Deadpool Deadpool News and Discussion - Part 3

I could try. But that was my opinion of her even before the petition. Doesn't have anything to do with the petition. And how exactly is that sexist? I would've found her annoying even if she would've been a man. I know my level of maturity. That's all that matters. I don't have anything to prove to you. ;)

I don't have a problem with you finding her annoying or disagreeing with her. I have a problem with you calling her a "bimbo" simply because you disagree with her. Calling her a "bimbo" is both sexist and disrespectful since she was NOT acting like a "bimbo" in that video (or any other video that she put up).

Except Deadpool, pretty much like The Punisher, ain't really a character for kids. He's a scarred, disturbed merc, for God's sakes. And he sure ain't a role model. I'm pretty sure kids were interested in RoboCop and Terminator 2 back in the 1980s and 1990s. Doesn't mean they should have been released as PG-13.

Both DP and Punisher were originally created for and aimed at ALL AGES for many years. Both ROBOCOP and TERMINATOR were NOT originally created for and/or aimed at all ages.

P.S.: I don't know why this really is a discussion. It's R. That's the filmmakers' vision. And for once the studio embraced that. Thank God. End of story.

Because the character was for many years an all ages character, and over the last 15 years, a PG-13 character.

P.P.S.: Just because people are happy about the R-rating doesn't mean that they only care about the blood, violence, sex and crude language. That's really all you see in great movies such as Die Hard? Really?

What else do you think the R rating is for? If those people who wanted an R rating didn't only care about the blood, sex, violence, and crude language, then why the hell (a) were they asking for this movie to be rated R and (b) are they having a fit over this petition for an additional PG-13 cut?

- I do think she acts like a bimbo in videos
- Movie ratings don't necessary equal the comics, even in the Joe Kelly stuff, there's lots of stuff and sequences that would've had to be toned down in order to get a PG-13 rating (esp. regarding the action and violence)
- People who were asking for an R-rating do NOT only care about violence, sex and crude language. They still expect a good story, direction and overall quality, with the addition that the filmmakers don't have to tone down harsher elements this time around in order to pander to the kids
- That's the last time I'm discussing this, 't'was nice!

In a world that became oversaturated with superhero movies, I can honestly say that this is probably among the few movies that I'm really excited to see! I like the cast, I like the fact that they had the ballz to make it R rated (simply because it gives you more freedom and Deadpool is a character that can't be toned down to PG) and of course, I like the fact that everyone involved in the production, including Ryan, pushed for this to happen, because Deadpool is such a unique character! I really hope this won't turn out to be a disappointment, because it really looks promising!

Good to hear a positive start from those that have seen some of the movie, although still early days and we are all too clever to get over hyped because of that, we are far too wise for that round these parts.:cwink:

Still its better than the alternative so looking forward to proper reviews soon.

The movie literally can't have both ratings. There are MPAA rules that state as much (it can't be in theaters at the same time with both ratings, to be specific).

True, which is why I think that they should release a PG-13 version later this year (like in the summer) with reshoots, reedits, and several brand new scenes created specifically for the PG-13 version. And to make the movie even funnier they could have DP (who is always breaking the 4th wall) take notice of and make fun of the PG-13 cut. This way the movie (a) can get the younger audience to check it out (b) get the older audience who saw the R rated version to check out the new PG-13 version for the new scenes and (c) can be shown in China. Of course, this most likely won't happen (and most likely couldn't be done.

Not all art is created for all audiences, and that is a good thing. Freedom of speech is arguably our most important right. The movie can't be geared to every individual, and it's entitlement that makes you or anyone else think otherwise.

I agree. The ratings system is an unreliable, inconsistent, and often inaccurate joke.

Why can't people just accept that this is a different kind of movie, and not aimed at young children? It's that easy. Not everyone from 1 to 99 has to see this.

It's all fine and dandy until a movie either flops or under performs at the box office. Not that I think this movie will flop or under perform at the box office.

I wanted this film to be R. Not because I am a pervy bloodthirsty savage, but because I enjoy movies that take place in a more realistic world with characters that behave and react in a more realistic manner.

Comics and film are two different mediums.

COMICS allows a level of cheesiness in its sequential art format. You know the floppy thing you're holding in your hands (not that thing you pervy blodthirsty savages) isn't reality. It's a bunch of still-frame images on a page. Curse words can be forgivably bleeped and dialogue can be clunky and unrealistic here or there and have little effect on the reader.

FILM has the potential to fool the mind and suck you into the story in a more immersive way. The more realistic things are, the easier it is to suspend disbelief. The moment a cheesy or clunky line is spoken, that magical bubble is popped and the movie has to lure you back in. If it can.

From day one I wanted a Deadpool movie set in present day reality with the main anomaly in the story being Wade Wilson. And if you mean to tell me that if a character that deranged and beaten by life were walking around in our world, he wouldn't be dropping some serious curse words or doing highly inappropriate things in his lonely spare time, you're crazier than Deadpool.

I still one day hope to see a more art house film with a comic character smack-dab in the center. Hoped we'd get something like that with Aronofsky's Wolverine, but that never came together. And I know Deadpool won't be like that, but this is a step in the right direction.

Off-topic, but in the latest episode of Fatman on Batman, Kevin Smith revealed that Tim Miller directed this TV spot from Arkham Origins. How cool is that? Small world.

Tim Miller also directed the prologue scene for Thor: The Dark World.

Yeah and that awesome intro for Fincher's Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I want him to do a rad/heavily stylized James Bond type intro with Deadpool for the sequel, maybe with Dazzler involved and reacting Deadpool covers or something.

Him and his company Blur have done just a ton of cool work from video games through the years.

Loving the great early reviews. Not getting too excited yet due to them only being twitter reactions but it sounds promising. I am actually really looking forward to this.

Sounds like the infamous leaked footage that got the movie the green light is going to be the re-filmed opening scene.

It's not that they released a PG-13 trailer. It's that the trailer need to be approved for all audiences if they want it to be shown in theaters. EVERY. SINGLE. MOVIE. has a green band trailer.

Now we're blaming the movie for marketing it well and kids being interested in it? LOL. Still doesn't mean it should've been PG-13. Like I've said, that wasn't a problem in the 1980s and 1990s, when kids wanted to see action movies. Some kids would be ready for them and would watch them with their parents, others weren't. So what? That's life.

It's the parents' job. Not the studio's. And none of our business really. This shouldn't have been a thing.
I agree. If your underage kid is watching p0rn for example, it's your job as a parent to prevent that, it isn't the responsability of the actors nor companies.

While I don't think that the fact that a movie is made to be R or PG can influence it THAT MUCH - let's face it, if it's gonna have a terrible story and bad actors, it's still gonna suck for example - I do believe that the type of rating can add or take away from a movie, especially in the case of stories and characters such as Deadpool, which is why I am glad that it's gonna be an R-type of movie.

How right you are! ;)

I'm almost worried about this movie because the regular trailers are so much worse than the red-band ones. I just hope the GA doesn't get turned off by those trailers like I would've been if I hadn't known what the movie is really like.

While I was waiting for first reactions from the screening to pop up on twitter, people seemed to respond very well to the TV spots on there (and those are green band). I don't think there's much to worry about. Especially if this will get positive word of mouth.

So are Kingsman's box office numbers the goal for DP, or would that be under performing?

Wouldn't be underperforming at all, considering that Deadpool cost approx. $20m less than Kingsman (Ed Skrein said in an interview last summer that the budget for Deadpool was around $60m).

Glad to see those that were able to screen the movie are loving it. Lots of positive reactions coming from that! Good news indeed!

I think this movie is going to do well, the spirit of the character and source material is obviously respected, casting seems solid and it just feels FUN. People saying this will suck because Fant4stic bombed should keep in mind that this was made, represented and comes off completely opposite of that movie in every way. I'm really looking forward to this movie.
