Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 3

They're not getting the soundtrack out until weeks after release? That's weird. They often come out ahead of the film. It's been years since I bought one (and it was, uh... Dragonball Evolution...), but I had the CD before the film came out.

Sometimes they get released afterwards. That's happend several times (for example with X-Men: Days of Future Past).

It's happened, sure, but the marketing department usually wants this stuff on shelves a bit sooner than later. We have to get the soundtrack ahead of time so we can complain about all of the soundtrack spoilers. It's tradition! We must know about Negasonic Teenage Warhead's Noble End, damnit!

That's right. I'm dropping 1999 references.

So China gets denied?

Pretty much. I am a bit curious about what the censors didn't like.

Probably just too violent is all. I'm looking at a list of films that were banned in China over the decades. A Jackie Chan film in 2009 was Banned, and the reason was simply too violent. They also banned Back to the Future, because it depicted Time Travel. The Chinese can be a weird bunch.

DEADPOOL unable to pass Chinese censors due to intense violence, sex scenes, and language; won't be imported.

I'm surprised China would care about the language so much. The other two I can see, though.

The "language" they found objectionable could have been all the sexual language. I'm pretty sure there's a fair bit of that.

Lots of movies did perfectly fine without a China release, ie. Mad Max Fury Road. The studio and makers probably knew what they were in for. I don't think they are exactly surprised.

And Fury Road had a budget of 150 Million. Deadpool's budget is a 3rd of that.

It hurts the number, but not as much as you may think. Studios keep a notoriously small amount of the money from that Chinese box office. You also have to consider that this is R rated material and likely won't bring in the numbers of the big PG-13 blockbusters anyway. Hollywood Studios are only allowed to release so many films per year in China. This might actually free up a spot for a movie that would bring in more revenue in the first place.

HAHAHA..brilliant!

as for the mom petitioning a PG-13 movie so her kid can watch it, is she really that dense? even though it's R rated her kid can still watch it as long as she takes him. you know, the whole accompanying adult thing? guess her lazy ass doesn't want to do explain all the violence & dirty jokes to her kid

yeah, f*** china
the BO numbers there are basically just used to inflate the Worldwide Gross, since the studios get very little money from the territory

A few big movies have even had trouble getting their money from China at all. Check's in the mail, as it were...

Should be getting some reviews soon...

A fan event for Deadpool promised some "first look footage" - they just didn't tell people it would be two hours of it.

The entire movie was shown at the special fan events on both costs, in New York and Los Angeles. At the New York screening, Ryan Reynolds showed up to introduce the movie.

At the Los Angeles screening, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, TJ Miller (Weasel), director Tim Miller, screenwriters Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick, and Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) were in attendance.

What the sh**. Never would I have expected them to preview the movie like this. This is awesome!

Damn, I almost went to that...

Won't there be an embargo for another few weeks?

I doubt fans will get an embargo not to post impressions on social media. The studio screening it this early to fans is a good sign. Seems like everyone's very confident about Deadpool.
