ago after hearing that face sitting is explicitly mentioned.

Why can't people just accept that this is a different kind of movie, and not aimed at young children? It's that easy. Not everyone from 1 to 99 has to see this.

They're not getting the soundtrack out until weeks after release? That's weird. They often come out ahead of the film. It's been years since I bought one (and it was, uh... Dragonball Evolution...), but I had the CD before the film came out.
