Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 3

A PG-13 cut would be about as long as an episode of How I Met Your Mother without the commercials.

Did people really start a petition for a PG-13 Deadpool?

It got started with some stupid mother that thought her young child was entitled to see the movie.

If anything it seems like there was no approval process, since Miller is so adamant about it NOT being a helicarrier. :funny:

He's definitely trying to cover himself, from a legal standpoint...

Also, this interview with Miller took place last spring (during filming) months before Fantastic Four was released.

Miller directed the Thor 2 opening battle sequence so I'm sure he has had plenty of discussions with both studios on where the line is. Especially since he was hired for Deadpool before he worked at Marvel Studios on Thor.

Is there any information out on when tickets are going on sale?

Actually, it got started by a pretty annoying YouTube bimbo who took advantage of that mother's and her 8 year old child's story and used it to push her agenda and petition for a PG-13 cut of the movie.

Co-writer Rhett Reese weighs in on the PG-13 petition:

I'll simultaneously cry and laugh my butt off if this movie under performs at the box office because of the R rating. I'd cry because this is FOX most faithful adaption of an X-Men property to date and a if this movie flops or under performs at the box office, then the suits will use that as an excuse to justify not being faithful to the source material. I'll laugh my butt off because of the pure arrogance and selfishness of the filmmakers and those fans who wrongly insist that this movie has to be R rated in order to get it's point across and/or to be faithful to the character. In fairness to Reese, he did understand and sympathize with those tweens who would like to see this movie.

That all being said, I think that based on the lower then usual budget for an X-Men film, the excellent marketing campaign, and the fact that this movie actually looks really good I think will result in this movie doing well at the box office.

As oppose to all of those stupid selfish adult fans who think that they are entitled to an R rated movie starring a character that was originally created for and aimed at all ages for most his existence.

Could you be any more sexist and insulting? I find it very telling about your maturity and the maturity of those online fans who insult Grace by calling her a "bimbo" simply because she asks for a PG-13 cut of the movie. Clearly those of you who were hoping for and salivating at the idea of an R rated DP movie aren't all that mature.

Yeah.

As the petition sounds so weird... there's no need for posts like this:

It got started with some stupid mother that thought her young child was entitled to see the movie.

Wow, people actually defending censorship. The lady was an entitled weirdo and lots of people have weighed in on it. It's not Hollywood's job to parent somebody's kid.

its hollywoods job to make money so if they had done it PG13 then people would be making petitions for an R rating but would they be weirdos then?

unfortunately there will be kids who want to see this movie so the idea that parents would do this isn't that odd, its just odd for people who only see blood, sex and f***

I could try. But that was my opinion of her even before the petition. Doesn't have anything to do with the petition. And how exactly is that sexist? I would've found her annoying even if she would've been a man. I know my level of maturity. That's all that matters. I don't have anything to prove to you. ;)

Except Deadpool, pretty much like The Punisher, ain't really a character for kids. He's a scarred, disturbed merc, for God's sakes. And he sure ain't a role model. I'm pretty sure kids were interested in RoboCop and Terminator 2 back in the 1980s and 1990s. Doesn't mean they should have been released as PG-13.

P.S.: I don't know why this really is a discussion. It's R. That's the filmmakers' vision. And for once the studio embraced that. Thank God. End of story.

P.P.S.: Just because people are happy about the R-rating doesn't mean that they only care about the blood, violence, sex and crude language. That's really all you see in great movies such as Die Hard? Really?

Let's force Hollywood to do a PG version of Deepthroat. Kids should be able to watch it.

Its fair to say they could have made Deadpool with a PG13 rating, it wouldn't have pleased alot of people who would then have made petitions but they could certainly have done it

The idea that deadpool couldn't be done with a PG13 rating isn't the case at all

Yeah. I'm extremely stoked they rated it R. Couldn't be happier about that and I think it will benefit, but a PG-13 wasn't impossible. I read Deadpool and X-Force as a kid as I'm sure many did. My parents had more of an issue with me reading Spawn or Frank Miller stuff. Deadpool books didn't get crazy violent and foul mouthed till the 00's. Wolverine has just as messed up material as Deadpool if not more. Kids love the Joker and Harley as well who have far less redeemable hero qualities then Deapdool.

It's just odd that this petition wasn't started earlier when the R rating was announced instead of weeks before the release. She's gonna get an edited cable version regardless. You don't need a petition for an edited version, and one that would be released alongside the R in theaters is just impossible.

Yeah, they did do a PG-13 Die Hard movie, after all. If you really want to bring his uniqueness to the big screen, you need to go a little harder. Even just for the fact that his action isn't based on superheroics, but on classic sword- and gunplay, like in old school action flicks.

Still, much of the action and violence as depicted even in the Joe Kelly run would've had to be toned down in a PG-13 version.

I think thats what happens when fox releases a PG13 trailer and markets it so well that kids under 18 likely notice it

It's not that they released a PG-13 trailer. It's that the trailer need to be approved for all audiences if they want it to be shown in theaters. EVERY. SINGLE. MOVIE. has a green band trailer.

Now we're blaming the movie for marketing it well and kids being interested in it? LOL. Still doesn't mean it should've been PG-13. Like I've said, that wasn't a problem in the 1980s and 1990s, when kids wanted to see action movies. Some kids would be ready for them and would watch them with their parents, others weren't. So what? That's life.

It's the parents' job. Not the studio's. And none of our business really. This shouldn't have been a thing.

The appeal was gonna be there just like when kids wanted to see the Matrix, Robocop, Predator, Aliens, Blade etc. These movies look cool and fun.

Plus Deadpool has Ultaimte Spidey. Hulk vs, kid friendly looking merchandise, Marvel Vs Capcom, Lego Marvel etc. There was no way kids were not gonna be interested in a funny marvel character who looks like Spidey crossed with Snake eyes that they have already had marketd to them. His prior fanbase already consists of kids.

Wait, the PG-13 Die Hard is the PRO argument?! I saw the PG-13 Die Hard. It sucked.

We ain't in the 80s and 90s anymore, the movie didn't need to be an R and if it wasn't an R people would have made a fuss also so its not that much different with kids wanting to see this movie but can't because they are too young

its 2 sides of the same coin here and one was always going to lose

Or parents could tell their brats no instead of blaming the big bad movie industry for not taking care of their kids.

Oh, and movie ratings are often weird and arbitrary. Parents should be mindful of what the kids they popped out are watching regardless of the rating. The first Evangelion Rebuild movie got a PG-13, and it has a naked animated teenage girl getting accidentally groped, violence, and some awkward mommy issue stuff. The movie theater is not your babysitter.

Most will be telling their kids no, or not giving a **** and still taking them. It's R not NC-17. I don't think this will be a big issue as it just now came up weeks before release.

If tons of parents were really having an issue they would have been complaining right when the rating was announced.
